Games Tonight (Dec 5)
-
Nova looked like one of the best teams in America last night. Mikal Bridges has grown into a potential lotto pick. Having Spellman in the middle really helps them on the boards and protecting the rim. They just look like a typical smart Nova teams with plenty of options. They lack a true go-to guy like they had last season but they may avoid situations for much of the year where that’s going to matter much. It looks like most nights Brunson & Bridges can carry the team and everyone else just fills their role. Jay Wright continues to put out a high quality product on the court despite losing multiple starters. The Big East will test them this season which should be an ultra competitive league this year.
As for last nights game with Gonzaga I thought it was a bad matchup for the Zags. They don’t have the talent they had last year and Nova was a more complete basketball team and it showed big time for large stretches of the game.
-
I agree. Other than their bigs they don’t have much of anything, a good outside shooter could have put that game away but they kept passing open looks to go inside. Like I said before, Arizona will continue to improve and with the talent it has is a legitimate top 10 maybe even top 5.
-
Everytime I see Nova trap the ball at half court, and in the corners, I just wish we would try doing the same thing. Maybe not every play, but man does that generate turnovers, and run outs.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Even when A & M went inside, they don’t do any seal offs that I could see- it was alot of those 4 to 6 foot jumpers. I was thinking paper tiger watching Kennedy’s offense. I have zero fear of them.
-
@KUSTEVE but you know they will play their best coming into Allen Fieldhouse. Pigs will fly before a team doesn’t come amped up to play us.
But overall I saw what you saw last night - a team that can be pretty good defensively but not exactly dynamic offensively like Duke or Michigan State or our guys.
-
@KUSTEVE TAM’s ranks 36th in the nation in rebound margin. Not bad. KU is 56th. What negative impact did you see from the failure to seal? Perhaps their rebound margin was bulked up against bad teams. And rebound margin can be affected on the offensive end if you make shots – not as many available rebounds, but also for the opposition(the other way around) because they have more balls to rebound – so both affect the margin. We’re 3rd, TAM is 49th there.
-
If the guard from A&M could have made all three of his FT’s this game might have ended differently in OT. Ayton fouled the shooter with just a few seconds left in the game. He missed one and that sealed their fate.
We’ve seen better offensive performances from A&M this season. Any casual fan could have tuned into KU’s game against Kentucky or Syracuse and seen that KU hasn’t exactly lit up the world against better competition either
These were two teams that could be bound for the later stages of the tournament. I thought A&M did an excellent job of limiting Ayton to quality shots because Zona played two bigs primarily A&M was able to leave the other big alone and trap him. Against KU A&M probably doesn’t get that luxury if they try and double/triple team Doke down in the low post. A&M’s length will bother us though especially pogo stick Williams who’s a bigger version of Jordan Bell.
-
He had made 17-18 or something like it prior to that.
Davis and Ayton are the real deal. Davis will be hard to stop with what we have but his rebounding was limited to 2 at this game. ESPN was hyping up the Ayton-Wiliams match up and I understand he is the higher ranked player but Davis is in my opinion the best player on the team. A&M has 7 players 6’-9" or taller.
Funny take. On the Arizona last foul on the 3 point attempt the refs went to review if his foot was on the line…of the NBA 3 -point line; he was well behind the college 3-point line.
-
@HighEliteMajor They don’t post up. reminds me of Baylor. They had a decided advantage down low, especially against Ristic, and never challenged him. How many times have we seen Baylor have one of the tallest front lines in basketball, and never play to the strengths? I thought the whole A & M team looked a little slow and cumbersome on offense.
-
@KUSTEVE just against Purdue last year, our speed will be the deciding factor. That Purdue game was perfect execution on how to beat a taller team.
-
That was funny.
I agree Davis is the best player on their team.
Williams hasn’t looked the part of a lotto pick so far in his 2nd year. He might have stayed a season too long stock wise
-
@KUSTEVE Interesting. I haven’t seen TAM play this season yet. DeCoursey on the radio today said he thought they were a top 5 type team. Baylor is an interesting comparison. Good info to look for.
-
It sure did not look like top 5 team last night. We will find out soon enough…
-
I don’t believe we’ve seen A&M’s best basketball yet. Remember they started the season down 2 starters and they are just now getting into game action on a regular basis. I still think they look like the best team in the SEC and by the time they come to Allen Fieldhouse this could be a team well equipped to give us a serious challenge
-
We all remember TAM giving Self one of his few home losses … no repeats, please.
-
@HighEliteMajor amen to that brother
-
@HighEliteMajor KU by 15. I think WVU will give us a much better game.
-
@KUSTEVE they always do. I would be surprised if they didnt.
