The next KU basketball class is ridiculous. KU’s only top 100 guy left and Self hasn’t signed one since. Is everyone in the top 100 drinking the Kool-Aid? My take on this is that they are all on the take or someone would have committed already. I get it no one wants to come to KU and get the De Sousa treatment from the NCAA! Adidas, and its affiliates have ruined KU’s next class and possibly our streak of conference titles!

RE: Where does Les Miles rank among the best coaches?
Our past 3 coaches could not have brought in the top notch assistant coaches he is bringing in either. I am waiting for the first of the 4-5 star recruits to start trending to KU. At LSU he consistently had 10 recruits in the top 200. Lets just hope he can produce those kind of numbers here? His coaching staff is excited about recruiting so I have to believe that they think KU can recruit at a high level. I live in TX and lets just say KU and Les Miles is being heard loud and clear! Everyone in my town has asked me what I think? They would prefer that KU stay away from TX kids or should I say Miles stay out of TX…

I thought I would throw some more fuel on the Football Fire we have started here. I am a HUGE believer that you can not have a successful sports team without a great coach. I expect great things from KU next year!
I like to think that most of us here at Buckets have criticized Coach Self for his coaching style and how he keeps his freshmen on a short leash. I remember reading posts about how he doesn’t let freshmen play through their mistakes. I remember us all pissing our pants over him keeping Udoka in during the Poke a Doke scandal. Just like here at KU we expect our basketball team to play for a national championship every year. Do you remember the desperation when KU lost 3 straight a few years ago? Remember how frustrated our fan base was when Roy could not bring our basketball team a NCAA championship? The change in scenery for old Roy was good for 2 rings.
Now as for the change in scenery for Coach Miles. There is not a coach in our conference who can out coach him IMO. I looked at OU on 247 sports and they have quite a class this year. Coach Miles has his work cut out for him but lets not forget about the fact that he can coach. Coach Self has been outcoached many times by the likes of VCU and others with a les talented roster.
Get ready to enjoy KU Football while we are lucky enough to have one of the greats leading the way! Buy your tickets and get out to a game while it lasts! I know I will!

RE: Les Miles Coaching Staff
https://www.ksal.com/miles-tabs-chip-lindsey-to-lead-the-kansas-offense/
Lindsey’s 2015 Golden Eagle offense ranked fifth in the nation in total touchdowns, seventh in total points, eighth in total passing yards and completions, and 12th in points per game and passing yards per game. The 2015 Golden Eagles tallied more than 4,200 passing yards and just under 2,500 rushing yards. The national leader with 102 explosive plays, they were just the second school in FBS history with a 4,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard receiver and two 1,000-yard rushers.
In 2017, Auburn became just the eighth team in SEC history and the first in Auburn history to rush and pass for 3,000 yards in a season. The Tigers also ranked 26th nationally in total offense and set an Auburn record scoring 327 points in SEC play, winning the SEC West. All-SEC quarterback Jarrett Stidham, the second Auburn QB ever to throw for 3,000 yards in a season, led the SEC and ranked ninth nationally in completion percentage. Running back Kerryon Johnson was SEC offensive player of the year, and Ryan Davis set an Auburn receiving record with 84 catches.
I sure hope he can bring some of that to KU ASAP!!!

RE: Les Miles Coaching Staff
Chevis Jackson is a rising star on the recruiting trail he took home 247Sports’s Mid-American Conference Recruiter of the Year in 2017. Great start for Miles going after one of the top young recruiters out there. Mid-America recruiter of the year? When Les Miles says he is going to focus on getting guys in a 500 mile radius of KU he grabs one of the up and coming recruiters out there that has already been in touch with and in the homes of most of the talent in the mid-America region… Nice job Coach!

RE: The Shoe Co
@mayjay No schools were offering anything but the shoe companies were. The wire tap proves that money was going to change hands at some point. Adidas lost the battle so he went to the highest bidder. That bidder then had him choose a school affiliated with their product.

@Statmachine Solid work. Zero chance that any top nike recruit goes to UK or Duke or even UNC & AZ without getting some sort of under the table benefit from it. Zero chance.
The reason for my post wasn’t that no kids would attend UK or Duke without some under the table benefit. My point is that if Adidas was going to pay a Kids parents, provide housing, and a comfortable job then I personally think that there would have to be a counter offer. Zion for example, there are recordings that his parents were asking for under the table benefits so its easy to conclude that they took the highest offer. It had nothing to do with where he wanted to attend his one year in school. No one is talking about how Zion turned down cash, housing, jobs to attend Duke are they? My question is why aren’t they? Lets not focus on KU and the recorded phone calls lets talk about how much Nike ponied up to keep Zion from committing to KU?

