Ho Hum, batetradomus 1.0 Called the Tie for the Title during Self's Unprecedented February Tear Down of the Team, but Missed the Outright

  • I still have chances for further prophecies coming true.

I also predicted that Self would expose TTech’s vulnerabilities and lead to some Tech losses.

Voila! WVU promptly beat Tech after KU did. batetradamus 1.0 all-seeing seer of the ancient basketball ways of the heartland!!!

Fingers crossed that we see Tech take some more losses and enter the conference tournament demoralized and ready for more beatings by the Magnificent Seven!!!

    Yeeeeeee Hawwwwww!

    I love this game.

  • It could be that Tech was without many players against WVU…

  • @BShark

Maybe Chris Beard is taking his team in for a rebuild even later than Self did?

    Maybe.

But my hunch is he and the team cracked along the lines of some previously hard to see fault lines that Beard did not work through earlier, when he had the chance.

  • @jaybate-1.0 He just wasn’t going to bother playing injured players after not being able to win the league. When the league title was still in play, you ask them to tough it out, but after that, get rested up for the NCAAT since they are a lock.

  • @BShark

Your last post made me think of a few things.

There are a lot of beat up teams right now in the Big 12, and Kansas isn’t one of them.

But we sure have faced that situation for years. I’m not trying to jinx us for the rest of this year or next… mostly, I’m just thankful. However in this year of our lack of depth we were able to focus broader on issues like “wear and tear” while all other teams in the league were busy just trying to win games.

That streak of 14 has so many factors involved. It’s a lot more than just Kansas getting the best players. We have the benefit of having sat in the driver’s seat for so long that we have been able to advance in other areas that “the field” isn’t even aware of yet.

Had we treated this year without our focus on staying healthy and not being worn down, I’m not so sure we would have won #14!

  • @drgnslayr Jst watched a replay of the Texas game and Devonté came up limping pretty early in the first half. He toughed it out and eventually looked fine. But his scoring was way down. I’d think it would be foolish to say this team isn’t at least as worn down as everyone else. Maybe they are just more used to it.

  • @drgnslayr We’ve been real lucky. Injuries have derailed us several times in the past. I think this team looks much fresher than some of our past teams at this point. The eye test tells me. Plus everyone is having fun, other than vick.

Interesting. Then unless Beard is disciplined, it appears ok for head coaches to skip trying to win irrelevant games like conference tournaments, too?

I hope Self rests the top 8 and plays the remainder of the bench, so KU loses the first round game. I am ok with this team being a 1 or 2 seed in order to be healthy and rested for the Carney.

  • @jaybate-1.0 I’d love to see Self not care about the B12 tournament as well. I’ve never cared about it.

  • @BShark

Any talk of Beard being critiqued or disciplined by B12 for not playing his best guys?

  • @jaybate-1.0 Why would the league care? Plus they are injured.

    The old injury excuse?

    Gives excellent plausible deniability.

    Would Beard use it?

  • @jaybate-1.0

    These injuries are documented.

Gray got knocked out by Doke. I assume you saw that.

Zach Smith missed a bunch of games with a foot injury, he even barely played against KU in the first game in Lawrence.

Evans got hurt against Baylor and clearly wasn’t right when he played us.

  • @BShark

With those kinds of injuries at KU, you play through, right? Heck we have had guys play operable for large portions of a season. Self just says they’re a little nicked up! Beard needs to talk to Bob Knight some more.

That contact with Doke appeared a WSU-WVU-MSU grade love tap on KU that KU has come to accept as incidental contact.

Remember when Perry Ellis went back in the game shortly with his nose still sticking out the back of his head? From a no-call no less!!!

TTech and Beard apparently can dish, but not take, it appears.

Wait till they have to go up against COACH K, when he appears to be in XTREME CHEAP SHOTTING mode during the Carney; I.e, when 3 down!

  • @benshawks08

I’m not saying our guys aren’t getting nicked up. Devonte must surely feel the effects of that TTech game where he took over and went down several times.

I saw him limp for a play or two early on in the Texas game, but players do that all the time. They bang knees or whatever. I was watching Devonte when he was hobbling the worst, and then the ball came to him and he made a ballet-style move, trying to open up a driving lane.

I don’t know… Devonte had a double-double, with 11 assists. He only had 10 points but do we want to count on him to lead in scoring every game?

We had a clear plan to feed Doke. Doke scored 20!

    Devonte is fine.

  • @drgnslayr dg was also holding his left hand.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Yes. He’s been doing that for a few months now. No doubt, he will need some time to heal after the season.

Anyone going as hard as him, and for basically 40 mpg surely has some nicks.

Yeah, I’d like to know what that is about… and even more, I’d like it to go away.