-
@KUSTEVE @HawkChamp Huggins loves his bonus lol
-
@HighEliteMajor that was a good game, Acie Law, that’s a name I haven’t heard or thought of in a long time. He hit a tightly guarded 3 on Rush to seal it.

I…was…there… Only KU loss I’ve personally attended. Acie Law IV killed it that night.
-
@dylans I’ve never been to a KU loss in basketball (8-0),but never been to a win in football (0-6).
-
@kjayhawks I’ve seen KU beat the sooners in football. (Terry Allen I think)
I’ve honestly lost track of the amount of games I’ve been to, but I’d say roughly 75 games in Allen Fieldhouse and 3 in the Sprint Center.
I wish it were more.
-
@dylans Ah … I enjoyed both they ORU loss and the Richmond loss. Both were the shocking type.
-
@HighEliteMajor Ouch. Glad I wasn’t in public myself. I wasn’t very impressed either time.
Well I’m hoping to see Sosinksi in person during the Omaha “game”
-
@dylans Yes, 1998 would be the last W for us bs OU in FB. Ya I’ve been to a B.B. game every year since 09. I’m only 2.5 hours from Lawrence. It just too expensive to go a ton, we’ve considered relocating to Lawrence but my wife would hate me going to all sorts of games and we’d go broke lol.
-
@HighEliteMajor I was madder than a one legged waiter working at IHOP atfter the Richmond game.
-
@kjayhawks I had season tickets for a few years as a student. Now it’s a 6 1/2 hour drive to Lawrence so once or twice a season is it.
The Big12 tournament is a blast (esp. if KU wins it), but you can’t beat Allen Fieldhouse.
-
@dylans I’ve wanted to go to KC for several years now for that. I’m hoping I can go to Wichita for the tournament games this year. It’s only an 50 minute drive for me.
-
Best time is for the Big 12 Tournament, the weather is usually nice and the entire area (Power and Light District) is jumping. If you can’t get tickets you can watch the games on the big screen. Huge party.
-
A few figures from the KU site, enjoy them…
- Kansas is the only NCAA DI program that can boast five players averaging at least 11.9 points per game.
- The Jayhawks rank among the top-10 of NCAA DI in five offensive categories: First in scoring margin (+30.6), first in field goals per game (30.6), third in field goal percentage (53.5), third in assists per game (20.3), sixth in points per game (91.9) and 10th in 3-point field goal percentage (43.5). Kansas also ranks 11th in the NCAA in 3-pointers made per game (11.6).
- No Kansas team has averaged more than 94 ppg in its opening six contests of a season since the 2000-01 Jayhawks and no KU team has scored more points in its first six outings since the 1988-89 squad that averaged 95.2 ppg in the opening six games of Roy Williams’ tenure at KU.
- KU features four players that are shooting over 50 percent from the field (w/ min. of 3 attemtps per game), including, Udoka Azubuike, who boasts a 76 percent clip, the second-best mark in NCAA DI .
- Kansas is averaging 51.7 points in the first half and is outscoring its opponents by an average of 22.8 points in the opening 20 minutes - The Jayhawks have also proved to be an efficient offense, scoring an average of 1.18 points per possession. Only five other DI programs boast a higher figure.
-
Hey Rooster…let’s kick some Huskie ass! RCJHGKU!
-
@KUSTEVE I am herewith you, Close game so far … 20 - 20
-
@Red.Rooster to dang close, dumb foul by Doke!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Dumb foul on Mitch!??
-
@Red.Rooster calling them close!
-
has an oregon game feel. Team just doesn’t have much energy or smarts right now.
-
@HawkChamp Amen !!!
-
And there’s Malik playing stupid on the break. Coaching staff really needs to have a chat with him about playing smart.
-
Boy oh boy got to play without fouling. Can’t put the refs in a position to blow the whistle, which is what I always kept in mind as a player.
-
Clay can’t hang
-
Dumb shot after dumb shot. Why are they so timid in the middle of the zone? Good grief
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Dok has to play smarter. That is the only solution right now. There is no other option.
-
@HawkChamp Yes…Vick looked so good in the middle against Cuse…now he looks bad…just shoot it. Garrett doesn’t even look at the basket in the middle…why put him there?
-
Worse half of the season. Don’t seem to know how to deal with the extended zone. Hopefully Coach Self can get them straightened at half time.
-
Fan hubris before the game was a good indicator of Team hubris
-
Devonte’s legs legs look gone
-
Dokes a baby
-
Play the fb player

Man, this was what I was talking about yesterday. Ku can’t make treys, and Huskies look very comfy in their schemes finally. Also Boeheim gave them a good scout. We would be blown out without La Cobra striking for twos repeatedly
