When going gets tough, the tough get going.

  • Mathew 14 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?".

  • Thank you for this! I just got back in the country from vacation and peeked at the boards and some scores. All this talk of the game today being over in the first few minutes and looking to next year.

Jeez, you’d think we were tied for last place instead of tied for first! Yea, we had some off games but so has everyone else.

To paraphrase Devo - are we not fans, we are KU! (Okay that might be the margaritas talking, but you get the idea, the fat lady ain’t close to singing yet)

  • @StLJhawk we are in 2nd

  • @kjayhawks You mean “when the going gets tough”? I pray every day for Coach Self and the KU Jayhawks to be successful and to remain safe and healthy and injury free. So far it has been 50-50, but going down hill lately, but I will keep on praying and keeping the faith.

  • @Big-Clyde52 haha fixed now

  • @Crimsonorblue22 ah, yes, I missed that 8-3 vs 8-4, my bad. This completely changes things - time to throw in the towel for sure now.

  • @StLJhawk I didn’t mean that

  • @StLJhawk We went from leading, chance to extend, losing, tying, and now 2nd.

Love the glass half empty folks. That crap doesnt work in bball.

Now, we have to hope TT loses two and hopefully KU will win in Lubbock. This was a bad game for KU in Waco, and BU actually played one of, if not best game of their season.

  • @kjayhawks

The coach said this was long term.

After all these years folks still don’t really hear him.

The train is leaving the station.

Malik and Vick are subs until they learn to play the new way.

Vick probably is permanently, because he literally cannot bend his knees on defense. His pop is gone and my hunch is he told Self and that’s the driver for restringing the bow.

Malik probably just missed curfew, or a class, or had too much contact with a teammate’s eye.

Malik will be back, but let’s face it: he’s only listed 6-3 which means he is 6-1 or 6-2 tops; that means he will only rarely be able to rebound.

The new scheme requires feeding the post and rebounding first—driving and shooting second.

In the old scheme, Malik was an ideal starter.

In the new scheme, Malik would have to guard and strip like Mario Chalmers to fit in well.

Vick and Malik will get minutes to rest starters and see if their trey guns are warm. But any dogging it and Mitch and Garrett are back in to glue.

  • @jaybate-1.0 That is an interesting hypothesis about the black eye…might be.

  • @Hawk8086 I high doubt that happened pregame, I highly doubt there’s any proof of such a thing.

  • For what it’s worth:

Svi’s eye “was hit when Garrett swung his hand back after missing a dunk during layup drills”…

  • Reset…OU, WVU, and UT at home respectively. OU looks like a win, but my guess is they will show up to play in the Phog. WVU will not lose easily in the Phog, and UT has been playing fairly well. Mo Bamba will attempt another block party too.

Lubbock, Ames, Stillwater…OK, looks great. I think we can beat TT. I think they will be over confident. ISU will play us well. OSU would love to sweep KU in Stillwater to storm the court.

    Rock Chalk

  • @CRH107 We are all shocked that something inaccurate came out of jaybate.

  • @CRH107 I heard svi say that too, still couldn’t have have been feeling to great.

  • If tech loses tonight we are still in first and even if they don’t they have @Baylor, @OSU and @ WVU. I highly doubt that they finish this season out not losing again in this conference with what would be 9 straight wins. We have OU, TT and WVU again, with us having a game on WVU and 2 on OU and at least 2 on KSU after today. We still will have plenty of say as for what will happen. They guys just need to come together right now, no more selfish play, no more silly Doke fouls and five guys operating as a unit.

  • @kjayhawks I said after the Poke game in Lawrence that TT would go down at least 2-3 times in the next three games. The purple ones will give them a good game.

    TT at BU

    at OSU

    at WVU

OU, KU, and TCU in Lubbock

You tell me how many of these TT will drop. I didn’t say they can’t win either, but the odds of them running the table or winning half of these games are slim. The entire B12 is now in desperation mode.

TT away games are going to be huge and I predict they drop 2, and maybe 3. OSU is riding high and they just beat WVU too, IN MOTOWN.

I think they drop at BU, OSU, and likely WVU.

They beat OU and TCU at home. I think KU will be too hungry to be swept. KU has got to take care of business.

  • We have OU, WVU, and UT. It really depends on how badly they want to win…at home. Svi says they will NOT lose anymore home games.

  • We better hope ksu beats TT. The Ames game is looking really tough for KU.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 sorry, didn’t mean to sound snotty. We all want the same thing here - for the good guys to win. (And the margaritas in the airport on our long layover in Houston today were strong)

  • @StLJhawk not strong enough! Tt looking good!

