Seems like he might have a better support system in place then those guys. Would be nice to see one of these stick around 1+ yr

RE: Keeping track of the ever changing 24-25 roster
Moore is a flat out upgrade to Elmarko but we would have been better with both. Elmarko’s upside was going to be a tantalizing part of this season but now Self has a grizzled vet from the SEC who offers more stability in his role on both ends. Moore can shoot and score at the rim and his defense will help a team that has plenty of questions on that end. It sounds like Moore was coming anyway before the injury so this definitely hits Self hard in him wanting 8 starters. Unless they kick the penalty to next yr he’s unlikely to get everything perfect. He can make do with this roster though and has no excuse

Need 2 now…

He signed with Alabama. His handlers wanted him elsewhere

RE: Furphy
I’m hopeful Storr takes feedback he’s gotten from the draft process and KU coaches and figures out how to become a more complete player. If he takes his game to the next level, we will all be very happy.
It’s going to be interesting seeing which guys solidify their roles. Who’s the 6th man, will EJ take a leap, can Flory/Zach give us 10 minutes a game backing up Hunter. Will Passmore factor in the wing rotation. On Paper our depth should be really good. I have a lot more optimism overall with this year’s roster already.
-
RE: Furphy
The depth should improve. One of your 3 transfers is likely your 6th man, Jackson is in year 2. Clemence off a red shirt with 3 years in the system is a wild card. Bidunga is an exciting big man with skills that Hunter doesn’t have so I see that as a good 1-2 combo there. Passmore has a lot of tools we covet at the wing. The athleticism should be improved top to bottom. I would like to see another guard added just for insurance and thinking ahead to life after Harris.
I do think our depth is a bit of an unknown still. Potentially having a starter level guy as your 6th man will be different than last year and that’s huge. I really do believe with the way the game is changing you need to invest in your depth and have 8-9 guys you can depend on every night. We didn’t even have 6 last year and guys were completely worn down in March. That part is on the coaches to improve. Hopefully the roster additions did enough to fix it

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
I don’t know if we can get another impact player in the rotation but there’s no need to leave an open scholly. You get a body because there’s multiple guys redshirting this year. Injuries will happen. Either get to 12 and take the last scholly to dead the NCAA penalties or load up and kick the can to next year. I’d like to see us hit the international market for someone. Use the momentum of Furphy getting drafted.

RE: Furphy
Good year to bet on yourself. Good luck Johnny at the next level. Selfishly as a KU fan, this sucks

RE: Transfer Rumblings
Swain responded to the poster who asked about him so wonder if there’s some stuff under the surface there. He says he doesn’t know of any interest yet but imagine if Robinson does stay in the draft and they can’t get legs with any of the other draft withdrawals that a young player with upside or an International could be the route they go next
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Dangled around KU the entire cycle just to end up at a conference foe. Classic stuff right here
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Swain’s latest update said Robinson leaning towards staying in draft…
-
RE: Dawg Days…
West Virginia has Small on campus to try and seal this up, if not could appear at KU tomm. Will see but every time a visit seems to be coming with this kid he dodges and ends up somewhere else so take it seriously if he actually shows up

Per Robinson…It just may be modern times now, but guys going to their FOURTH college team don’t interest me. Next.
AJ Storr is on his 7th… and he will start for KU.

RE: Transfer Rumblings
Definitely not a stat stuffer but he can shoot the rock and is a confident playmaker. I think this certainly gives Self a proven scorer in the rotation and good positional size to switch on the wing/4. You can go 4 out with him which just seems to be something they should have in their arsenal as an alternative look to the 2 bigs. I’m not getting my hopes up here but man I like this add if it happens
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Intrigued by what role Robinson would have here.
Fills a definite need- made 142 3’s at just under 35% in the last two seasons at BYU.
I know it was 1 game but man did he not look like one of the best players on the floor when they beat us in Allen behind his 18 pts.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
We all watched Robinson come off the bench, play PG in Allen Fieldhouse and make dagger after dagger to beat us. Self was there too I hear
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Really happy for Furphy. Helps with wing recruiting and in general going forward.
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Trending well in the draft, could be invited to the green room
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Kugel sure had high upside and would have been fascinating to see him here but this is just another bullet dodged in the end. If you can’t even keep your academics in order, which the bar is so damn low for athletes to begin with, there’s more issues under the hood then Self needs.
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Agree with the above, B or C and keep options open for someone. Maybe there’s another Furphy out there.
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Shelby takes Kugels spot. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s best we can do at this point which seems like a low bar in itself. Perhaps there is one last trick to get a somewhat comparable talent in that can provide wing depth for this season.
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Didn’t see much of any in his freshman year. They won’t all be stars but taking a shot on a former Top 100 recruit doesn’t seem like the worst take. He wasn’t some unknown recruit without other offers either.

