How desperate are we for a PG exactly?

Tons of statistics there, some of which I don’t even really understand!
-
@JRyman I would agree with that.
Does anybody remember Nino Jackson? He was a PG recruit on our radar a few years ago that seemed to have all kinds of issues, and I don’t know that he ever ended up anywhere (a google search shows he played this last season at Loyola Marymount after spending a year at some NACA Div III school in Georgia). Adams bouncing around kind of reminds me of that guy.
Nino Jackson wound up at Kevin Young’s old school LMU, but he left almost as quickly as he arrived.
-
@konkeyDong Haha! Didn’t see that he had left. Well let’s add him to the list with Adams! There ya go Self, we found you two stud combo guards easy. You’re welcome
-
I’d take Adams back. In the magical world where we could go back in time and undo his stupidity I would. He’s headed to Auburn now. I wouldn’t do it in reality, but as far as preferences go, I’d take him back, that’s why I didn’t understand why he was such a baby about not playing a ton his FRESHMAN year.
-
@MoonwalkMafia Good find, although it sounds like it’s not quite a done deal.
-
@konkeyDong I’m thinking him and pearl might be a perfect match!
-
Unless I am forgetting something that was common knowledge, we don’t know exactly why he transferred, do we? We were presuming it had something to do with attitude or being responsible. If it were one of those things, why would we take him back? If it were playing time, why would he come back?
-
How about this guy?
-
You can’t navigate a boat without a captain. Or if you do, I don’t want to be on that boat.
@nuleafjhawk Your statement conjured up an image…

Funny how the guy got labeled a cancer & a bad locker room guy. Aside from tweeting on his frustration over lack of playing time, does anybody KNOW or have any sources that he was such a cancer? I don’t remember reading anything or seeing any tweets from former KU players on that team stating or insinuating as much.
Rio has a history of changing schools clear back to High School. After he left KU and transferred to Ohio, apparently he had problems and he did not leave as much as he was asked to leave, and he did not stick with JuCo either, so there is got to be some truth to the rumors that he was a bigger “distraction” than he had talent. His JuCo numbers are irrelevant; you can take just about any KU player and they would be the MVP at most JuCos.
As I recall Nino Jackson had serious academic problems and ended up at a prep school trying to get the grades needed for Division I. He played for Loyola Marymount but apparently he has left the program as well. A talented player with a lot off-the-court issues…
Two talented players that wasted precious opportunities. I don’t believe I would want either one at KU.

@HighEliteMajor I’d keep Tharpe. Tharpe has limitations, but he also had a few outstanding games. I don’t remember who said it, but I agree that a less talented player can play at a higher level, but he will have to maintain his level with much more effort than the more talented players. This season we’ve seen Wiggins cruise plenty of times, but he was still the high scorer out of those games. Had Wiggins put out his maximum effort every game, he would not have to wait until the last a few games to score 40+. Back to Tharpe, I always believe the higher class men are more valuable than the freshmen. Imagine we had 2 players of TRob’s quality against Kentucky’s freshmen or TRob with Withey last year. Who can say we wouldn’t have won the NC in 2012 or 2013? Tharpe has limitations, but he has 3 years of experience under Coach Self. I’d start Frankamp with Mason backup, then Tharpe in the same role as Frankamp was this season. He will give us some good games sometimes next season, but I agree and don’t see him as the focus of the team.

@icthawkfan316 “cancer” may be too strong a word, but I remember his sideline antics. There was enough sarcasm in his cheers that gave me the feeling that he was all about himself. No, I don’t know him personally, but I recognize the type of person he was. Not someone I want to be around.
-
Since Self is buried into the philosophy of running combo guards at point… why not go for it all? Since we seem to think we may need another 6’9" PF (Anthony Lee)… we’ll just make him a combo guard and run him at point. Finally… enough height on the perimeter!

This post is deleted!
-
@drgnslayr no need Embiid is returning to run the point
-
Brilliant! Imagine his draft stock then? The first 7’ PG who also averages 3.8 BPG, 11.2 RPG!
-
Taller version of Magic Johnson…
-
“How desperate are we for a PG exactly?”
Well there’s a blurb in the Jeff Boschee article on KUSports about us being interested in a guy who is trying to get out of his commitment to Appalachian St.
-
@JayHawkFanToo If Embiid were still playing soccer, I’d say he has the potential to become a taller version of Peter Crouch. But the second coming of the Dream is pretty cool too.
-
Commenting on Tharpe’s posting of his “compromising” twitter photo, Oakville say’s if he was to list all of the dumb things he’d done before the age of 25, his post would be…".jaybathian in length !! "
“Now that’s funny, I don’t care who you are…”

@icthawkfan316 I’m available.
I’m a little slower than the average college athlete.
But I don’t own a cell phone.
-
@nuleafjhawk Well, as long as you’re not an OAD, I think we can find a spot for you
-
Am I the only guy who thinks that Frankamp / Mason are going to be a great set of PG’s for the future? They may not be the be all and the end all this coming year but I would love to have those guys stay within the system, get tons of minutes and be extremely confident running the offense as Juniors and Seniors. I say promote from within.
-
@globaljaybird Naked Naadir and Nipples Mcgursky. Is there an “unlook” button anywhere?
-
Former fan of Conan back in the day. Pre-TBS. Don’t have the time now days with a wife and family so I’m not sure if he still does this skit anymore:
In the year two thousand, in the year two thous-and…
I predict there will be screaming about Mason/Frankamp and wanting the back up to get the others minutes because the starter won’t cut it. Just like we did this year with Tharpe and <insert your favorite backup PG>. Which is eerily similar to the year before that with EJ and Tharpe. Which is also eerily similar to the Taylor Brady Reed and EJ debates…

Tough to tell if this is a prank or not, but it very well could be. Still, Matt Carlino appears to be transferring from BYU. Would the LDS pull our legs? Anyway, he’s a 6’2" pure point guard. Not a great shooter, but’s solid all around, and gets more steals than any of our current guards. That’s certainly been missing from this team. Anyway, I hope KU reaches out to him.
-
OK. Looks like the Carlino transfer is the real deal. That’s really good news. We (on the boards at least) are looking for a Deandre Kane to come in and lead KU. Carlio’s not quite that, but he is a talented floor leader that plays with the sort of composure that Tharpe lacked. He’s more of a volume scorer and he needs to work on his J, but he’s a better on ball defender than any of our other PGs, he averages 1.7 steals per game which is far higher than anyone on our team, and he averaged 4.3 assists with a higher usage rate than Tharpe. Also, he strikes me as having better sense off the court than Tharpe has recently displayed. The only things standing in the way are freeing up a scholly and and getting the commit. I think the latter is going to be the harder part, but should still be plenty doable. While I’m not necessarily convinced Carlino is the best we can do, I don’t see any reason to hold out for better while he fits the bill and is available.
