RE: Picking the mind of KU fans
Last ten NC and how they did in reg season conference play.
Duke 2014-15 did not win it.
UConn 2013-14 did not win it.
Louisville 2012-13 did in a three way tie.
Kentucky 2011-12 did with ease.
UConn 2010-11 didnât win it. Finished 9th.
Duke 2009-10 shared with Maryland.
North Carolina 2008-09 did.
Kansas 2007-08 shared with Texas.
Florida 2006-07 did win it.
Florida 2005-06 did not win the east division.
In the last 10 years 6 of the NCs did win it. Three of those six shared it with at least one other team.

RE: #DialloFreed
I have no quarrels with punishing those that break the rules. I do have issues with the repeated inconsistent punishments by the NCAA. Who comes up with this crap? Do they spin a wheel?? 7 games for $165 in one case and 2 games for $800 in another.
-
RE: Diallo is Cleared! Now what?
Iâd love for those that enjoy backing the senseless organization we call the NCAA to explain this ruling. How are they not completely and utterly horrible at doing their jobs?? $165 equals 7 (5 reg, 2 ex) games. John Wall had to pay back $800 and missed two games (one of those an exhibition game!!!). The NCAA is a complete joke. Not even close to what you could call a consistent punishment.
-
RE: WHAT'S YOUR WORST SPORTS NIGHTMARE?
Conferences break away from the hated NCAA and KU is on the outside looking in.

RE: Brannen Greene
0.08, 0.09, or 0.16. Over the legal limit is over the legal limit. Be it double or by a 0.01. Intoxicated is intoxicated. Itâs against the law. Canât argue that fact. Did his passing of the sobriety test change the fact that he was still breaking the law?
40 games in basketball if you make it to the final game of your conference tournament and the NCAA finals. Brady missed 9. KU played 36 that season. He missed a fourth of the games.
Ohio State can play a total of 15 games. 12 reg season. One conf championship. Two in the playoffs. Barrett will have missed 1/13, 1/14, or 1/15. But itâs ok because heâs a kid. And kids are invincible. And he didnât kill an innocent bystander, this time. And he canât get into an accident because it was only 0.01 over the legal limit.
-
RE: Brannen Greene
Are you down playing drunken driving? I can guess you have never had someone taken from you by an intoxicated driver. And your casual ways about it also make me think you drive under the influence. Barrett is only 20 years old. Legal drinking age is 21 last time I checked. Urban went easy on him like JRyman said. Brady Morningstar was 36 when he got his DUI at KU. He missed more than a game. Thatâs a punishment that fits the crime.
And the whole taking the summer semester from him! Oh no! Heâs a red shirt sophomore which means he can declare for the draft if heâs stock is high enough. C Jones is going to declare and Barrett beat him out so whatâs to stop his people from hyping him in to declaring and forgoing his last two years?
-
RE: Brannen Greene
I donât think it was that out there. If it was then why was there any speculation on the why of his suspension? I know it started on the bench and then the locker room but he wasnât micâed up for it. Do you know what BG said exactly? Anyone that hasnât been under a rock the last two days knows what Elliott said.
-
RE: Crystal Ball
I consulted the magic eight ball and it told me âask again laterâ. Updates to come.
-
RE: Brannen Greene
E. Elliot the RB from tOSU calls out Urban and Co in the national media and gets zero games on the pine. BG does it behind closed doors and gets slapped with SIX. Legit.
-
RE: Brannen Greene
@Crimsonorblue22 Yea it does work both ways but Self and Co offer the scholarships to these kids that donât fit in to his preferred system. If they didnât target square pegs and then offer them the scholarships there wouldnât be one to accept. And youâre right, Greene and White should have known better but the effects of KU offering you a scholarship has to cloud your judgement
-
RE: THE WORD IS OUT: SELF STILL AT .821 AT KANSAS
81.2% looks great until you realize that itâs 73.23% in the last two seasons. And without Diallo we are the same team as last year.
-
RE: Brannen Greene
Why recruit players like White, Greene, Svi, CF, Galindo if we arenât going to use their talents. KU needs to focus their recruiting efforts on players that actually fit the system. Stop going after the cream of the crop because theyâre the best and instead get guys that are the best high low ballers. The Big12 football coaches donât recruit smash mouth players because the Big12 is an air it out conference. So why does KUMBB go after three ballers when itâs fools gold?!? Next time I beg that Self passes on that highly touted sharp shooter and saves us the misery of watching them ride the pine.

