New 2019 Recruiting

  • Blue blood recruiting, maybe sans UNC, is going to be subpar this year. UK looks like they’re going to whiff on some of their main targets, Dook may be done after getting Ellis, and we’re really only chasing Stanley, Hurt, and Nnaji, and guaranteed to get none of them. Weird year.

    Agree.

KU will need to add bodies if they miss on any of these guys (perhaps all three). So it could be that we really don’t even know the names of 3-4 guys that will be on the team next year. Unless of course we have some surprise returns, which I wouldn’t complain one bit about. Going to be verrrrry interesting.

I’ve never considered KU the favorite for Stanley, and we agree that it would be a big surprise if he were to pick KU, so we’ll look in the spring for another guard. I still think we get at least one of Nnaji and Hurt. Still a chance we have one of Silvio, Dedric, or Doke. One of each group and we’re cooking with gas. Add KJ, Mitch, McCormack and that’s a really good frontline. Dotson, Garrett, Moore, and Ochai are good enough at guard. Whatever we can get from McBride and Braun is a bonus.

  • Yeah I’m not terribly worried about next year’s team. Should be solid.

  • Ok , so I’ve been doing some Thunking - - I do that every now and then. So again I was thunking about how we have been doing or losing out some this season Soooo , he is what I was Thunking lol

So let’s say IF and this a HUGE If - -BUT if there was some way - -Anyway that Silvio gets cleared and then we could maybe get him to come back for a year next season ( which I really don’t see that but ) – get him to come back - -get KJ to come back having him work really hard during the off Season - -and then Maybe recruit here a little more and maybe pick up Chandler Lawson -I know nothing special but get us that 4 year player - get these 3 guys and then if that played out - wouldn’t be so bad ya think? - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Brian Snow dropped a blurb on Zeke Nnaji today.

Down the home stretch for Nnaji While the recruitment of four-star power forward Zeke Nnaji is coming to an end soon, there remains a lot of mystery surrounding where he will end up playing his college basketball.

Nnaji will make an unofficial visit to North Carolina this weekend, and from there he has a commitment date set for November 23. Because of the timing of this announcement, this means that Nnaji will not be signing during the early signing period. He will wait until the spring to put pen to paper.

This late visit to North Carolina means that the Tar Heels are definitely a major factor. Though North Carolina hasn’t been involved with Nnaji for too long, they were able to get him to make the trip, and also he is doing it on his own dime since he is out of official visits for the year.

Along with the Tar Heels, the main contenders appear to be Arizona and Kansas, though Purdue and UCLA are on the periphery, and do get a little bit of buzz. At least currently Baylor isn’t getting much talk as a serious threat to land his commitment.

Kansas was always kind of the dream school for Nnaji, but the other programs involved have definitely made this a battle. Nnaji still is fond of the Jayhawks, but this is far from a layup for Bill Self and his staff.

Upon returning from North Carolina this weekend, look for Nnaji and his father to really get down to business figuring out what the college decision will be.

A direct and fast path to professional basketball has long been the number one determining factor for Nnaji, and it will be interesting to see which school he feels offers the best opportunity in that regard.

  • Rivals jumps in on Zeke.

    1. How should the schools that make up Zeke Nnaji’s final five - Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, Purdue and UCLA - be feeling now that North Carolina was able to get in for an in home visit and secure an unofficial visit after he took all of his official visits?

Bossi: There’s no doubt in my mind that the original five finalists are concerned. In fact I bet many are feeling something much stronger than concern. But, this is big-time recruiting and these are the types of things that you have to deal with because a program like North Carolina is one of the few with the brand to jump in late like this. If I’m at any of those other programs, I’m making sure to hammer away at relationships that have been established over time.

Evans: A bit of worry and rightfully so. Nnaji was on the precipice of a decision, focused on a group of five and out of nowhere, North Carolina enters the picture at the last minute and not only offers him, but also gets a visit. Better yet, it is an unofficial visit which just shows how serious he has to be about the program that he is willing to go across the nation on his own dime and see what he Tar Heels can offer just days before committing. Now, Nnaji is not a prospect that is going to be wooed by the name of a school, as evidenced by Kentucky not even making his final list.

Do I think that this is a done deal for North Carolina? No, but of course that could change in the days ahead which could force his other finalists to reconfigure their recruiting board and find alternative options this winter.

