I see KJ getting ragged on quite a bit here. IMO, it’s completely unwarranted. What I saw last night, was a calming presence on the court when it mattered most. Obviously it was a team effort, but we do not win that game last night without KJ. I think he could be a solid 6th man next year. In college, he’s a stretch 3. He’s always has played in the shadow of DL and defers to him on the court unequivocally. When he does hunt his shot, he’s pretty effficent. I mean look at the stat sheet last night 16 min 4-6 on the floor, 2-2 from the line, 10 points 3 boards 0 To 0 pf. How is he the worst guy on a scholly? Curious to see what his development would be next year without DL. Regardless, I’d like to see him get more minutes, like at least 10-15 a game. He’s efficient and when the game was on the line, he seemed unfazed by the moment.

RE: Self on ncaa
There’s the ESPN alert… hopefully the more public this becomes the quicker we get an answer. On a side note, who holds this committee accountable??? IF the answer is no one, that needs to change ASAP. #FREECHEICK

RE: North Carolina
I didn’t watch the UNC UNI game, but I did see the highlight of the UNI player draining a 3/4ish court shoot at the buzzer to end the 1st half. Excuses can’t be made for loosing to a lesser opponent- even if it is on the road and your down your star PG. That being said, I am a firm believer in momentum, and I can only guess UNI took that high going into the 2nd half coupled with a home crowd to pull off the upset. The announcers just couldn’t help themselves either, first Kansas, now North Carolina-ughh gag me. Anyways, like I said, I didn’t watch, so I can’t sit here and critique or be overly critical of UNC… They should have won, they didn’t-now they can go home and watch hours of game film analyzing it for themselves. When it comes to OUR loss against MSU, I’m not upset, not in the least bit, that we lost. Ultimately, I think it is a humbling defeat at the beginning of a long season against a top-tier program on a nationally televised platform that came down to the wire where really, every team in the top 10 has a legit shot at cutting down the nets come March. Coming off the WUG games, maybe Self felt this team needed to be upstaged and it’s all part of the “bigger picture.” Again, I’m not upset we lost. There was no punch to the stomach, no reality check like last year against UK. However, I am CONCERNED about how PT is being divvied up. A quick check to the box score shows me Devonte Graham played more minutes than anyone on the team. More than Mason and Ellis (38-34-34 respectively), Mickelson saw 3 minutes of PT, and Greene logged 9. I am not a DG hater and I know games aren’t played in a vacuum, but Greene scored 6 points off ZERO shot attempts in 9 minutes. Imagine what he could have done had he seen 15-20 mins. The numbers he has put up in the first two games really stand out to me, and they should stand out to anyone with even a moderate level of basketball IQ. There are minutes to go around. And at this point, I don’t see why anyone deserves more than 30 minutes/game outside Ellis and Mason. I’m not calling for Self to be fired or move on (overreact much?), but if this is the beginning of a deeper trend I can’t help but sit here and say that I don’t find it alarming or I’m not worried about the long-term implications for this season. RE: It was a good run. Thank you Jayhawks.
I was thinking about this last night. In my mind, nothing has changed. I didn’t think we’d win this game anyways. Seeing KU come out that flat is disappointing, especially given how well we had been playing and on extra rest. You’d have thought we would come out with a little more gusto. You’d of that thought, right?
Is it possible Self sent KU out flat against Tech and just threw in the flag before the game even started? Did we even spend the week preparing for Tech? In reality, we faced a team that hadn’t beaten us at home in almost a decade, we already beat in Lawrence, and in front of a sold out home crowd in prime time…Do we really want to burn ourselves out in a game we could still loose and then turn around and play KSU at home?
Obviously, we still need things to fall our way but in the four remaining games, we have our 2 toughest at home. In my mind, KSU’s games against Baylor and TCU are no gimmies. Both teams still have opportunities to vastly improve their line with the selection committee. Baylor and TCU could be ranked by the end of the season if they close well. Point is, these teams are playing for more than finishing 6th or 7th in the Big 12.
All that being said, we have to beat KSU on Monday. I’m picturing this awesome hype video documenting the “miracle moments” we’ve had over the years to keep the streak going. Flash forward into some nice highlights from this season, and then ending with the Avengers Infinity war scene were Dr. Strange is like, there’s only one outcome where we win, Lawrence erupts! Wish I knew more about video production… All I’m saying is it’s not over folks. Anyone throwing in the towel today is doing so prematurely. The streak could still end, and it may. But, there are still meaningful games left to be played. Let’s see them play out. Thank you, that is all. Rock Chalk.

RE: Victims?
I love how it’s Kansas setting the precedent, but I’m a little disappointed with the figure. It kind of feels like this is/was done in cahoots with Adidas. I would think the negative publicity alone would be worth more than $1m. Still, it all but forces Gratto to sue Adidas. But who does Adidas sue? Nike/UA/etc for creating/contributing to the problem forcing Adidas to play the same game or go out of business?
The only way for any meaningful reform is more and more crazy, absurd, and asinine lawsuits where party A points the finger at University B, who points the finger at person C, who then points the finger at shoe company D, who ultimately points the finger at institution NCAA. The more absurd these get the better! It will only will shine a light onto how corrupt and ridiculous the NCAA really is. What kind of things would we learn about in a “discovery” file on the NCAA? Do they not have a secret or two they want left locked up? I really hope this turns into the South Park Episode, “Everyone vs. Everyone.” That would be hilarious!

