Rodgers-to-Denver deal still alive ?

  • The soap opera continues. Still wondering whether the Chiefs will have to face Aaron Rodgers twice next season.

When he announced his split with Shailene Woodley (who lives in Colorado) this week, it sounded like that deal was dead. Or maybe not. His old OC in Green Bay is now Denver’s head coach, and his old tight ends coach is the new Broncos OC.

The chess game continues. Looks like the Packers are about to re-hire one of his favorite coaches from the Mike McCarthy days as their QB coach.

    Stay tuned…

  • @nwhawkfan - - Being the lon time life time Green Bay fan - I’ of course have been following this, I dunno but do know he has solved a bunch of issues with the organization and him and Leflurr have gotten on pretty dam good terms -a lot will depend with Devante

I’d say word is probably like 50/50 right now - -BUT I just get this feeling when it’s said and done he stays in GB , just listening some things he ha been saying we shall see

  • Grew up in Wisconsin and a big Packer fan. I now live in Colorado and listen to sports talk radio here. It is uncanny how much the talk here sounds like a deal is already done to get Rodgers. Denver has been so starved for a QB post-Manning and it almost screams of desperation how much assuming is going on here. The talk is their first & second round picks both this year and next plus a player for Rodgers and the talking heads here have already aligned with that going forward.

As a Packer fan, I’m on the fence. Rodgers has clearly underachieved in the postseason (not all his fault, but for sure some is), but their team is still a contender. That said, the iron will never be hotter and they’ll likely not get as much in return if they wait. GB is gonna have to be like everyone else eventually in their search for a QB (not looking good with Jordan Love) so the possibility of having a lot of draft capital to either find a QB or build around another is intriguing.

I’m curious what Chiefs fans would want…for the Broncos to mortgage their future to get 2-3 years out of Rodgers or to go in a different direction?

If I am GB, and I see Cousins, Fields and Goff as the division QBs there is just no way I am not keeping 12. There is absolutely nothing that Denver can offer to give up that level of QB play in a division all but guaranteeing 5 or 6 wins, in a playoff structure benefiting the #1 seed so much.

I do think Denver should move Heaven and Earth to get him. They have a lot of gifted young players and could probably win a SB if they went all in for Rodgers for two seasons like they did with Manning. Jeudy, Patrick, Sutton and Fant with Rodgers would be insane. Javonte Williams at RB too… That would be a damn good team.

At the same time, I’m really not worried? We have another 12+ years of Pat I think. We will get another one. You can’t win them all, and the move makes perfect sense for Denver.

But again - GB would be silly to let him walk. This is the time you go all-in. Push out EVERYONE’s cap hit as far as you can. Sign the best Free Agents. Start a 3 year plan. Year 4, blow it all up and start a rebuild. Picks may or may not pan out. Rodgers is the real deal and if you can get 3 more tries at a SB run when the rest of your division is in a terrible spot you do it.

  • GB should trade for him and use the draft picks they get to make a swap for Shane off KC (also get Wentz to start with). KC then uses extra picks to rebuild DL and D backfield, letting FC, DS, and TM go.

  • @Kcmatt7 The frustrating part as a GB fan is that the time to go ‘all in’ was two years ago after their first NFC championship game appearance. Instead they drafted a QB of the future in the 1st…a 3rd string RB in the 2nd…a 3rd string TE in the 3rd…and traded their 4th to move up to take that QB of the future…RIGHT AFTER THEY WERE IN THE NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. It was such organizational arrogance and it’s why GB is in the position they’re in now. Watching Brady torch the GB secondary last year and then have their offense do literally nothing this year makes me wonder what could’ve been if they’d invested in the now during that draft instead of the future.

I could argue all kinds of sides about Rodgers being regular season awesome and post-season meh…or how Rodgers is a diva…or how the organization did or didn’t handle things well with Rodgers. The reality is that they’ve had the last two years to go ‘all-in’ and while they’ve had really good season…sometimes winning in the playoffs just comes down to a few plays and there’s just no way that their decisions from a few years back didn’t play a part in those losses.

(Side note…I do know that AJ Dillon will help and did help them this year…doesn’t change the overall thought here)

  • As being a life long Packer fan of 55 plus years like I said in earlier post I just think when all is said and done hey stays in GB along with Devonte.

Picked this up late this afternoon which just goes even more why I think he very easily stays:

Multiple people talking on this , from George Stanley : - Green Bay has hired Tom Clements to Coach the QB’S in Green Bay , Clements is one of Aarons favorite Coach’s. Coach Aaron from 2006-2011 - Hard not to believe Rogers had some say in this. - Also Green Bay Hired Brian Storer as the Head Assistant of Special teams who was a team mate of Aaron’s when he was at Cal.

From Zach Kruse states : You don’t hire Tom Clements and move Connor Lewisa to asst QB Coach if Aaron leaves Kruse says Clememts didn’t come out of retirement to be the QB Coach for Jordan Love , a 68 yr old isn’t coming out of retirement to Coach Jordan Love.

Then was stated in Article makes more sense Matt Lafluer has ZERO ties to Clements , you have to assume that Clements didn’t take this job without talking to AR

I just feel in my gut ike I said he will be back. His relationship with the front office is much better , played his entire career with Gb , can pretty much name whateve he wants - -needs and has a realy good relationship with Lafluer - -just feel he is staying - -GO PACK

  • As a Chiefs fan, I welcome the idea of AG to Denver. It will make the division ultra competitive. This may cost Chiefs a game or two but it is better for the division.