RE: Self's Comments on Diallo Situation
From what I hear this is just the NCAA doing their job. I mean come on Bill Self, have you never applied for a car loan from the devil himself? Or went to the DMV and got a drivers license from Hitler? This is just proper procedure and protocol, or so weâve been told.

RE: Anyone else see? Another one cleared, by the NCAA
One way to guarantee a spot at KU is by meeting our assured admission criteria:
21+ ACT (980+ SAT) and 3.25+ GPA or 24+ ACT (1090+ SAT) and 3.0+ GPA 2.0+ GPA (2.5+ for out-of-state students) in a college-prep curriculum If applicable, achieve a 2.0 GPA or higher on any college credit taken in high school.
NCAA Student-Athlete Eligibilty
Student-Athlete Eligibility Academics
Incoming student-athletes in Divisions I and II are subject to academic initial-eligibility standards, which take into account standardized test scores, number of core courses taken in high school and the grades earned in those core courses. In addition to NCAA requirements, they also must also meet the unique acceptance requirements of the university they plan to attend (those requirements may exceed NCAA standards).
Division I student-athletes are also subject to progress-toward-degree rules that require them to advance toward graduation each year.
You must graduate high school and meet ALL the following requirements:
Complete 16 core courses: Four years of English Three years of math (Algebra 1 or higher) Two years of natural/physical science (including one year of lab science if your high school offers it) One additional year of English, math or natural/physical science Two years of social science Four additional years of English, math, natural/physical science, social science, foreign language, comparative religion or philosophy Earn at least a 2.0 GPA in your core courses. Earn an SAT combined score or ACT sum score matching your core-course GPA on the Division I sliding scale, which balances your test score and core-course GPA. If you have a low test score, you need a higher core-course GPA to be eligible. If you have a low core-course GPA, you need a higher test score to be eligible.
NCAA Standards International Student
I speculate that most of this investigation revolves around his freshmen year in Mali. Since he wasnât in the USA during the academic year of 2011-2012, which would be his 9th grade year, he probably is lacking the required core classes the NCAA wants him to have. I also speculate that KU is arguing the classes he took during his 9th grade year are core classes in Mali. Iâm guessing he didnât take English 1, a staple of freshmen year courses in America, because he didnât speak English before coming to America. But did he backload his later years at OSNA? Iâd guess not because we are in this predicament now.
The latest NCAA handbook (2011) doesnât list Mali in it so there isnât a standard in place already. Or there wasnât in 2011-2012 when Cheick attended 9th grade. Getting things translated by certified translators Iâm sure takes time. How much time though?
My main frustrations are with the first two things I posted and a question Iâd love for someone to ask Self or our academic team. Did KU lower its admission requirements below what is required for any other applicant to allow Cheick to attend?? And if yes, a follow up of would KU have lowered them had he not been apart of the basketball team?? If they answer no to the first question then youâd have to wonder what the NCAA is actually doing and this is my hope. Because I donât want KU lowering standards for the sake of the basketball team. - although Iâm sure they have and do without our knowledge all the time!