RE: Barometer On The Jayhawk Nation
I’m not ready to pull the plug on the streak. At least tie or better Wooden before you throw in that towel. Seriously, what’s 2-3 more seasons? Giving up now is similar to swimming 3/4 the way across a lake only to turn around and swim back because your tired. I personally don’t quite understand the logic. Plus, if a Bill Self team makes it to the final 4, all things considered, wouldn’t you expect them to own the regular season during conference play? And when I say own, I mean Soren Petro KU’s your daddy own the conference. Get 13.

RE: Insanity?
Anyone calling for Self to quit, retire, or hypothesize that Duke is his next coaching venue is nuts. For starters, who out there (that is available) would you want to bring in to fill the vacancy. This list is short and includes no one. The only thing that could rival the feeling I felt last year after the blowout loss to Kentucky would be Self announcing that he is retiring, going to the NBA, or moving on to another college team (like what???). I can’t even begin to think of anyone out there I would want to replace him, so please… lay off the caffeine and sugar. It’s one game. I’m as troubled as the next “concerned citizen” about what happened after the MSU game, but the season just started. There are many more games to be played, we are still in great position to take the Big12, and have a great shot at being a 1-2 seed in the big dance. When that doesn’t happen, start a thread about how the sky is falling. Until then, let the man with more conference titles then home losses throw some pixie dust on it and see what happens.

RE: KU fears investigation case due to Silvio De Sousa eligibility.
As frustrating as it is to see all this negative publicity surrounding KU, any future assumptions about what may or may not transpire are incredibly premature. We have no clue what is going to come out of the Nike trial (i.e. who is implicated, to what degree). While it sucks beyond belief that Adidas/KU were up first, I find it hard to believe the level of incriminating evidence that comes to light during the Nike school trials will not at the very least be the same and potentially worse.
I know there is nothing supporting this but… we all know the adage “save the best for last.” Was it just was a coin toss as to how/why Adidas went first? Appetizers are served before dinner and dinner before dessert. I would think the Nike trials are where the FBI ties a nice bow around their however long/however costly investigation into the underbelly of college basketball.
Either way truehawk93, what else can the Nike schools do but operate as business as usual. They don’t know WHAT the FBI knows, so to act unusual/irrational would almost undoubtably be an implication of guilt. They are lucky in that they get to play this season without their school/coaches/players being part of the 24 hour news cycle because nothing has been released to the public. Or maybe… the NCAA comes down hard when scores of players are found to have been compromised during the Nike-run AAU circuits. We did hold out SDS after his “situation came to light.” Would we have if not for the investigation? How many Nike schools are potentially playing a kid whose name just hasn’t been made public yet?
Anyways, I’m sitting back and counting down the days until it’s Nike’s turn. Popcorn ready!

The NCAA is a joke. Poor Larry, always getting the short end of the stick… somethings never change.

RE: It was a good run. Thank you Jayhawks.
@HighEliteMajor I always agreed with Jaybate on this. Maybe Self didn’t “send them out flat,” but if the weeks preparation centered on KSU, then it would be pretty clear what the message was.
Regardless, you’re almost making my point for me with your comment about this team being fragile-which i agree. Of the remaining games of the season, this game had the highest degree of difficulty. If I’m Self, I’m just not wasting my energy on this game. Because if we do loose in spectacular fashion (a la on a last second buzzer beater of a highly fought and contested game), the potential exist to go on a 2-3 game skid. Either way, there are still some meaningful games to be played. Should be a fun!

RE: Other Games Tonight
@jayballer73 agreed, no gimmes, but that doesn’t really bother me. Would you rather play them at home than in Waco…? Like the announcers said, they win tonight and they are all but guaranteed entry into the dance. That’s big! As a player,if you can’t get up for that you don’t deserve to be on the court. I. haven’t watched a ton of BU ball this year, but they played like it was do-or die. Baylor likely parlays this into a nice little run, but do they have enough gas in the tank to upset KU in Lawrence, on “senior night” nonetheless?”

RE: Other Games Tonight
@BShark if he finishes 4-1 hard to argue with that. He seemed very loose in his post game interview. Never seen that side of him.

RE: Other Games Tonight
@kjayhawks I refuse to believe that. Weber had to play Wade against WV. If you ever dealt with or know anything about foot injuries, they tend to linger. Maybe not in the moment, but the next day and beyond. I guarantee you he didn’t want to play Wade as much as he did in Morgantown. He may not wear down against us, but I’d be surprised if he closed the season out on strong note. Be even more surprised if he plays significant minutes in the NCAA beyond the sweet 16- should them make it that far which I fully expect them to. We’ll see. Should be fun!

RE: Other Games Tonight
WOW! Baylor played like a team possessed tonight! Glad we got them at home to end the season. Might be (significantly more) worried if they felt like they had an NCAA birth on the line to end the season.

RE: Will KU Win Out To At Least Share The Title?
I think that’s a mistake. I believe Stoke is playing. Probably referring to Cartier and Wade.