McDonald: Nnaji visiting North Carolina has to be concerning for the other schools involved. Most coaches get nervous to begin with when a kid visits and doesn’t commit shortly after. Add to that a school like North Carolina coming in and getting an unofficial visit, which obviously means out of his family’s pocket, I can’t imagine the other schools aren’t starting to look at other options at his spot.

  • I’ll have to dig on this guy but maybe one to watch in the spring?

    Tre Mitchell 6’9 PF/C #93 rivals, #83 247

RIVALS’ REACTION With Mitchell announcing he’s going to be signing late, it obviously allows time for schools to come in and sway him from the schools that have put in the time to this point in his recruitment. Right now, it’d be hard to argue against Notre Dame and UConn being called the leaders of the pack. This will be an interesting to track throughout his senior year because it wouldn’t be a big surprise if some new high profile schools come into the picture.

  • Bossi reporting KU/Oregon for Stanley

Checking in at No. 31 overall, the super athletic shooting guard at Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon has completed official visits to Kansas, Oregon and UCLA and is in decision-making mode. Thought for a while had been that UCLA could end up the most likely landing spot. However, over the last week or so more talk about Oregon or Kansas being his destination has popped up. Somehow pulling Stanley off of the West Coast would be a pretty big score for the Jayhawks.

Sunday night, Stanley’s father told me a decision date hasn’t yet been set and that the family has to sit down and make a final decision. Though nothing is set, I would be mildly surprised if Stanley doesn’t announce a decision in the relatively near future.

I don’t think he would have much of an impact. Too bulky, looks like a true center.

I’ll have to look him up and see what he looks like. Was just scanning this and with him signing late maybe someone the staff evaluates if options dry up

  • @BeddieKU23 This is no surprise , as far as committing . – Zeke’s dad has said all along that Zeke would not be signing an LOI in the early commit. - They said that he will give a verbal in the fall and then sign his LOI in the spring - -so not really sure why Brian feels the need to print something we already know - - All he is giving a verbal - - Basically in a verbal he can still back out - -in reality I think he is wanting to wait till spring to OFFICALLY commit and sign an LOI to see out of these programs who is coming back and who is not. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73

His blurb today was to recap his recruitment plus others in the midwest (Hurt, Carey, Brooks, Davis etc) that haven’t committed yet. I was just sharing what’s been printed

  • Crystal ball picks rolling in for Chandler to Georgia Tech.

  • @BShark

Good spot for him, early playing time

  • @BeddieKU23 Yep, probably the only school on his list where that is the case. At KU he might have even been a RS candidate.

  • @BShark

I couldn’t imagine him being anything but a RS at KU. I looked at Georgia Tech’s roster and boy he should walk right into minutes.

  • @BeddieKU23 Exactly. Makes a lot of sense to pick GT. I don’t think Memphis wanted him much tbh.

Whoa. Everyone thought GT. Maybe Oregon made a late pu$h.

  • Oregon set to warmer on 24/7, others at warm. Woo boy.

Edit: Kansas set to “cool” now. Yeah, sounds about right.

  • @BShark $$$.

  • Couple more picks for Oregon. He is announcing tomorrow.

  • @BShark Ya Daniels & Meyers both have picked Oregon. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

In 2016 Mitch was the only early signee.

  • Back to the norm. Not much early activity. A nice bout of hand wringing should ensue… and then somehow it works out.

  • NLI is in for Braun. Not a surprise, but might as well post it.

Yippee - -we didn’t get shut out. - -Na you know I’m just playing.

Red an article of 247 this morning , they were talking about how schools that were list in this FBI thing - -how they have done in the 2019 recruiting . they listed:

    USC is Listed as having the # 1 class for 2019. - — - – - Arizona has the # 3- - - - - - in 2019 - - - - - - - - Louisville # 4 - – - in 2019- - - - - -Auburn # 9- - - - -in 2019 - - - - - - - Oklahoma St - -a top 15 class in 2019 - - - - Miami – - - - -decent class – - - - --in 2019 --& - - - - -North Carolina State - - -with kind of a decent class.

So there shouldn’t be that much difference with us for what? - -would it be our 2020 class? - - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Chandler Lawson to Oregon.

Will be interesting to see about the younger brother - - what is his name ? Jonathan right? Seems like I had heard he might be the best of the group. Wonder how that works out.