RE: Something Fishy
Kanter played for a club in Turkey and had a salary not some random booster giving him cash in a mall parking lot.
-
RE: Something Fishy
In regards to the Kanter comment: Kind of hard to sweep 30 grand under the rug.
-
RE: Just a few musings.
I think the courses/classes offered at UNC during their scandal are the equivalent of Cheickâs 6th grade courses in Mali yet itâs been pretty damn silent on that subject.
At this point I have to say it is officially beyond ludicrous. 2 thousand pages? 6th grade transcripts?
Is this the plot to âBilly Madison 2â??? Does Cheick need to go back and retake each class for two weeks and then have a quiz off against Mark Emmert??
-
RE: Sources: Kansas' Cheick Diallo hires attorney for possible NCAA eligibility fight
Really the NCAA only has one completely logical thing it can do now and thatâs ask for transcripts from his Pre-K days. Itâs evident they must get their hands on the fingering paintings from the fridge. They need to know did he pick the right colors for that bear? Did he keep those colors in the lines?? How high could he count because we have standards for that too! Did he over sleep or under sleep at nap time!!! And did he put some letters backwards when doing his ABCs??

RE: Eligibility
From an ESPN article:
âThe NCAA agreed with Auburnâs self-report from Nov. 30, 2010, that Cecil Newton and the owner of a scouting service, Kenny Rogers, shopped Cam Newtonâs services to Mississippi State out of junior college, but that there was no evidence the player or Auburn knew about it.â
NCAA agreed with Auburnâs self-report that Cecil did shop Cam, just not to Auburn and with Camâs knowledge.
Neither Auburn or Cam knew his dad was shopping him.
Neither Kansas nor Cheick knew his class or classes werenât up to standards.
Both Auburn and Cam knew it would be against rules to give and take money for promise of a commitment.
Both Kansas and Cheick know there are NCAA admission standards.
I know one case is about pay for play and the other is about academics but both student athletes were/are in the dark on the issues that surrounded them. And thatâs the similarity. So why do you think that Cheick should be punished for things unknown to him and out of his control while the NCAA chose not to punish Cam??
If, and honestly at this point I think itâs only a matter of when, Cheick is ruled completely ineligible or as a partial qualifier (because thatâs the NCAA scapegoat in all of this) Iâll have no doubts the only true difference in the two cases is the wallets of the people that call the shots ($EC, E$PN, NikâŹ) and Cheick/Kansas/Self ainât greasing 'em.
-
RE: Eligibility
Glad I always kept my homework for up to five years after completing the class⌠Some of the requests are a bit out there
-
RE: Eligibility
Although different in nature my comparison of the Cam Newton scandal in which Camâs father and another gentleman tried to get Miss St to pay up for Camâs commitment all unbeknownst to Cam left him suspended for only one day. And it wasnât a game day. They ruled since Cam had no knowledge he should not be punished. The difference here, at the time all of this came to light Cam and Auburn were fattening the wallets of the NCAA, the SEC, ESPN, so on⌠Canât punish stars when theyâre lining your pockets!! Much like the tOSU tats scandal.
So yes there is a precedent regarding punishment for a student athlete when they werenât aware of the wrongdoing. But like I said above. Cam was leading the Auburn Tigers to the NC and the NCAA doesnât want to jeopardize the product they have on the shelf. Because who the hell wants to watch Cam Newtons back up play for an SEC title??
-
RE: Eligibility
If Diallo were entering Med school that means he already has a college degree or 100 plus college hours so no we wouldnât be talking about this.
Is there evidence that CD knew his Algebra classes were bogus prior to his final semester at OSNA?
Is there evidence that KU lowered the admission standards for CD?
-
RE: Eligibility
One could liken the Diallo case to Cam Newtons. Now itâs not Apples to Apples but Camâs defense was he didnât know his dad was shopping him. So if Diallo is ruled ineligible are we to assume that CD knew his Algebra classes werenât up to par?
We were all 14 and 15 at one time. And I know some 14-15 year olds are the exception, like jfan, but can we say for certain that Diallo knew which core classes were legit when he was a frosh and soph in school? For most of us, again we know jfan you are one of the exceptions, we wouldnât have the slightest clue. And we arenât talking about some bogus underwater basket weaving class or paper class that we all know is bogus. This was a core class offered by his school. Did I know which teachers were easier? Well yes. But did I know if my curriculum was NCAA worthy? No.
And jfan, you asked for examples of ineptness. I gave some. Do you think they handled those cases correctly??
-
RE: Eligibility
Do you really think that what Self is saying right now to the media is how he really feels?? HCBS canât say how he really feels about all of this because that could jeopardize the process. So of course heâs going to always say theyâre doing an amazing job and blow rainbows up asses. Iâm sure Cindy hears how he really feels when he gets home and goes to the garage to scream f u mfâers for thirty minutes.
As for CD. He is a top rated player. Top 5. Ben wasnât as highly ranked coming out of high school so of course he needed to stick around another year to prove himself. Diallo on the other hand has what the NBA covets. Potential. And honestly he needs to go. Because Joel.
And finally a paragraph from the IndyStar. - âStar players in the NCAA tournament are worth far more than their scholarships. The latest study of their true value was in The Atlantic, which estimated that the true value of freshman star Andrew Wiggins to Kansas was $575,565.â Thatâs why Diallo needs to go. So he can actually cash that check.

