And There Goes Heaps, Turzilli and Miller

  • Bye Guys! Best of luck to you, wherever you go. I hope you can find a place that will utilize your talents and where you can win more than 2 or 3 games in your college careers.

I’m REAL close to falling off the CW Bandwagon…

  • @nuleafjhawk I don’t know why the departure of these guys would change your opinion of Weis. Do you ever remember Turzilili doing anything? He was part of a pretty awful receiving core and the culprit of countless dropped passes.

Darrian Miller, while showing promise has had nothing but problems since coming to KU. KU has a backfield of 5 running backs with 4 of them more than capable.

And finally, Heaps. Do you honestly mean to tell me that you’re disappointed that Heaps is leaving? To me, Cummings is more than capable of filling the backup role. I’m sorry to be so vulgar…but Heaps was the definition of a pussy. He checked down instantly because it was the safe thing to do. That’s great. But not when it gets your receivers killed, which he did on a regular basis. He played scared, and it was obvious. Weis certainly didn’t help him, but Heaps’ timidity straight up frightens me. Heaps and Crist were serviceable fixes to a big problem. Cummings was clearly better than Crist, and Cozart was clearly better than Heaps…as a freshman. Heaps is a pocket passer. There is no pocket formed by KU’s O-line. Cozart is our best bet. And even if he’s not, we need a mobile QB to cover our deficiencies. Each of KU’s QBs are more mobile than Heaps.

I understand the disappointment with Weis. But at the same time, a lack of patience has been a big reason why KU’s football program has suffered for years. If Weis doesn’t get KU to a bowl game within the next 2-3 years, then yes, it is perhaps time for a change. It would be nice if KU fans could have the patience and understanding to know that you have to give a coach AT LEAST three years before passing judgement.

  • @MoonwalkMafia

While I agree that Cozart is the best of the bunch, I am not sold on Cummings, who other than some running skills, does not bring much more to the table; have you seen his passes? He misses receivers by 10-20 feet; Heaps is head and shoulder above Cummings. I just don’t see Cumming as a the backup. I believe Milweard and Darling will be ahead of him by the time season starts.

I agree on Miller; great potential but way too many off-field issues that KU just does not need.

  • @MoonwalkMafia Was the whole rest of the country wrong about Heaps and Crist?

(I had to google Crist - that’s how much impact he made. Two years from now, I’ll google Heaps if I want to remember something about him)

So, what made two 5 star quarterbacks ( that’s 10 stars!! ) turn to mush when they landed in Lawrence, Ks?

Weis may be the greatest coach since Lombardi, but he’s keeping it a big secret so far. Maybe this is the year he’s gonna pull the rabbit out of the hat…or disappear.

  • @nuleafjhawk

So, what made two 5 star quarterbacks ( that’s 10 stars!! ) turn to mush when they landed in Lawrence, Ks?

Lack of support personnel? Look at all the great QBs, they all had receivers that could catch balls regardless of how precisely it was thrown. They also had an offensive line that protected them and gave them time to find receivers and a good running game to mix it up.

Other than a decent but spotty running game, KU has not had the other components to make a good QB great in recent years The last KU team that had all the component was the Mangino/Ressing Orange Bowl team.

  • @JayHawkFanToo I watched hi lights of Crist at an all-star game in post-season. He did great, I don’t know if he was awarded MVP, but I know they said he should be if he didn’t get it. Amazing what a decent O line can do for a QB!

  • I for one am really disappointed we could raise so high as the Orange Bowl bid, let alone win it-to the aftermath are in now. We went through the same thing TTech did over a loser with loser parents. As a former athlete it burns me- and we are still suffering YEARS later. It makes me want to go after the pu$$ies that destroyed our program by attacking the coach.

WHAT LOSERS!!! As a former alum and/or student athlete they should NEVER be allowed to associate themselves with KU or show themselves on campus. Frankly if I ran into one of them on the street I would enjoy punching them and the parent in the mouth as well.

This is directed at Manginos attackers.

  • I wrote a hilariously funny bit about Charlie Weiss, but then I decided it was wrong to kick a Jayhawk, when he was down.

  • @nuleafjhawk What made them turn to mush when they landed in Lawrence??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? They were mush before they got here!!! That’s why they went to KU! Come on!

I don’t know if I’ve ever tried to be so emphatic in a post, but seriously, that’s the reason why they came here. Because ND and BYU didn’t care that they left. Heaps has a lot of talent, but again, he lacks the…fortitude to play at this level, at least with this poor of an offensive line.

@JayHawkFanToo you may be right. Cummings does not have the arm that Heaps does. That much is true, but after watching Heaps’ timid play over and over again, give me a gamer. Anyone over Heaps. He’s a puss. I’m sorry, but it’s obvious. If Cummings isn’t the backup–which you could very well be right about–give me Milweard and Darling.

  • @MoonwalkMafia I think you should tell us how you really feel…

  • @nuleafjhawk Sorry, but that comment was completely clueless. And when you make a post indirectly calling for a guy’s job because two very mediocre QBs didn’t perform well it warrants that reaction…

  • @MoonwalkMafia Now you’re the one being clueless. They weren’t " mediocre " until they got to KU (and FYI, Charlie Weis is the coach of KU so he has something to do with their performance once they arrive here).

If you actually read , instead of reading into, I said I was close to falling off the bandwagon. I’ve not given up hope completely. At the same time, I’m not convinced that he shouldn’t sell insurance or be a stand up comic.

  • @nuleafjhawk Yes. They were mediocre before they came to KU. That’s why they came to KU. Because if they were good they never would’ve left Notre Dame or BYU.

  • @MoonwalkMafia So everyone that transfers from one school to another is mediocre. We got a LOT of mediocrity out there!

Now what we were originally debating about? Oh yeah, Charlie Weis. Let me back up a few years and tell you that I was one of the (foolish) few who argued that we should keep Turner Gill. Had we done that, where do you think we’d be right now? We’d be winning 3 games per season and have about 87 people in the stands at home games. Before halftime.

If things don’t change very quickly, that’s where we’ll be with Coach Weis.

  • @nuleafjhawk I can’t believe this is still happening. Dayne Crist and Jake Heaps were not good before coming to KU. Heaps had a good freshman season, but then got yanked his sophomore year because he wasn’t any good. Dayne Crist was brutal at ND. How in the world did you get “so everyone who transfers from one school to another is mediocre”? I can’t believe this is still going on…

The argument over Weis is one of impatience. I’m willing to give him 3-4 years to see what he can do. If we win 2 games this season he probably won’t have a job; I’m cautiously optimistic.

Say what you want about Turner Gill, I flat out didn’t want that guy representing KU. He was in over his head, unqualified, lacking any sort of success, narcissistic, etc. I by no means am saying that Weis is the answer, but these three guys (which was our original discussion) does not make me feel any different about Weis. That’s just my opinion of course.

  • @MoonwalkMafia Lol - I feel like I’m having one of “those” arguments with my wife. We’re both right and neither one of us is backing down.

When I started this thread, it was slow and I was bored and I figured any mention of CW would at least get a conversation started.

    Mission accomplished. I guess.

  • @nuleafjhawk Hahaha, now I agree with you. It’s definitely one of those arguments where it’s like “wait, are we really even debating anything anymore?”

    Mission assuredly accomplished, sir 🙂
