Sherron

Interesting comments from Coach about Sheron, hell of a player just interesting:
Coach was talking about when Sheron gets his jersey put up Monday: - -Said he thinks he is the best player EVER that they have recruited since Coach has been here. - - -said he could go get his own – set everybody up - - -BBIQ - -was off the charts - -& tougher then everybody.
Now I love Sheron and not trying to dis-count in any way BUT doesn’t that statement sound like somebody else that played here? - -at least for me it does – Did not Frank get his own? - - -Did not Frank set everybody up? - -did not Frank have pretty dam good BBIQ? - -Wasn’t Frank pretty tough?
I know what Coach was saying and I’m not disagreeing and he wasn’t trying to slight anyone I know - I think Frank and Sheron would almost like be comparing Apples to Oranges -you couldn’t go wrong with either one - -just interesting that’s all. - - -ROC CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sherron was that player from basically day 1 at Kansas. Frank took about 2.5 seasons to get to where he was a true game changer on a nightly basis. Sherron is definitely the best 4 year player at Kansas during the Self era.

@jayballer73 I agree with @Texas-Hawk-10. Sherron was pretty salty from the get go and was a big part of NC as a sophomore. Frank didn’t look all that great as a freshman and took plenty of lumps when starting as a sophomore, by the end of Franks junior year he was really good and his senior year I believe to be the best point guard play that KU has ever had. I’d say Sherron was better for 2 and a half or 3 years.

Spot on. Mason through sheer hard work and determination made himself into the best PG in recent memory at KU. Hard to argue with Consensus POY.

Glad Sherron gets a hang.
Will never understand what happened to him in the NBA.

Before his knee and weight problems, Sherron was easily an NBA talent. He was so explosive off the dribble. He was a big play guy from day one, as @Texas-Hawk-10 , @kjayhawks and @JayHawkFanToo said.
From a pure talent perspective, Sherron was better than Mike Conley (went on to be a OAD and an NBA all star), and comparable to Ty Lawson. He should have made it to the NBA, but injuries slowed him down, and he didn’t develop good training/diet habits to help keep his body ready.

I believe than in Sherron’s case it was not just poor habits but he had the type of genes and metabolism that made him gain weight very easily and the excess weight resulted in stress to the joints.
