Is It For Us Or For Them?

  • After a hard ending like we had, fans are showing how upset they are. That is a good thing.

Is the frustration driven by selfish reasons?

I’m sure some of it is. This is our school, our team, and we want them to win. And we want them to win to advance for another game for us to enjoy. I’m sure we have some ego involved, too.

I get all of that, and I’m one of those people.

But I also believe, deep down, our frustration is owned by the fact that we care about all the players and coaches. We don’t want to see them fail anymore than we would want to experience our own children failing. There is a sadness we share now because we won’t see many of these guys play again in a Kansas uniform. Some we may never see play again. That is a tough loss. That is the biggest reason college basketball is so magnetic. You have to appreciate every minute you have with your guys because the time is very limited.

Another part of caring about our players and coaches… we know there aren’t many shots at something like this (for anyone) and all our guys will carry these results with them throughout their lives. Yes… many of them will have other big games in their future. But college is where the magic is and you only get to be a kid once.

I am going to miss the players that will leave us this year. The one player I know is gone, Tarik… man… I wish we had your other 3 years at Kansas! And to our guys who may leave early… we all wish you the best!

We’ll keep an eye out for all you Jayhawks that leave. Just remember where you came from… once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk!

    Rock Chalk!

  • @drgnslayr nice post! Are you doing a floor burns? You need to finish strong!

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I’ll try to this afternoon! Thanks!

  • @drgnslayr if you’re done w/yard, come on down!

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I’ve completed lots of garden and yard work since our loss. I try to work out my frustrations. It works and I get a lot done in the process!

  • @drgnslayr-I’ve done some really good work in my life when PO’ed. Also made some damn big & regrettable mistakes. Manual labor seems to be the most efficient-at times I 've thought “Manuel” should’ve been my middle name !! and in all political correctness may I add that certainly no malice or insults are intended.

Take out “work” replace with “drinking”

    Been there done that

  • @JRyman

    Beer there, done that?

  • Not much of a drinker anymore… back a few I would have downed a few.

Sometimes you gotta drown your sorrows… and when they float to the surface… drown them again!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Thanks loads for referencing this daincarter site. What a beautiful piece. I, too, would like to pitch in my two cents: Thank you, Andrew Wiggins. You have done much to make this a very special season for the fans of Jayhawk Basketball. May the very best of all good winds sail you forth upon new waters.

  • @REHawk agree… good piece. I’m going to start a news headlines for post-seaon… This will go on there.

    Thanks @Crimsonorblue22

  • @REHawk I’ve really been struggling w/all the ugly stories out there. These are kids and they have given me so much pleasure this season. Bill Self said Andrew was the most polite kid he’s ever had. My son sent me this to cheer me up and have some faith in a jhawk fan! I’m trying to find out more about writer. Thanks for reading it!

  • @drgnslayr

A KU loss in the tourney is always beneficial! I turn the TV off and do other things!

  • Its is amazing how many writers that have seen KU play a couple of times come out of the woodwork and pretend to be experts on the team.

Same for some of the TV analysts. Many of the comments they make are so far off that they are laughable; some cannot even pronounce the players names.

I like Fran Fraschilla as a commentator. He was a pretty decent coach and I am surprised he is not coaching; if Bruce Pearl can get a huge contract, Fraschilla should certainly be able to get a decent contract. Maybe a good current paycheck and not having the aggravation that comes with coaching is not necessarily a bad place to be.

  • @wissoxfan83

I’m down to supporting one team now in this tournament…

    Go Badgers!

  • @drgnslayr

I’ve been careful here not to say it’s no big deal because I’ve got another team in the tourney. I feel guilty a little for being so much into two teams, but it is just sports after all. I think we match up well with Baylor and while not knowing too much about Arizona, I do believe we can take them down as well. A defeat of Arizona was part of our 2000 final four run, of course that means nothing now, but it’s a good omen, if such things are possible.

  • @drgnslayr We’re spoiled rotten to the core. We have an embarrassment of riches. We’re discussing if our Number 1 NBA lottery pick ( Embiid) sticks around, or will we have to sign the number 2 ranked recruit ( Turner)…SIGH… Oh it’s so tough being KU… hehe…

  • That was an awseome article, i’m as guilty as anyone of being to critical of Andrew in first couple hours after the game. But the truth is, is that Andrew gave so much to his team. He shouldn’t be remember for his final game and he shouldn’t have to carry around that weight. I wasn’t around for it but it reminds me of what I heard about how Wilt felt when we didn’t win the championship that he thought he alone let everyone down. He carried that for awhile and thought Kansas didn’t still love him for many years. Andrew was awesome not only for this years team but future teams. He helped on the court as much as off the court from a recruiting stand point. Yea he only had 4 points but I beleive he wanted it with everything he had but he didn’t have the experience to figure out how to beat what they were throwing at him. I don’t blame Andrew for the loss. It was a team effort. He didn’t miss all those bunnies and layups, he didn’t kepe Tharpe int he game with Conner was clearly the better option. He had his faults in the game but so did every other player save for Tarik. Yes he fouled out but we all know at least 2 were crap calls.

  • @HawkInMizery hope you had fun at the wedding! Did you notice in that story a comment was made about wilt?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I did!! I didn’t see it in the story itself, I went back through after you mentinoed it and I saw down below were a poster made a simliar observation about WIlt and his guilt about “letting us down”.

  • @Crimsonorblue22-I did. And I also remember hearing Wilt telling that same story himself the weekend he returned to the fieldhouse. When I watched the ceremony that weekend, I teared up just awful-a flippin grown man. I mean outright weeping with the tears just flowing. Reminded me of the bond I had with Dad.

  • @HawkInMizery-This is why I have to lay a lot of fault at Bill’s feet. The best player on the floor & no preplanned options to run the offense through him. Hell, they could have just cleared out the side & let him drive when matched up M2M. Oh, well…I hope that shortcoming doesn’t hurt recruiting future slashers. Bill has got to adjust to the 3 pt game, he’s still playin ball in the 60’s. JMO

  • @globaljaybird oh man you are killing me! I hope Wiggins doesn’t feel that way! Surely on campus he’s seeing compassion and kindness!