Do you think he might follow his brothers? - -or go elsewhere? - -Do we think with we showed very little interest in Chandler might come back and bite us in the ass? - -OR will no have not that much effect if any at all?- -Kind of wonder what daddy Chandler will have to say about the whole thing - - Or will he be the Chandler that stays home and goes to Memphis? - -I hope we hit him hard – - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • NLI also in for McBride.

  • Not an OAD fan, but not a big fan of 100+ guys either. On the other hand, it’s obvious why we’re in this position. So I don’t think anyone will really complain. Hope not.

  • I think 75-150 is usually fairly similar.

  • Mackey will play better then his rank by senior yr

  • Ship has sailed… Any name KU is associated with right now is going elsewhere. In the spring we’ll see who the staff can recruit after we hopefully have a great year.

ARE KANSAS’ CHANCES WITH TOP-10 PLAYER … HURT? Will the mess surrounding Kansas right now eventually prevent them from signing Hurt? And if so, who gets his services, in your opinion? #AskEvan

    — Andrew (@notorious_acv) November 12, 2018 This is a legitimate question. Do I think Kansas is in good shape with Hurt? Yes, I do. Will Kansas coming up in the FBI impact things? Not sure. It’s possible, but only Hurt and his family would know the answer to that. It does seem like it may impact things with Zeke Nnaji, as it’s one factor that his father, Apham, brought up during a recent interview with 247Sports. Kansas and Arizona coming up in the trial is ultimately what I believe lead to Nnaji setting up a late meeting and trip with North Carolina.

  • Updated original post. Both verbal commits signed yesterday.

Removed all High Priority recruits at this time. Realistically KU is done recruiting until the spring. Hopefully a great season can salvage this mess

The fact that Cassius didn’t announce/sign yesterday is good for KU.

Yeah. I’d still be surprised if he signed with KU. Self made it seem like they weren’t expecting anymore.

Is Stanley just going to verbal and not sign during the period?

That’s the hope. If he signs, it’s Oregon.

  • OK . I think that we just have to come to the realization , which I think most have , but we have to just accept that THIS recruiting season has just become a flat out bust.

Now there is some that is not really wanting to think or understand but yet others then me have said this , that is IF you don’t think that this FBI thing hasn’t effected the recruiting for this year , which it has beyond a show of a doubt that it has - -no doubt it has , and that is having a big impact on this years class.

Zeke’s dad has mentioned it , who knows how it has had an impact on others whether they come out publicly or not , Romeo’s dad mentioned it afterwards - - who knows what Hurt and his family are thinking. - -Bottom line is right at this point at the major recruits that we have went after we are batting a BIG FAT ZERO. & I’m tellin people that that this FBI thing has at least played even a small pat in that.

  • @jayballer73

There are a number of top prospects that have not signed and with whom KU has the lead or is a strong contender. Very premature to call the recruiting class a bust when the recruiting season is far from done. It would be the equivalent of calling Villanova and Kentucky busts because of one bad game when the bulk of the season is still ahead. I will wait until all recruiting is done before stating and opinion on how good…or bad…the recruiting class is. That is just me. 😄

  • @JayHawkFanToo Well what I posted was just me. - -find your post interesting. - -Not really sure where you get your information to say it is far from a bust.

Only 13 players out of the top 50 still uncommitted , out of that - - -only 2 that even list KU as a possibility - - that being Hurt- -& Nnaji .

Only 21 uncommitted players left in the top 100- - -so out of the top 100 players listed - -again even out of the top 100 players - - - - and of those 21 uncommitted there is only 2 mentioning KU - -Again Hurt and Nnaji. – So 2 of the top 100 players mentioning interest or receiving any votes to KU - -So just curious what you consider top recruits? - - I mean out of the top 100 - -we have 2, what is your definition of top recruits - -and top recruits that we are leading for? - -just curious - -Then we have Evan Daniels talking about how this FBI things HAS hindered KU’s recruiting , saying IF we could still land Hurt- -IF we could and then land another of our targeted top recruits , we could still a decent year - -don’t hold your breath on HURT - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I was kind of seeing the spring cupboard as somewhat bare.

Hope – we get Matthew Hurt and a helpful grad transfer. We’ll likely lose Dedric, Doke, Grimes, Vick – uh, pretty much our whole starting lineup.

Dotson, Moore, Garrett, Mitch, McCormack. Right?
