    But if he hangs on the rim wont Cliff get a T? {[Sarcasm font]}

  • I was rooting for UConn (OK, I was rooting against Kentucky) and was relieved at the outcome, but I have to say this.

And I won’t win any brownie points with you guys.

I’ve been a Calipari basher as long as I can remember. I’ve been a bandwagon basher. But I was pretty impressed with what I saw from Calipari tonight. How he handled himself, how his team played and how he talked with the media. I loved his answer at the end of the half as to why Randle was playing so poorly. He didn’t get all defensive or smart alecky - he gave the right answer.

“He’s 18 years old. He’s nervous. That’s what happens when you have talent and energy and aren’t playing aggressively” (that last part was kind of paraphrased)

Same with after the game. He was calm, polite, and he gave proper answers to the questions he was asked. He wasn’t whining. He wasn’t blaming the refs. I thought he handled himself very well.

He was one heck of a lot less slimy than a few other coaches I can think of. YES, I will name names. Billy Tubbs. Jon Cheney (gives me shivers just thinking of him) Bob Huggins. Rat-Face (Duke’s coach). Thad Motta (ewwww). The list goes on and on. By the way, these fellows may or may not actually be slimy, but that’s my perception of them.

Anyway, I know I won’t change any one’s perception of him, but I have to say that at least for tonight - he changed my perception of him.

Randle didn’t play aggressively? I thought he played really aggressively, but he just didn’t produce much from his aggressive play. It did create for others on the court for uk. UConn’s age, experience, and maturity won out over uk in some key areas.

  • I for one am glad we did not win this years National Championship game.

Who would want one of those shirts, “LONE STAR STATEMENT”??

I don’t want anything with Texas on it let alone a reference to Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.

  • @approxinfinity Just out of curiosity - who is this girl? Is it one of Kentucky’s cheerleaders?

  • @truehawk93 I’m pretty sure that’s what Calipari said, just before the second half started. Talking about Randle’s first half play. I could be wrong…

  • @nuleafjhawk > @approxinfinity Just out of curiosity - who is this girl? Is it one of Kentucky’s cheerleaders?

Man I ran my cursor all over your comment looking for a link to a picture of a girl before it dawned on me you were commenting about the hairy leg with the tattoo on it. lol You’re not nice. lol

And to think I just sold my old one on Craigs list the week before KU lost. Man I could have burned if I knew that was the in thing to do.

  • @JRyman Ouch, I live in Texas. What did Texas do to a Nebraska guy to get him this ticked off?

  • Well there’s the Cowboys for one.

Maybe I should have just said Dallas, I don’t like.

Didn’t mean to offend. I’ve got in-laws that live in Mizzery I offend them all the time.

  • @MoonwalkMafia That’s your right. The year with a 1st round NIT loss is a stain that is difficult to remove. No thank you.

  • @KansasComet It really isn’t. In the same way that a two year tournament ban (apparently) isn’t.

  • @JRyman Well My wife is a KSU gal but we make it okay- we just can’t watch KU KSU games in the same room. We tape them knowing one of us will want to watch it after the results are known.

Now my sister and husband are Huge KSU fans and I have to walk very softly. This guy won’t even wear red or blue he hates KU so much.

  • @JayhawkRock78 My wife is a Husker fan, football volleyball but it’s funny how I am getting her to pay a little attention to KU basketball. I mean it’s taken 16 years three kids, two of which are KU fans, (I had to give her one) the other is momma’s girl. My neighbors are all die hard Husker fans and it drives me nuts cause when there is a football party I will go so I can drink BS and eat good food so then they say Im a closet Husker fan.

    No way!! No chance!!

Don’t even get me started about dealing with my father-in-law and his love for the huskers…

  • @JRyman

“But if he hangs on the rim wont Cliff get a T? {[Sarcasm font]}”

    Some Ts are worth it!

He kind of looks like he might have a “Chocolate Thunder” dunk or two in him. Remember “Chocolate Thunder?”

He’s the guy that made the NBA structurally upgrade their glass backboards and entire goal structure (all the way to the ground).

  • @drgnslayr oh yeah he dunked from the side knowing that would break the back boards.

Darryl Dawkins. I used to have an outdoor basketball with his printed on autograph.

  • @drgnslayr Ah… the memories…

    The first one he named…

    “The Chocolate-Thunder-Flying, Robinzine-Crying, Teeth-Shaking, Glass-Breaking, Rump-Roasting, Bun-Toasting, Wham-Bam, Glass-Breaker-I-Am-Jam.”

