LONZO BALL FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR- HIS FATHER WAS IN CHARGE OF THE VOTE
-
Well, maybe not. Maybe it was the Ruskies, but either way, that was a terrible pick. Fultz or JJ were heads and tails better. Heck, I don’t think Ball was the best freshman on their team- TJ Leaf has that honor.
-
Ball equals good. Josh equals better Josh > Ball
Father Ball =
The above is merely joking and needs to be revised to:
See you on the wood. We’ll decide it there.
Father Ball, my apologies. the rules should be changed to not let a father run a POY VOTE, if that were what happened.

What publication is that? The one I saw had him leading but the final result will not be announced until next week.

@JayHawkFanToo USA Today.

I have no problem with Ball winning the award. Make no mistake he’s a really good basketball player and has been instrumental to why UCLA is having a great year. His passing ability rubbed off on the team and him running point has allowed Alford to focus more on being the shooter he is which makes them difficult to defend. Alford broke the 3 point record for his career, not sure he would have got there without Ball.
As for JJ, he gets overshadowed by Mason. We know how good Jackson is, the world knows it he’s a 2nd team All American along-side the POY in the nation. I also think the reputation of his shooting still hurts him in people’s opinions. But there is not a more complete freshman than Jackson.
Fultz is good, NBA good and could be a star in the league but for my money if you can’t elevate the play of your team how good are you really? The Washington system is street ball, guys get stats every year.
-
I was just being partial. Ball is a great player. Started watching him closely two months ago. He has been amazing inthat stretch.
-
-
His father has been an unnecessary distraction. I don’t understand how people are giving him a platform to talk on but with what he’s said recently, its click bait. Let your sons play speak for itself. Lonzo has a great future ahead of him and is such an unique talent that is going to be fun to watch in the NBA game
-
Agreed.
But I want to add this about a matchup with UCLA.
If the game came down to those two deciding it, I am sleeping just fine with Josh.
I would rather go to war with Josh.
I reckon Self would rotate a lot of guys on Ball.
I like our chances.
-
Definitely, Jackson is a matchup problem for them but Leaf is a matchup issue for us.
It would be a fantastic matchup, maybe the most exciting of the tournament.
Both teams are efficient on offense. KU plays better defense overall.
-
@jaybate-1.0 That would be a fun game to watch! I too am confident the good guys would win. One bracket I saw had UCLA as KU’s two seed. That’d be alright. Of course we’d have room to complain as they’re ranked 3rd and that correlates to a 1 seed even though they could be seeded as low as a 3.
-
I try to be a half full guy about Carney, er, Tourney, seeding these days.
If our path through our bracket is stacked asymmetrically against us, its bidness as usual.
If our path through our bracket is symmetric with other 1 seeds, we are likely preselected to win, so that the powers-that-appear-to-be can endure a loss leader one year to distract from the conspicuous run of EST teams, then get back to EST teams for another decade or so…
How is that for the power of positive thinking?!!!
We’ve got to acccccc-centuate the positive.
(Note: all fiction. No malice.)
-
Both their big guys are typical types that “don’t pass the eye test” but are better than they appear.
And we could have trouble with them if either Landen, or Bragg, get fouled up early.
But my second biggest concern about facing Alford and UCLA is that Alford would be so desperate to win a ring that he would probably be willing to listen to Bob Knight for once, since playing for him, and then Bob would skull with Coach K and then our beloved Coach Self would really be coaching against Alford, Knight AND Coach K. That’s quite a brain trust to contend with.
I guess Coach Self would have to call LB and channel Phog and Henry. Who knows? Maybe Roy would even chip in with a secondary break scheme for old time’s sake in this battle of the two great coaching trees.
-
@jaybate-1.0 thank you, sir. I think Ball slightly edges him out because of his shooting percentages and passing ability. What we don’t know is that maybe Josh has more assists per game if Frank & Devonte weren’t on the team. JJ Is a heck of a passer, too.
Ball definitely came with less negative publicity, that is for sure (so far, maybe there is pay for play to be revealed that I am not aware of at UCLA, but doubt it )
-
I don’t know about the negative publicity…helicopter dad Ball more than makes up for it. I heard a commentator a few days ago saying that every time daddy Ball makes a stupid comment he gets turned off on the son. Unfair but true.
-
@JayHawkFanToo I read somewhere but I can’t remember where now, but the article said the final voting and announcement wouldn’t be made for freshman of the year until the weekend of the final four. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
I wa reading an article about Lonzo’s dad Lavor, firing back at Charles Barkley, saying if Charles knew anything or what he was talking about, he might have won a championship whatever the hell that means.
Anyways the article said that the comments from Lovar hadn’t been lost by the NBA folks. - - Ask if the NBA had concerns, a scout said, not really, he says as soon as he gets his money or when he does he wil ignore his father. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