RE: Eligibility
UK case vs KU case are apples and oranges. You know that. UK was about the guardian shopping his player and not about education. They are inept because well you may not realize this but some kids only have 7 more classes before they take their finals. And at this rate Diallo and Yakwe might have their associate degrees before the ncaa finally makes a judgement.
And like I said before. The NCAA holds very little power. We need to get rid of them and install a new governing body that can enforce actual rules. Not just rulings on who gets to participate. My statement about the QB from tOSU⌠How can the ncaa claim to be the governing body when all institutions and conferences donât play with the same rules?? And when they do step in to punish tOSU (tats) they donât enforce it on the NCAA cash cow game but instead the following seasonâŚ? Or they over enforce and have to back track because they hold no legal authority.
Also have you heard any news on UNC fake classes?? I noticed UNC is ranked pretty high and a good UNC increases cash in the NCAAs money making sport so I donât imagine we will be hearing of any punishments.
See also: Miami. Syracuse. Louisville. Penn State. Manziel. Cam Newton⌠And so on.
Why are you such an apologist?
-
RE: Eligibility
If I were in his (CD) shoes there is no way I stick around for next season to play for free while the ineptCAA makes billions off of my back.
Itâs lovely how the ncaa has policy and procedure regarding eligibility for every single school yet no say in punishment for student athletes that get behind the wheel and drive impairedâŚ

One would have to question Selfs decision to keep him on staff if he canât land a single recruit this year. That would put him with 0 for this current class and our freshmen guys.

RE: Coach Howard's Future
Romello White is also considering Alabama. My guess is this is Snacks attempt at stealing one from them. I just hope someone explains to him that striking out on top 30s and picking up triple digits doesnât really get back at AJ and Bama.

RE: Odds On Diallo
The Eubanks deal stems from his time spent as a 9-11th grader at the prior high school American Heritage and not his time at OSNA that caused issues. He only spent his senior year at OSNA and thatâs when he committed to and then decommitted from Baylor. AH sent a transcript to OSNA when he attended there that had a GPA of 2.5. Then when he applied to Baylor OSNA sent their transcript with that AH one included. Well AH also sent their own to Baylor but this time he had a 2.37⌠NCAA red flagged that and he went to prep school⌠He spent last year at the Elev8 (formerly the Bucky Dent Baseball Academy) bball factory. Guess going to a joke of a prep school didnât help him fix those GPA issues.
I think that is why Self was happy getting Vick and KU backed way off of Eubanks. Add to that Davon Dillard gets cleared (aka the Okie lite kid) and all of this is probably why Self feels confident.
-
RE: Coach Howard's Future
With the latest on Bolden being courted by footballing Bama hereâs my opinion: if Snacks strikes out yet again he will be 0-2 against football school Bama. We canât seriously consider keeping this ârecruiting superstarâ around if heâs losing out to the football boys. If Bolden picks Duke thatâs fine. I expect to win some and lose some against them. Against Bama or Auburn or Texas A&M⌠Not unless itâs a home grown kid.
I get that he picked up Cliff but can we justify his job with one overrated pick up? If Cliff would have been the next LeBron he would have had a pass for another year. But he brought us Ryan Leaf. Itâs time for Howard to show us why Self brought him hereâŚ

