    • Day dreaming about next years team

I cant help but to think ahead about what’s to come. Next year KU will actually have a title contender, a Goliath, a juggernaut or what ever you would like to call it?

Udoka Azubuike is already a beast averaging 14pts, and nearly 8reb per game. Good news for KU is that the NBA isn’t drooling over him due to his lack of conditioning and his lack of scoring outside of 4ft. The reality is he needs more time at KU before his NBA debut which benefits KU greatly because at the collegiate level he can easily over power opposing bigs. Opposing defenses will not be able to target him next year either because he will have another BEAST starting along side of him in the paint.

Dedric Lawson Led the American Athletic Conference in rebound average at 9.9 boards per game. His 19.2 scoring average was second in the conference. Recorded 19 double-doubles on the season. Had 14 games of 20 or more points. Pulled down 10 or more rebounds 20 times. Led Memphis with 68 blocked shots. These 2 starting bigs will be like a college version of Pelicans big-duo Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins in terms of dominating the paint.

K.J. Lawson Earned AAC Rookie of the Year honors and was a member of the AAC All-Rookie Team. He averaged 12ppg, 8rpg, and recorded nine double-doubles which were second most on the team behind his brother Dedric’s. Coach Self has said that he was the most impressive/surprise player in practice. He did put up some impressive numbers as a freshman before his medical rs. As far as maturity on a basketball level he would be a senior without his medical rs and sitting this year at KU had he stayed at Memphis. He should have the mechanics and playbook down along with 2 summers with Hudy. He is my pick for the biggest surprise player on our team.

Pick your poison at the 2 spot? Newman , Grimes, or Garrett? I hope Newman stays. I honestly don’t know who will start but we have a log jam here and Garrett could fill in at the 3 spot. Will Self elect to put Garrett at the 3 and have 3 ball handlers on the floor or play a bigger line up by putting him at the 2? Self will have plenty of options at his disposal. I didn’t even mention Cunliffe or Vick. If Vick stays OMG it will be Nuckin Futs and if he leaves and we land Langford HOLY SMOKES!

At the PG position we have 2 options Charlie Moore, and Devon Dotson. Moore had a pretty impressive Freshman year at Cal and started in all 34 contests. He was Cal’s freshman record holder for assists (120) and three pointers made (45), sixth for points (414) and seventh for free throws made (99). Dotson is tearing it up this year and moving up Draft boards to a OAD status. Who gets the nod?

All 3 freshmen coming in are McDonald’s All-Americans and Silvio De Sousa will have half a year in the system. Next year is KU’s best shot (if Doke and Newman stay) at being the first to go 40-0 and win the whole enchilada. KU should be the favorite to win it all right out of the gate!

I LOVE the questions where you can fill in the blank! I always reply with something completely nasty! Yester day I had a Question asking what I looked for in a Dandruff shampoo? There were 4 boxes you could click OR answer a fill in the blank. I answered with the following “It must make the hair on my dogs testicals soft, shiny, and flake free”.

Tonight and until every last 7’ footer signs with a program I need everyone to say a little prayer that we land 1 or 2 guys that fit HCBS hi low offence so we don’t have to continue to watch BAD BALL!!! Please dear Lord send us some help on the front court!!! Someone that can catch an inlet pass back to the basket turn and shoot! Some one that played volleyball and soccer until they were 7’ foot and too tall to play either sport. Someone that can learn HCBS ball in one short summer and be ready to dominate the big12 and stay for 2-3 years… AMEN

    • RE: To Boot Camp or to not Boot Camp. That is the question.

The NBA plays up to 80 games per season and have to stay in that kind of shape during the off season so depending on when you make the jump to the NBA you have to be ready to play at that level. In the NCAA these kids only play 30 or so games so I cant imagine that its going to take a huge toll on our guys? I used to play from the time I woke up until the street lights came on all summer long and never skipped a beat in fact I NEVER remember being too tired or sore to do it all over again the next day! These guys are young and their bodies can handle this type of conditioning BUT they are playing nearly every day atm. I think they will get rested up after the WUG and then its back to business as usual. They are missing some pieces that they will have to build the same chemistry with for next season so Boot Camp is probably still a viable option.