He named other dunks: the Rim Wrecker, the Go-Rilla, the Look Out Below, the In-Your-Face Disgrace, the Cover Your Head, the Yo-Mama, and the Spine-Chiller Supreme.

And that’s how the breakaway rim came to be.

And just of kicks, this is my own Chocolate Thunder…

  • @JayHawkFanToo sharp!!! Love it!

  • @JRyman Well here is a KU -Huskers coaching tree story for you in a minor sport. HOF Nebraska track coach Gary Peppin has a phenomenal record, but he was at KU coaching jumps when I was there in the 70’s with world class athletes. He still takes Nebraska to the KU relays and I have a photo of him with about 10 old KU track guys from last year.

  • @JayhawkRock78 cool! I’m volunteering at the relays next week!

  • @Crimsonorblue22

My mid-life crisis indulgence. Cheaper and a much less complicated that a young girlfriend. Only 30 cars were fabricated that year with the 3.0 engine in the Impala Brown color, and only 4 hardtops of that color we released over the entire production life of the BMW Z3, so this particular car is pretty unique. It is extremely low mileage and now mostly sits in my garage and I have driven it maybe 50 miles per year for the last few years.

  • @JayhawkRock78 a coworkers son will be running at the relays next week for Millard south high school. I’d like to go down for it one time but I know it won’t be this year.

  • @JRyman Have you guys read the copy on KUsports.com that Joel is to have a press conf tomorrow at 2:00 PM?

    http://www2.kusports.com/news/2014/apr/08/joel-embiid-announce-future-plans-news-conference-/

  • @JRyman probably a few kinks to work out this year, I know they are working hard to be ready!

  • @JayHawkFanToo that’s a nice ride

All those named dunks make me laugh cause I don’t think he ever thought about them until he was asked what he called them and just rattled off what was on his mind.

It also reminds me when Rick Mahon was traded to the Sixers. Charles Barkley got called for a foul not sure on who not who the line was directed at the player or the ref, but Mahorn says, “if you pay the fine I’ll take him out.” The ref instantly Td them both up. They just laughed.

  • @globaljaybird I guess there’s still a 50/50 chance he stays

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Happy to hear you are a part of it. Living in Texas limits my visits.

I don’t know the layout of the new track facility, but At Memorial Stadium he would sit in one of the front rows Kati cornered from the finish line where the north long jump pit and high jump are were so he could coach both jumps.

. Normally the Nebraska squad. Was 20 rows up and he was sitting with old ku track athletes(now sixty-ish). Peppin has a short stocky build and has a full head of white hair.

  • @JRyman We live in Texas so my trips are limited but last year we had a great reunion at the ku relays. With 30 million people in Texas my son is doubtful to compete at Texas Relays (high school) next year but I think he would have a good chance to qualify, maybe even place at the KU relays.

  • @JRyman What is his event and time?

  • @JayhawkRock78 distance melody relay. Not sure the time. He runs the half mile right around 2 flat but has been faster last year. He also runs the mile I think 4:18. He’s a junior. They won state cross country short a guy he finished 6th over all

He’s getting lots of letters from schools this spring.

  • @JRyman I’ll try to check it out, what are their colors?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 red and white. Millard south patriots.

  • @JRyman dmr is at 2:30 fri.

  • I ran track in highschool for three years and only high jumped my senior year. No jumping coach, not good practice area really no good track meets to jump at and I got 6-2. Hurt my knew warming up for state, and I think I might have been able to win if I could have jumped pain free in my class anyway. We were in the smallest class of schools in Nebraska.

I played one year of college ball then it was no longer fun so I jumped for one year and was getting 6-6 regularly. Really enjoyed it until my knees said no more.

  • @JRyman Wow, those are great times, let alone for a junior. No surprise he is hearing from so many schools. Obviously he has worked very very hard to get where he is. Success begets success, and his work ethic insures a great future even after he hangs his spikes up. Must be a treat to watch him compete.

  • @JayhawkRock78 Funny story, this spring the first meet was really cold and windy so their coach said they weren’t going to compete in it. So all the distance runners met up at the school put on their uni’s and sweats and ran to the track meet and sat there at watched it and ran back to the school. About 6 miles give or take a few tenths one way.

Yeah he really enjoys it and runs all the time. And on top of that he is really a great kid, a good person.