The funniest thing to me in Bill’s comments was him gassing everyone up except for when he said “and and and and Jamari McDowell is back”.
So telling!
Was a questionable take from the beginning imo.
How so? Wasn’t a star recruit, wasn’t expected to be a star in year 1 either.

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Nova makes a lot of sense but I wouldn’t want to play for that coach. Shocked they haven’t tried to upgrade
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Swain hasn’t mentioned that as of now. Don’t think we can land someone like him. He was a starter at Miami and is most likely looking for a starting spot somewhere.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Assuming Miya’s are more analytically driven?

247 final transfer rankings
#4 AJ Storr
#25 Zeke Mayo
#39 Rylan Griffen
#113 Riley Kugel

RE: Big-12 going to 20 game league schedule
Probably will change. I’d assume we get the toughest schedule once again especially when it comes to the Saturday/Monday games
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Yikes! Certainly not a fair trade no matter what way we look at it. Less headache is all I can see perhaps
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Sounds like Shelby will be a Jayhawk. Question will be whether he’s on scholarship or not…
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Yeah sounds like he’s had issues on bad teams and had a few outlier huge games against good teams (FAU, Memphis) but agree he’s a microwave kind of shooter you want off the bench.
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
@BShark said in Transfer Rumblings:
Jordan Ivy-Curry zoom call tomorrow. Perhaps a visit next week.
I like him. Had big games (and I understand volume was there) but he can score.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Portal over 2k entries. Portal Window is closed. Should see a few trickle in here and there. The only guys left will be those withdrawing from the NBA draft by end of month.
KU is still pursuing Jaxon Robinson & Jordan Ivy-Curry currently. Small committed to West Virginia so he wasn’t interested in winning. Still think we’ll push hard for a wing until they know on Kugel. The 13th spot could go to someone developmental or just a practice body.

RE: Tornados
Experienced this in Vermont a few weeks back (not tornado) but winds up to 70mph ripped my trampoline that was anchored into the ground and landed on top of my above ground pool, destroyed the trampoline, damage to the pool. Broken basketball hoop (shattered the backboard), broke 3 outside lights and several other things. I legitimately felt like the house was going to cave in and not a fun situation to be in. Can’t imagine with a Tornado near

RE: Early Hearings TM
Finally got that chip on his shoulder he didn’t have at Sunrise etc. These are dangerous kinds of players. I’ll remain out of the rabbit hole until we see it live but man I think he’s someone that may help this team win games.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Reminder May 1st is the deadline for transfers to enter, both undergrad and graduate. Will see some trickling in after the deadline (just means they weren’t announced in quick fashion) but at least there’s a finality to the chaos there.
-
RE: Early Hearings TM
Same. Still hopeful he is what I thought he was out of high school. Still shocked he’s coming back. Must have improved enough to change minds
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
New target- Jaxon Robinson from BYU. Some early interest on both sides. Will see where it goes
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Thinking if Kugel can’t come in you try… good player
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Miles Kelly from Georgia Tech in. Ideal wing.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Yep. Was just recapping for those not paying as close attention and it’s easy to lose the current pulse of things depending on the day
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Swain has mentioned an unnamed player could be in play for the 13th spot. He can’t share it yet but it also may be the name in the other thread. It’s not a “flashy name” but “could help down the line”. Stay tuned.
KU is working to figure out the Kugel situation. Both sides want him here.
They will look for another wing if no Kugel. Will be really hard to find anyone as good as Kugel tho
-
RE: 2025 Recruiting
Good one. Wouldn’t be surprised if Arky made those kind of pitches
-
RE: 2025 Recruiting
Yeah I can see the disappointment.
We don’t land these kind of recruits typically. Cal was heavily involved before he visited KU so regardless of a commitment this kid was still going to experience plenty of tampering.
I don’t see any reason to spend high level NIL on a High School point guard unlikely to be able to lead a Self team to a championship in likely his only yr in College.
We will see where it goes but this isn’t one to lose sleep over for next year’s class