RE: Not a positive outlook
Louisville. Michigan (for another yr or two), UCLA, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Wisconsin.
Not sure the shoe co.s have a lot of say in the football world. The AAU money laundering train for football is 7on7 which isnât as big, yet⌠The reason I donât think the shoe co.s have as much swing on the gridiron is Philâs home school has never been ranked in ESPNs top 10 since The Network started its Top300 10 yrs ago. Iâd think BigPhil would be able to sign his Waterfowls a top 10 class if NFL endorsement deals were worth it.
The problem I see is what big item do the basketball players have that the football guys donât?? The shoes! Itâs all about the sneakers and sneakers with spikes arenât everyday wear. Plus most of us canât and or donât play pick up football but we can and do for bball.

KU athletes are getting a pay increase
Anyone read Keegs latest article about the increase in pay for the student athletes. But Keegs got lazy and didnât break it all the way down for us. Guess he is too busy watching the Kardashian showâŚ
Student athletes (SAs) living off campus will get a $1,230 check every academic month for a total of $12,300 per academic year to cover room, board and living expenses. This year they are tacking on another $364 per month or $3,640 per year. In total thatâs nearly $16,000 ($15,940) for the entire academic calendar year (10 months).
Per NCAA guidelines SAs can only participate in 20hrs of activities per week during the season (^1) and 8 hours per week in the off-season(^2).
Seasons are around 6 months long for the two major sports. Football is August to December or January. Basketball is October to March or April.
For the months that the SAs sport is in season they can work the maximum 20hrs each week. Six months is about 27 weeks. At 20 hours per week the total in-season hours worked equals 540.
In the off-season if the SA again works that maximum number of hours a week (8hrs) allowed for the finals 4 months (18wks) they would pick up an additional 144 hours.
Now add the off-season total to the in-season total to get the maximum hours worked by a SA and we get 684 total hours worked during the 10 month academic year.
To figure the hourly wage just divide the $15,940 by total hours of 684 and they get $23.30 per hour that they work.
Not too shabby for a college student.
Iâm sure their fellow students working at Target, Steak & Shake, for the University itself, ect. would love to make $23.30 with tuition paid.
1 - NCAA Bylaw 17.1.5.1 During the Playing Season A student-athleteâs participation in countable athletically related activities shall be limited to a maximum of four hours per day and 20 hours per week. For a multi-sport student-athlete, the daily and weekly hour limitations apply separately to each sport in which s/he participates.
2 - NCAA Bylaw 17.1.5.2 Weekly Hour Limitations-Outside of Playing Season Outside of the playing season during the academic year, only a student-athleteâs participation in the countable athletically related activities specified in Bylaws 17.02.1-(c ), 17.02.1-(d ), 17.02.1- (e ) and in Divisions I-A and I-AA football, participation in the countable athletically related activities specified in 17.02.1-(a)-(6) shall be permitted. A student-athleteâs participation in such activities shall be limited to a maximum of eight hours per week, of which not more than two hours per week may be spent on individual skill workouts set forth in Bylaws 17.02.1-(e ) and 17.1.5.2.1, and in Divisions I-A and I-AA football, the viewing of game film per 17.02.1-(a)-(6). A student-athlete may not participate in any countable athletically related activities outside the playing season during any institutional vacation period (e.g., summer, academic year).