Denver should go all in to get him.

  • @focojayhawk they definitely should have gone all in. Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t now either. The incompetence of the other franchises in that division has extended the GB window further

  • EB is coming back as Chiefs OC for next year. There has been some news in the media regarding his relationship with Mahomes.

How do fans feel about this move. Is it better to have consistency while considering current circumstances or move on for a fresh start.

He is not going to Denver , they living a pipe dream

  • I’ll say it again – I think when this is all said and done , Aaron stays right where he is at. - -His relationship with front office is a lot better - - they have in brought in people that Aaron ha wanted like Cobb -he wants to stay with D , and you can almost take it to the bank Green Bay is franchising Adams this year - - -on top of that Aaron saying he wants to retire in Green Bay - -just think when the smoke clears he stays put , they will get it worked out.

Huge Aaron Rogers fan - love the guy to death talent wise - -yet could do without all the drama BS-- could be wrong but my guess I would say would be like 70/30 he is back in Green Bay this coming Season

  • @AsadZ I think I would have been happy with either.

EB gets hated on way too much. Reality is that PM15 had a down year. I don’t think it was playcalling. And if this is a PM15 down year, we’re going to win another one.

By the end of the season the offense was shredding defenses again pretty effortlessly. I do think they should be looking to add another WR this offseason. But EB was not the issue with anything. They’ll be a top 5 offense again.

  • First EB, now Nagy back with the Chiefs.

“Getting the band back together” or taking a step back? Haven’t figured this one out yet. Any consensus buzz so far on KC sports talk radio ?

  • @nwhawkfan I haven’t heard anything. @BShark usually knows these things. I can’t believe if EB was a problem, PM would NOT go along with resigning him.

I do not have sources with the Chiefs like I do KU basketball fwiw.

  • @nwhawkfan my thoughts are the Chiefs still think EB is going to get a HC job one of these cycles.

Brought back Nagy to be OC in a year.

As @Crimsonorblue22 brought up, I believe word is that EB wouldn’t be back if PM didn’t want him back.

  • Well with my boy Aaron I guess now there are some reports that he wants to be paid the highest in NFL history. figures of 50 Millon a year. -Of course he denies this but according to ESPN Dianna Russinc . Aaron wants to be the highest paid by a wide Margin. - I guess he was on the Rich Eisen show.

If this is true as much as I love Aaron as a player - - he can WALK. No player NO ONE worth that kind of money , and on top of that Aaron hasn’t done anything to prove he is worth that kind of money. Oh sure he is like 4 time MVP including back to back - -but that is an individual achievement - but that doesn’t do anything TEAM WISE. - He has been to ONE Superbowl - - ONE. - he has led the team to really good regular seasons records-- let me emphasize REGULAR SEASON - -. - yet when it was on the line he had everything right in front of him - - Home Field throughout the playoffs and he did nothing. - He put up 10 points this year, people try to blame the defense - umm no their played their ass off did really good and that included most the regular season.

Like I said I love Aaron as a player but this whole thing is getting old, – you don’t wanna be here - - there DON’T be here. We just have to take our lumps have some 4-5 win years till we can once again find a elite QB - but 50 million ? - -Aaron buddy you just not worth it - you have not accomplished enough to garner that type of Money.

I hope they can get this worked out and he stays in GB , after all he said he wanted to retire with GB - that’s great, BUT if he just wants out or they just can’t get it worked out - - then trade him your going to get a bundle from what I’ve been seeing. Anywhere from two/three 1st round picks plus players possibly an established QB - -we won’t get burned - -I’m ready for this to just be over Aaron can take the drama with him if he wants out - and Packers move on

  • Well now that the dust is settling, turns out just like I thought that Aaron would return to Green Bay - -finish his career as a Packer. - -Wilson to Denver - -Aaron stays.

Now like I said in a Packers site I belong to, I’ve been a Packer fan since like 1960 & I love Aaron Rodgers - -always have - -Always will. Like I said in the site , I knew I would catch some flack for what I posted & I said that’s fine cause it’s just people’s opinion your opinion - -my opinion and really I probably couldn’t come up with a lot to dis credit the others thoughts. So here are mine:

The deal supposedly 4 year - -200 million - IF that’s true then - - Aaron is not worth it. Again don’t get me wrong Aaron is a really , really good QB - -IN THE REGULAR SEASON. - -Yet for all that money Aaron has produced ONE SUPERBOWL - - -ONE… - Now I realize that all doesn’t fall on Aaron it’s the tam as a whole but like you hear - -now if he has this deal - -like you hear the saying - -" show me the Money " – Packer fns can say to Aaron - show us the results - -50 Millon to much money. GO PACK

  • Good contract moves by both Pack and Broncos.

Ya Gb had to do whatever it took and I’m a huge fan— But now Aaron has to stand up and show he has a pair

  • @jayballer67 What is your take on Zadarius Smith.

    How is his health?

Will Pack sign or release him?

From what I hear he has pretty much recovered. he actually play just a few snaps in the playoff game I believe. - – I think he is gone, I just don’t think with his salary and GB’s salary cap issues and the other players they ahve to try and get worked out - -I don’t think they can sign the Z man to another deal

  • I would not mind Chiefs to go after him with a reasonable offer.