Excellent information.
I would offer that the shoe companies are not corrupt at all. They are in business to make money and further their brand. They are great companies. I have seen nothing really anywhere that indicate they are corrupt. They have a duty to their shareholders.
The corruption lies with the schools, coaches, players, and parents/guardians. They violate the rules. They are the only ones that can be punished by rules violations (parents/guardians by punishment to the player they are interested in). Further, the schools are the NCAA, they determine policy. So any lax enforcement is on the schools.
I also have trouble using the word “corruption” when it is solely internal rules violations. But it seems to work here.
Leaving 20k cash in a hotel in Vegas sure seems corrupt to me? If I go in and purchase 20k in chips in Vegas and leave it in your room and claim I lost it in the casino and you claim it as winnings then is that corrupt? That is how I have heard most of these transactions are completed.

After reviewing the https://247sports.com recruiting rankings and just looking at the top 15 prostects in each class over the last 5 years. These are the guys I would think were worth the investment if the shoe fits? These kids are the 6 figure kids. I have not put any thought into how it works below the 6 figure kids yet.
If you were to say that Nike is about 5 times larger than Adidas based on the information I provided you would be accurate. It equates to 2 schools I will call the flagships for Nike. 1 shcool for Adidas. Nike takes this TOP tier of players and distributes them out over 2 schools. It would look really suspicious if ALL of the top 15 guys went to the same school so they have a couple teams. Adidas just puts everyone they can get their hands on to KU. Over the last 5 years KU has added 8 recruits in the top 15. UK has added 21, and Duke 18 according to https://247sports.com. That is roughly 5 times more kids going to the Nike flagships. The majority of the 6 figure kids are going to these 3 schools. The rest are distrubited out to other schools at a MUCH lower rate. I have not researched my theory on these other schools but after texts that have been made public reciently these other 6 figure kids could be new contract incentives/extensions? Could just have a strong moral upbringing? Could have a faorite team? I bet you could link several of these kids to signing with a team around the same time their chosen school signed a new deal with a shoe co? I have not looked into that.
There was enough dirt dug up for anyone on this board to put this puzzle together. If someone really wanted to spend some time connecting the dots I be they could really figure out how corrupt this really is? The rest of the top 100 recruits in the country are probably a lot more of an incentives/extensions type of deal but Nike/Adidas ship yard have more ships. They still have to take care of the rest of the fleet. I am sure that there are similar things going on for the rest of the top 100 just on a smaller scale with a lower budget?

RE: The Disappointment.
I have not seen anyone post about who won the Zion lotto $$$? If he was wanting $$$ from adidas who won the battle? Why hasn’t the NCAA asked the question of How much money did Nike pay Zion’s family to go to Duke?
Duke University and Nike Inc. reached a 10-year sponsorship agreement that will supply all 26 of the Blue Devils’ athletics teams with uniforms, footwear, apparel and equipment.
If Money were an issue and his family was asking for it WHY would he go to duke for free??? How much were his parents paid? Come on! You expect us to believe that adidas was offering money and housing to attend KU and he went to Duke for free? From what I looked up and its public record his mother filed for bankruptcy a year ago or something like that. So if they were after a payday why go to Duke? I am sorry I think this goes hand in had with Clinton sayin if they take her down she would take half of congress with her. If they go after Self the whole establishment will go down too.
Again Why are there crickets on Dukes poster child. His parents didn’t turn down good jobs, free housing, and $20,000 because they liked Duke better than a free ride. No fn way!

RE: Coach's say KU " The Team "
@Kcmatt7 Duke is going to be scary. During their summer trip to Canada they had 2 guys average 29.7ppg! Williamson finished with (29.7 per game) and 35 boards (11.7 per game) for the entire Canada Tour. Barrett also end up averaging 29.7 points across the Blue Devils’ three summer exhibition games!

Next year will be extremely enjoyable to watch and I can not wait to get started!

RE: UNDEFEATED SEASON????
Where in the top 25 would KU’s b team be ranked? Does practicing against a top 25 b team every day prepare KU for a perfect season? On paper we should win every game by a wide margin so whos to say we don’t? I know its highly unlikely but still possible.

RE: NBA draft
Early Svi defensive notes:
- Closes out v well
- He’s exactly where you want him positionally like 95% of the time
- Tags roll men & recovers well
- I’m seeing him do a lot of talking & pointing to switch
- Defends w/feet, doesn’t commit dumb fouls on drives
- Hops around on D
-
RE: NBA draft
Svi’s catch & shoot open 3-point percentage by season: Freshman: 55% (on tiny sample) Sophomore: 53% Junior: 52% Senior: 55%
Did you all see this?

I love T-Rob. I truly think that his problem is that he is impatient. He thinks that he deserves pt. He makes comments like he would be the best rebounder in the NBA given the pt. He makes derogatory comments about the clubs he has played for like the 76ers. If he would have trusted the process he could still be on the 76ers roster but he made public demands to be traded because he wouldn’t buy in to losing. If he would just buy in to being a backup he would eventually play his way into being a starter. Its too bad that he is not in the NBA.