    • RE: To Boot Camp or to not Boot Camp. That is the question.

When I joined the Marine Corps I ran 3-5 miles and lifted weights every day of the year. I played pick up most nights or pretty much any competitive sport. I was in the best shape of my life. I may be bias but I believe having the drill instructors back to campus (if they do that again) will only help our guys bond and build more chemistry. I think playing the regular season schedule is not as demanding as playing in the big 12 tournament and then the NCAA tournament. Their going to get tired playing for days straight at the end of the season regardless of how much they play this summer.

Alexander’s problem was court awareness. He didn’t know where he was supposed to be on the court when our PG called out plays. When HCBS is calling a set play from the bench and you are to stupid to figure out what play is being called or where to place your self you get to sit and think about it for a while. He was actually just starting to figure it out when everyone found out about his off the court issues. Another year would have done him wonders. All of these kids coming out of high school say the same thing “I didn’t know there was this much more to basketball”. Vick and Bragg said they were learning new stuff daily when they were interviewed just before the WUG.

@KUSTEVE word on the street is… Coach Self said KU is willing to spend whatever it takes to get you cleared. If we are going to make that kind pf commitment to you we need you to commit to playing one year for us. If you are not cleared you suit up for 2018-2019. So the ball is in Robinsons court. He either plays for KU or goes abroad. It would mess up recruiting and KU’s basketball program would spend alot money getting him cleared. I think he will announce soon but he has to make up his mind and the sooner he does the sooner KU can start the paperwork to get him cleared.

Each time Brannen Greene played double digit minutes last season his production was great. In the 7 games he played double digit minutes he averaged 10.7 minutes and 5.4 ppg. Give Greene the 32.8 MPG Wiggins left behind and Greene averages 16.55 ppg (last year). I believe Sophomore Greene could average more points than Freshman Wiggins or Freshman Oubre (if he is afforded the opportunity). One would think that with a full year in the KU system Greene would have a better all around game including defence (over Oubre) but I suppose only time will tell. If history has anything to do with who gets to start I would put my greenbacks on Greene (write that down lol).

    • The basketball gods are with us

Our guys are ironing out all the wrinkles. Day by day they are learning. You can see them progressing nearly every game. You can see the cream rising to the top. Our rotation is becoming more defined each game. Our 3pt % from our 2 PG’s and Greene are outstanding and probably make the best 3pt trio in college basketball if they can maintain it until march! If you look at Ellis and Alexander you see a high shot percentage and Alexander’s ppm is super high! I have no idea how HCBS is going to work in all of our guards but the guys that are not knocking down 3’s better start spending time shooting more 3’s. That is going to be this teams identity with Ellis hanging out on the perimeter and our C walking their man out to the free throw line for the inlet pass, long rebounds, and put backs!

Oh yeah this is a good article too!

      http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/11/self-says-no-10-kansas-is-not-good-right-now-and-that-should-scare-you/

Over the next 3 games we will play 3 more top 100 opponents and will have played the toughest schedule to date! According to yahoo RPI Temple and Lafayette are in the top 100. Utah is going to be another close one IMO but I suppose we will see? Our guys are going to go into our conference battle tested more so than anyone! That is what’s going to make the difference. I like to watch us kill cupcakes but I think this is the way to go about business, Even though is not easy to watch our guys down by 18 against Florida and all of the close games that have had me screaming at the television set like an idiot! This is going to get us ready for another match up with UK and I know we are all ready for that rematch!

      http://dbduckworth.sportsblog.com/posts/2659861/2016-nba-draft-top-5-prospects.html

      Cheick Diallo 6’10 - PF - Kansas

A world class athlete among world class athletes. He is literally shot out of a cannon running up and down the floor. He runs the floor better than any player that I can recall. He is not super skilled but he is graceful and he knows how to finish. He rebounds like Dennis Rodman and he could be that type of player. To say he is an effort player would be discounting the effect that he can have on a game. If there is loose ball he will get it, if there is a fast break he will be the first guy down the floor, get sloppy with the ball and he will take it from you. You don’t have to run any plays for him and he will still find a way to get 20 & 10 with offensive rebounds and run outs.