  • I recorded the game, avoided all contact with friends who would tell me the score, saw some random dude who tells me tough day for Jayhawks. What’s all this talk about black eyes, malik, vick, etc? What the heck happened? I don’t even want to read about the game since ya’ll will tell me the truth.

  • @wissox Both teams played like crap the first 17 minutes or so of the game. Baylor had small lead most of that time. Baylor ends the 1st half on a 7-0 while KU played probably their worst half of the season.

KU comes out in the 2nd half and plays decent. Graham started making some shots and KU cut the lead to 2. Then Lagerald Vick happened. He tipped in a basket for Baylor, then he threw an outlet pass to Graham before Graham ever turned around to look for it. Then a possession or two later, Vick throws one to Graham that’s so inaccurate that Graham got called for a carry trying to corral the pass. After that stretch of 4-5 possessions, Baylor stretched their lead back out and KU never sniffed the lead again.

Basically, KU played about 4-5 minutes of good basketball today. Also, don’t pay any attention to anyone blaming the refs for anything, it didn’t matter. KU couldn’t hit water if they fell out of boat today. They shot under 20% from 3 and took half their shots from 3 today.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 So I should not watch the replay?!! I think I’m not watching the replay.

  • @wissox I wouldn’t waste my time if I were you. I was at the game today and this was probably the worst I’ve ever seen a KU team look.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Wow. Probably the worst I remember was a 30 point beat down at OSU sometime between 97 and 98.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Did you happen to see the warm-ups and injury to Svi’s eye?

  • @CRH107 you think they are lying about it?

  • @Crimsonorblue22

The cameras at the game are running during warmups. It would be silly to lie about something like this since the video is available.

I think you nailed it here. This is February. Most teams are battling something. Perseverence and coming together will win this thing.

  • @JayHawkFanToo yes, I know that!

  • @CRH107 I wasn’t in the arena for warm ups, got there during pregame ceremony stuff. So no, I didn’t notice Svi’s eye.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

If fabricated, it seems that it would be easily refutable by eye witnesses (e.g., players, reporters, John Q. Public) and cameras as @JayHawkFanToo states.

A few have speculated other possible scenarios to further arguments of team discord. I was hoping one of our own could end the speculation with a first-hand account.

  • Sorry… couldn’t resist. Humor is a great tool to even out the bumps.

  • @drgnslayr One of my favorite movie scenes ever. I use the Germans bombing pearl harbor line all of the time.

  • So much for hoping other teams lose. ksu is done and unlike BU they don’t want to play beyond the conference. IF I were a B12 team, like BU, I’d be playing my azz off and fighting to play in post-season play.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I was just confirming what you said.😄

  • @kjayhawks I have been sitting here pondering a couple situations regarding our team since yesterdays game, which I could not finish watching because our play, or lack thereof, made me sick. Spent the last 4 minutes in the bathroom. One is pretty darn good, the other is extremely devastating.

Lets assume that the rumors of dissention on the team are true and that some players have a dislike for each other. A team killer!! We all know that in team sports it takes EVERY member of the team to be pulling on the same rope, at the same time, with the same vigor, to be successful. With that in mind here are the scenarios:

Scenario 1: The dissention and dislike continues among team members and becomes a total disruption of team unity. We finish conference play with an 8-10 record, lose first round of conference tourney, have an 8 or 9 seed and lose first round. Lets be charitable and say we win our homecoming game. Finish 20-13.

Scenario 2: There is no dissention or dislike. The team pulls together and finishes conference with 13-5 record and #14. We lose in conference tourney finals, but make it to second weekend in Big Dance. Considering all the chaos (Preston) during the season we call this a successful year and look forward to an almost new team next year.

WE will probably be somewhere in between, but for the sake of Jayhawk Nation, I pray we are much closer to scenario number 2. GO HAWKS!!!

  • @Big-Clyde52

Gosh… I don’t know. If there is something going on, I think I would first consider an issue with pot use over a “family feud.”

Over the last years, pot is absolutely everywhere. I was in church this morning and overheard two elder ladies talking about it.

Pot produces all of the side effects we are suffering from right now.

I started thinking more about it after the BG story informing us he was popped with a vehicle with a certain amount above what a user typically would have. Made me wonder if he was returning from Colorado to go back to Lawrence and distribute it. Made sense that he may still be connected to our team. But then… I’m sure the guys on our team have access to pot everywhere.

  • @CRH107 I rewatched pregame and during the shoot around svi did not have a black eye.

  • @StLJhawk I just got back as well - you weren’t on my cruise were you?

  • @nuleafjhawk no, did a week at this killer Air BnB on a beach in Costa Rica.

  • @drgnslayr that was sarcasm, right?
