Motley's Drue vs 7 and a half Eligible Scholarship Players Game Thread

  • @kjayhawks I hear ya. If I recall correctly, didn’t Motley get all his points posting up against our bigs? I know in the 2nd half he eventually did get touches but we doubled him. Then the one time we didn’t double him, he scored.

Josh isn’t a post-up big, he’s obviously more of a small 4 in a 5-guard lineup. I think Josh is the PERFECT zone-buster because of his passing ability (in addition to his scoring) and knew he’d have a great game tonight.

Motley simply isn’t as talented as JJ, so that’s part of it. Should Motley have known how to pass out of a double-team? Yeah, probably. But he just didn’t. I think that’s where the coaching comes from. At the end of the day, Motley’s a post player and it’s tough to post in a zone, particularly when double-teams are flying at you and you don’t know how to pass out of it.

    Just playing devil’s advocate…

  • @globaljaybird I never said he did

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I don’t get why that report about Vick is even coming out now. Kind of stupid in my opinion since it happened over a year ago. Someone leaked it just to drag his name through the mud and pile on to all the other crap that’s going on. In all reality it’s really none of our business. Obviously the cops and/or the victim didn’t want to pursue a case and it was handled internally by the school.

  • yeah Rick Barnes

  • @RockChalkinTexas Too bad this isn’t the NFL we’d effectively have a two game lead on Baylor if head to head records actually mattered as far as winning the conference outright goes.

  • @HawkInMizery it’s illegal too! 18 scouts in the buildings tonight

  • @Crimsonorblue22 everyone always says we get the calls at home and tonight we shot 27 FTS to 6 but Mason drove the ball to the hoop in the second and drew fouls while Baylor jacked up 3s. Anyone that watched that game knows that’s what happened.

  • @HawkInMizery It also very well could have been the same nut case that Bragg was hooked up with a few weeks ago… that entire family is strange… Someone not governed by the rules of the investigation could have given out all the info they had…2nd or 3rd parties, counsel, a misery grad, who knows ??

  • @kjayhawks yep. We took away their strength and made them shoot jumpers.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Yeah and all of the scouts are hearing about that report now which should have never come out. Those investigations are supposed to be restricted and only certain people are supposed to have access to them.

  • @globaljaybird Which is really unfortunate for Vick. From what I heard during the earlier Bragg investigation Vick had been tangled up with that same young lady. And totally agree that whole family is off balance.

  • @kjayhawks this! As soon as i saw the box score I knew people would bitch about KU getting all the calls at home. You’re not going to get a ton of FT’s if you’re just jacking up jump shot and the other team is driving the lane to force the issue. There were a ton of no calls though during the first half especially when the refs just let them play.

  • Not sure if already posted but Newman wasn’t at the game because he has the flu.

  • @BShark

Who cares about these rankings though. Look at Mason and Graham. Lecomte is clearly a stud beyond his ranking.

I think Baylor has some stats guys that actually know what they’re doing, hence the appropriate lineup selection for tonight. Also, it seems that they’re doing a good job of finding talent in the haystack. , so maybe they have a hand in that too.

Coaching is what wins you these games though, and we saw that tonight with the adjustments in the second half. Very proud of Vick and Svi for making some defensive plays tonight. We couldn’t have done it without those guys (as well as Jackson) defending some of Baylor’s taller players effectively tonight. That said, there were still dumb plays like the missed dunk and getting pegged out of bounds. Those can’t happen late in March. Everyone made some pretty dumb plays tonight though.

  • @betterfireE it seems like our guys cant keep themselves from making silly plays. But maybe one of these days it will get better.

  • @globaljaybird Wife brought home some cake tonite that a patient brought in for the nurses. Said it was rum cake. Didn’t smell too rummy to me but a liberal sprinkling of Bacardi Gold took care of that. 🍹

  • @BShark oh, was concerned!

  • Big difference in rebounding between the halves. Baylor with a lot more rebounds in the first half bu KU ended up with more for the game.

Also, before we anoint Drew a good coach, keep in kind that he hired a new assistant to work with the bigs and this is why they are playing well and he might be also calling the game early and then Drew takes over and screws it up.

Earlier they showed where they took the front line from Baylor (3 players) had them spread their arms touching at the finger tip and measured 21 feet and 8 inches or an average of over 7 feet…that is one tall line with a huge wingspan.

  • @kjayhawks JJ moves like a 🐱 cat to get open catches in that zone. He’s athletic & tall enough to give the passer great angles & he is, so far, damn near unstoppable. He’s at the FT line, on the baseline, he’s like crap 💩 in the pasture on offense in a zone- He’s everywhere. Plus he can drive it, post up, drain trifectas, or flush like a Kohler. JJ is badass & “Big time”- I think that’s what some one called him tonite- big time. We’re gonna go as far as he can take us this year & that very well could be the NC. That young man is the one to put a team over the top We haven’t seen that many OADs fit in like he does at Kansas. RCJH!

  • On da rebound friends. Keep that sunny ☀️ side up… Ithink we just went 8-1 the 1st half of conf & 13 is our destination. No bench, no post, & we just keep winning!!! Yeah !!!

  • This game was more important to us than to Baylor, so I’m glad we won… The back half of the conference schedule is tougher than the front-half, so we have done what we needed to, but will still have to play inspired basketball to get #13.

  • this was a Huge win for us! Huge! Lando came up clutch in the final 2 minutes. Josh was the best player on the court, FRank had another killer second half to close it.

2-1 in the last 3 games. Cant ask for too much more than that fellow jayhawk fans.

KU is in the drivers seat for #13

  • @bskeet Hasn’t KU played everyone once? So the back half should be easier. No at WVU, no Hilton. Hardest games are WVU at Allen and KSU and Baylor on the road. There’s the annual stumbling block at OSU, but all these games are very winnable.

  • @dylans can you imagine what ksu will be like? And while I’m on that, how 'bout our SZ? Where’s he at? Somebody said Self didn’t want him to handle it! I see him at the games and he seems a lil lethargic.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Yes, the octogenarian of dumb (where basketball goes to die) will be rocking. There will be shirtless 300# men wearing purple coveralls pounding their chests! There will be a few really cute gals that turn repulsive when they open their emaws to reveal no teeth. There will be lots of pre-game smack talk and no acknowledgement of the loss afterwards, just lots of excuses. The crowd will be very quiet near the end of the game as KU extends its lead… The court will empty of players and the fans will exit in an orderly fashion.

  • @approxinfinity I would classify SF as backcourt in most cases. But…he is a 3-4 type player. But with BU’s size inside, he would/should be in the backcourt in my book at BU.

I would need more context of the comment. But who knows, the media and analysts say the dumbest things.

  • @kjayhawks Funny but disturbing and a bit creepy

  • @dylans Ithink we go 3-1 in those 4 games w/no loss at AFH.
