Diallo Demoted to the D-Leauge

  • Pretty sure we saw this all coming.

The New Orleans Pelicans’ Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Dell Demps announced today that the team has assigned rookie forward Cheick Diallo to the Austin Spurs of the NBA Development League

  • I will be able to watch him here in Austin!!! I also saw something in the paper this week that Naadir Tharpe was picked up by the Delaware DLeague team. Wasn’t that where Brannen Green was drafted?

I started back to work this week part time and made it through the week! I also received from Bill Self’s assistant a package of goodies - 2 posters (one signed by all players and coaches and the other one that is of all the players with the schedule posted below them that is 4 feet long) along with a media guide and 5 pocket schedules. She is someone that I have written each year to get the pocket schedules and she went out of her way to send me stuff this year due to my health issues. I have the poster signed by everyone hanging up on my office wall for all the Longhorn fans to see 😆 .

Got my 12Straight t-shirt on today, KU necklace, Jayhawk socks and Jayhawk earrings. The day I got out of the hospital I had to stop at my pharmacy for medicine before heading home and I had on my Rock Chalk Jayhawk shirt and the pharmacist was telling me about the medicine and she pointed to my shirt and asked “Big Fan?” Found out that she graduated from KU and after talking for awhile I found out that she had worked at the Walgreens in my hometown, Leavenworth, before moving down here. So yesterday on my way home I stopped and found her working and gave her one of the pocket schedules. We are going to try and get together for a watch party out in our area for some upcoming games. The Hawk fans do go to a bar in South Austin but that is too long a drive for me. Can’t wait to see a real game tonight!

    Rock Chalk Jayhawk Go KU!

  • It’s a good move for now because he wasn’t playing.

He’ll get a chance to play and at this rate the Pelicans season is already on the verge of disaster so at some point he will get recalled I’m guessing to see what he can bring to next year

  • @BeddieKU23 The Spurs do use the ones from the Austin Spurs in their rotation regularly so he just needs to prove himself.

  • @RockChalkinTexas Talk about somebody sounding upbeat. Dang, sure wish I was closer I’d pick you up on the way to the bar. RCJHGKU

  • @brooksmd you should join @RockChalkinTexas and me for our next Maui tourney.

  • @RockChalkinTexas that would be fun!

  • @BeddieKU23 Yup, coulda stayed, developed at KU, Won and NC! gone higher in the draft too…

  • @Crimsonorblue22 @rockchalkintexas Wife, while you stay here and work I’m going to Maui with these 2 ladies I met online to watch KU play. Yeah, I don’t think that would work.

  • @BeddieKU23

We may see another story of him being cut loose from D-League and heading overseas.

Something went waaaaay wrong with Diallo.

    Very sad.

    The NBA drafts potential.

The NBA cuts lack of skill.

Why, oh why won’t these players listen to Self?

Diallo could have spent 3 years at KU developing himself into a player with a career!

    Nauseating!

  • @brooksmd bring her! I don’t bite!

  • @jaybate-1.0 Yep that’s why the system is a joke, we draft on potential but don’t give anyone time to develop that potential.

  • Assigned not demoted. Still under NBA contract. Since the Pelicans don’t have a D League affiliate, he’s under a flex assingment. This move is all a out development.

Flex Assignment System: “Upon receipt of an assignment from an independent NBA team, the NBA D-League will identify any NBA D-League team willing to accept the assigned player.  The assigning independent NBA team will then choose the destination for assignment between those teams.  If no NBA D-League team is willing to accept the assigned player, he will be assigned to one of the hybrid affiliate teams pursuant to a lottery.”

Assingment: An assignment occurs when an NBA team sends a player to its NBA D-League affiliate. That player remains under NBA contract and the assigning NBA team has the exclusive rights to recall that player at any time. À Over the past three seasons, an average of 62 NBA players have been assigned to the NBA D-League an average total of 234 times (players with under three years of service can be assigned an unlimited number of times each season).

  • @Ralph

Thanks for taking the time to was us up on this move. Really glad to hear that the Diallo still has a chance

  • After being recalled to the Pelicans a week ago, he played 1 minute and sent back to Austin for more development according to HC.

  • @brooksmd

As Jerry Lee Lewis might have sung…

“A whole lotta developin’ goin’ on!!!”

Or alternatively…something like Chantilly Lace only it ain’t.

*Nylon net trace from the dunk on your face

And a Sony ear bud a-hangin’ down

    Double dribble and a walk

And too much uh trash talk

    Makes the Cheik go down

There ain’t nothin’ gets a hook

    Like a green wood rook

That makes them not act funny

    Makes’em take his money

Make him feel real tight, like some injury tights

Like a newb, oh rookie, that’s uh what I like*

  • I do wonder how much of the decision to be OAD was Diallo’s vs the people around him looking to get paid.

  • @BShark

    10/90

  • Sounds about right…

I remember hearing that Embiid wanted to stay.

  • @BShark

Sometimes it feels like the pizzagate in DC not only involves child sex trafficking, but player trafficking also.

  • @BShark Yeah but DUDE, JoJo absolutely made the right decision going Pro. Had he been healthy he would have been the #1 pick and Look at what he is doing to the League right now!

  • @Lulufulu

Oh for sure, he was ready as a player. It was just so JoJo that he wanted to stay.

  • Diallo’s back with the Pelicans, in the nine games he’s played with Austin, he averaged 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 23.3 minutes.

  • @RockChalkinTexas Prayers for you having a full recovery! I have never been to Austin, but heard it is really nice, so maybe I will take in a game there, someday!