RE: Should Opponents Foul Doke Every Trip Down the Floor?
Doke has someone to push him to improve or he will not be playing. There is another 5 star big who will be chomping at the bit for pt. I think we see huge improvement in Doke this year.
-
RE: KU # 1 in pre seasons rankings for upcoming yr. Justified?
There are a lot of unknowns going into next season. Our coaching staff has done a good job getting guys to improve their 3 point shooting. Mason improved from a .327 to a .429 between freshman and sophomore year. Selden improved from a .328 to a .365 that same summer. Svi went from a .288 to a .402 between his 1st and 2nd year. One of our incoming freshmen could also have a great 3 point shooting year? Grahams freshman year he shot a .425 from 3 point land. Jackson shot .378 his freshman year too. Who is to say that Grimes and Dotson can not be similar to Graham and Jackson? If Garrett is putting up 1000 shots a day his numbers will improve. From everything I have read most of our bigs can stretch the floor out to the 3pt line too. I am optimistic that our squad will be deadly at all 5 positions. From what I have heard from the guys everyone is improving and there has been no drop off in talent just an increase in depth so this team is primed and ready for another final 4 trip. I also heard that they could go with 4 small guys and a big but it would be unfair given the talent and depth in the frontcourt so don’t expect to see it unless another team is running similar offense.
-
RE: Keegan Gushing Over McCormack
At least we do not have to worry about foul trouble this year! Keeping fresh legs on the floor is always a bad thing for opposing teams. I am ready for next season but I think I am going to enjoy my summer first lol
-
RE: HERES YOUR MYSTERY RECRUIT... .LEGERALD VICK!!!!! LOL
I believe Vick is gone. I could be wrong but Self has shown high level prospects the door before. Bragg, Greene, and Tharpe came in and left under the same conditions and all 3 have had problems. AW3 was the only guy that left and was successful BUT he wasn’t shown the door, he just wanted PT and was recruited over.
-

I think Udoka will do better than 37% from the free point line

RE: Draft Declarations Thread
Many of us speculated that there was some drama between Newman, and Svi last year. If I had to guess I would have to believe Vick played a big part in our chemistry problem last year? No one really knew what was going on BUT if Vick has been showed the door he must have played a part in our troubles last year? Just a guess… Maybe we should just wish him well and move on?

BigBad said: Very good college player but there is a reason he played 4 years in college.
JJ Redick and Kyle Korver both played 4 years in college and are both in the NBA. Both have ben in the rotation for over 10 years. What I am saying is Svi has just as much potential as either one of those 2.
-
RE: Dok
So wingspan determines if you are good enough for the NBA? Why even have the combine? Just go out and find the biggest wingspan guys on earth. They don’t even have to know what basketball is.
-
RE: Dok
Kyle Korver Aug 29, 2008, 10:02 pm Overview:One of the games top spot up shooters. Pretty average in terms of strength, athleticism and wingspan for his position, but has good size for a shooting specialist. Has proven himself to be one of the most efficient spot up shooters in the NBA. Saw his minutes drop after being traded in 2008, but became much more efficient under Jerry Sloan. Possesses one of the purest strokes in the game. Not a factor in many other ways, but gives a better effort defensive and shows more hustle than most other specialists. Had a very nice four year career at Creighton. Improved his numbers in each of his collegiate seasons. Garnered the Missouri Valley Conference Most Valuable Player Award as a junior and senior. Has always been a dominant shooter, but was able to showcase some other skills on the collegiate level. Garnered a spot late in the second round as a shooting specialist and turned out to be a steal. Had a tremendously productive four year stint with the 76ers before being traded in his fifth year to the Jazz. Regarded as one of the games best specialists. Younger brothers Klayton, Kaleb, and Kirk have, are, or will be Division I basketball players. - Source: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Kyle-Korver-3204/ DraftExpress

RE: Draft Declarations Thread
@jayballer73 I have been saying it all along. No game outside of 5ft, poor conditioning, and he was 0-4 from the charity stripe in his combine scrimmage. He is still young and has time to improve his all around game. If I remember right Robinson practiced with the bigs and the guards to round out his game. So far Dok has put on a clinic on what not to do at the combine. I am hopeful he is encouraged by the feedback he receives and gets back to campus and gets to work. If he uses this summer to improve on his all around game he will be even more valuable next season for KU.

Newman neither helps nor hurts his stock with his measurements. He needs to defend this week at the combine.
I believe he hurt his stock. His 16/17 body fat was 5.6 and is now 6.25. His standing vert was 30.0 and is now 27.5. His max vert was 35.5 and is now 33.5. If I were Andrea Hudy I would be alarmed.
I couldn’t find all of the stats for Svi but he did drop from 11.4% body fat down to 8.45%. I couldn’t find his standing and max vert? He is also down 8lbs so he should jump higher? Dok will be back and is using his invite to the combine to gather info as to what he needs to work on b4 next year. If Self thought Silvio would be ruled ineligible then he would have declared for the draft. Both should be back. Moore is a stud and I have posted my thought on that b4.

RE: Dok
Idk? Dok is the same age as bol bol and would be ranked in the top 10 of this years hs recruiting class if he were still in hs. He is far from a complete product. There is still plenty of room for improvement imo. He needs to come back and work on his conditioning and the rebounds will come.
