A couple of things

  • Hey hope all is having a Great Thursday, just throwing a couple of -Jumpin - - Gee - - Hossa - -Fat - -thoughts out today.

One is it just me and am I imaging things OR Is Doke going to have the type of year I am beginning to feel? - - The more I see him this off season & the more I hear from team mates and such is making my mouth water. I am beginning to feel this kid may just rally have a big break out year. - All I keep hearing and yes we already knew is this is one BIG HOMBRE. - - I just keep hearing about how well he is doing and how he can cover up mistakes where the defense can gamble some he can help protect - -I’m just starting to envison and makes me drool.

2nd. - -Sounding like we making up ground and right there for Emmit Williams, seen some video from the EBYl looks sweet - - -some help please - - -other thoughts on him - -see is ranked 13th according to 247 think he would be good for us? let me know - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 I’m licking my chops over Doke in the middle. The monster in the middle …can’t wait to see him this year.

Would love to land Emmitt Williams, he’s one of the top 5 players in the class in my opinion.

If he was 6’9-6’10 with his elite athletic ability, character and versatility he would probably be in the top 3 and pushing for #1. But he’s 6’7 and is going to be a bit undersized going forward so he’s probably ranked where he should be.

He more than makes up for his size by being an explosive leaper and he plays with a great motor and mentality to the game. He reminds me of a cross between Jordan Bell and Robert Williams (Soph at Texas A&M that turned down the draft this yr). He has nice touch and can shoot the 3 rather well as he’s shown all spring.

As far as his recruitment goes a few things stand out. He’s got a handler, he’s a Nike kid, and he probably will be a spring signee.

What does that mean for KU? A lot. The handler that is involved with Williams was also involved with Duval going to Duke. And now Duke is recruiting Williams and was front and center for his game (while also there for Bagley). Duke insiders seem fairly confident that if they press for Williams they could get him. They might look to him after missing on Cole Swider and if Zion Williamson doesn’t commit to Duke. With Carter likely being a OAD Duke will have a starting spot for him, something KU doesn’t have.

Which brings me back to KU’s situation in the post. Right now KU has Preston and Lightfoot at the 4. Lawson in the waiting (although he can also play the 5 with his length) if KU wanted to play smaller. Even if Preston leaves Williams is competing with a possible All-American and developing talent in Lightfoot for a starting spot. I think its unrealistic to expect Williams is going to come to KU with players standing in his way.

I love how Matt Scott puts in CB’s but then never explains the information he might have received about the player. Meanwhile the Duke board lets out every piece of information they get to their paying fans.

We’ll see how this plays out, if he waits until the Spring maybe KU gets lucky. He’s going to be an awesome talent for whatever school lands him

  • If Zion is an adidas player who attends adidas camps, then if he goes to Duke how does that fit into the oft-cited-but-unproven shoe-company-is-destiny theory?

Good question. I think once you get to the status of Zion its less about the shoe although I’m sure Adidas is probably going to try and push him to an Adidas school if they have any control.

I’m unfamiliar who’s the primary contact in his recruitment (dad?) so that can always make a difference as well. They have been pretty tight lipped since the early spring…

Notice almost all of the schools that Zion is considering are Nike (Duke, UK, UNC, Clemson). KU is the only Adidas school recruiting him and South Carolina is UA. So unless KU lands him at this point it seems shoe affiliation won’t be a major factor for this prospect

  • Zion plans to take an official visit to KU.

  • Well just to follow up with this thread I started, just read on Williams, HA he says he received a call from Coach K about a month ago and I quote. - - " Williams says getting a call from Coach K off his cell was like talking to GOD " - - -Being able to talk to the " Best Coach In the World " - - -to that I say HUH - - is this another waste of time? - - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

    Playing the recruiting game well.

Duke insiders are now saying they don’t think Williams is an option for Duke. Duke has a bunch of people getting interviews and talking with people around Peach Jam and they are not talking confidently about landing him. A few have even sited the “other stuff” in recruiting as I mentioned Emmitt has a handler controlling his fate.

There was an article about him in our SC capital city rag, The State Newspaper, re how he might decide early. Mentions his trips (unscheduled as yet) to Az, UCLA, and KU will be official trip because the distance is so far (meaning they pay his way). His visits with UnivSouthCarolina, UNC, and Duke can all be done unofficially, I guess, but I think his contacts with team personnel are limited on those.

Note: Just like KCStar, you will have to eventually clear your cookies to read articles after I don’t know how many. Chances are you won’t be reading lots of The State articles unless Zion gets really interesting for us this coming year.
