    • Josh Jackson deserves some defensive props vs Baylor

I just watched the game again for about the 5th time, someone on youtube has it cut down to 40 min so it is an easy watch. I believe JJ ended up w 1 rebound, seriously? 1? So I went back to watch to see how this happened, and when I did I see it is because JJ worked his tail off defending men much larger than himself.

When you are playing out of position and having to guard a 7 footer when you are only 6’8" your best friend in the post is to front side them and try to make them throw over you so help side defense can come over and maybe pick a pass or deflect the ball. I watched JJ on every single play, never took my eyes off of him and the man worked so hard. If you ever want to see what a one and done looks like who has “unpacked his bags” JJ is it. He never stopped fighting for position, he never let his man get him pinned down low, he was great at fronting his man.

The other thing he did so well on defense is his 4 blocks. First off he should have had 5 but one was called a foul and the replay showed a clean block. The thing that can go unnoticed if you just look at the box score is that those 4 blocks lets call it 5 were not against smaller guards, 3 of them were against their 7 footer Lual-aciul, it would have been 4 against him if not for the foul. I mean cmon! that is impressive.

Jackson made his impact on offense w 16 however it took him 14 shots, most on the team, but his biggest contribution in this game was his effort on the defensive end!

Oh and I almost forgot, Jackson pulling off his man to double the shooter in the last few seconds was great defense as well.

    • World games impact on this years recruiting class

I just joined this sight…be easy on me if this has been a topic recently discussed.

I am very excited to have Bragg this coming season and as we know there are still top prospects unsigned. What is everyones opinion on how the added games of the World games this summer will help recruiting?

If I am a top ranked player with KU on my list and im looking for one school to set itself apart, what better recruiting tool for Self than to be able to say to these kids, you get 10 extra games this summer, against great competition and by the way every game is on espn2!

What top recruit who has nba hopes wouldnt love the idea of more games on TV when no other college players are getting to play?

IMO, this is one of the greatest recruiting gifts Self has this year and I expect another top recruit or two to committ.

      What does everyone else think?

I saw a special on BMAC last year that showed he moved somewhere close to 20 family members out to Sacramento and takes care of all of them. I would have loved for him to stay as well, but I do like hearing how he has such a big heart for his community and family and he is one early entry that I understood and he showed us why he choose to leave. Glad he is putting his millions to use and not wasting it like so many others do.

I am either overly optimistic and when KU gives me no reason to be I am overly sarcastic. To be optimistic, we yet again won another title, 11 in a row, we have a great kid running the point for two more years, we have extra games this summer, and we have a coach who runs a great system, the system however only works with the right players. Ellis is not a true big man and LL was never expected to contribute starter minutes. Cliff was a bust of a big man for more than one reason and the High Low works best when you actually have a threat inside to throw down low to. I for one am proud of this team, always love to watch KU play, and will hope for better things next year, especially inside. I think we are more than good w Mason and Graham, SELDEN @KUSTEVE lol, and Svi. Here is to another off season of anticipation and checking recruiting sites way too often and hoping for big developments from LL, Jamari, and HM!

I heard news on SC that Kevin Ollie may leave UCONN to be the head coach of OKC, I then went to 247 sports and noticed their top recruit Jalen Adams a 4 star PG had KU high on his list after UCONN per the Crystal ball. I think we are pretty set w Mason and Graham but I did find this interesting. If Ollie leaves would Adams be able to transfer?

@Crimsonorblue22 never under estimate what things may distract a young man barely in his 20’s, if I were to bet this situation didn’t help him much, maybe took his focus off the game a little. As you stated however, there is no excuse, I expect Mason to be back to his normal consistent studly self for the remainder of the season.

Udoka is getting exactly what we wanted Diallo and some other freshman bigs to get in the past, playing time. With the lack of big men we have he gets a rare opportunity in Self’s system to play through some mistakes and we will be better for it later in the year when it matters. I remember discussions almost every game about how we would be better off letting Diallo get playing time early so he could be better later, looks like we are getting our wish, just with a different player; in my opinion, a higher ceiling player in Udoka.

    • RE: Wiggins versus Embiid

I love them both, to even have this conversation is great for Jayhawk fans and even better for my autographed team ball with both of them on it!

I am not an NBA guy, haven’t been since the Jordan days and a few years after. I however watch a lot of NBA and the playoffs every year. For the last couple years I have watched Id say around 50 games of Wiggins, this year I actually purchased the NBA ticket where you can follow one team at a cheaper rate than buying it for all teams, I picked the 76ers.

Wiggins is a great player and a great scorer, we have seen Wiggins before, we have truly never seen someone like Embiid. I mean I literally spent 100 bucks to watch the dang 76ers play ball. Embiid is so much more than a great ball player with all of the skills you could dream up in a big man, however he is so much more when you think of his personality, his twitter account, diving into the stands every single night, choking out his own player after he made a game winner, dancing with cheerleaders. He has infected a whole city in a handful of games. He is talking about the playoffs and for some reason people are thinking, “you know what, maybe”. Embiid is the most fun I have had watching the NBA since Jordan.

If you have not tuned into his games this year, you should. I will give you my sign in and password, he is fun to watch. He is a dominate scorer, defender and super competitive. He loves playing the game and is the best player on the court essentially every night, at 24 min a game, which recently was increased to 28. He shoots threes every game, crosses guys up when they close out and euro steps a floater like a point guard, He has great touch and has a swim move where he gets his man to foul him almost every time, The next play he drives to the bucket and dunks it like he is mad at someone. I love his game, and I love me some Embiid. In my honest opinion Embiid in 20 plus games already has had a better career than Embiid and more of an impact on his team and the NBA than Wiggins has had in 2 plus years.

Here is to hoping they both continue to dominate and hit free agency and play together!

@benshawks08 you are right, so many distractions, so many off the court problems. I have 6 kids, the bad behaving kids get all the attention bc they need to be guided. My wife and I constantly have to redirect our attention and we choose to give positive attention instead of bad. At this time, I choose to give praise to all our players who continue to be good on and off the court, men who are great ambassadors of our program. I appreciate the like of Mason, LL, Svi, ML, Tyler Self and our walk ons. Thank you men for being good on and off the court. Heres to hoping these young men get their off the court troubles shored up.

I am a true homer, lets get that out of the way. Every game my Jayhawks, Royals or Chiefs play, any single call that goes against us, I think the refs are paid off. I even told my brother the refs were paid off at the beginning of the chiefs/chargers game and we won by 30. I realize that it is an overreaction. 99% of the time it is, however, The Diallo situation is what allows those crazy thoughts to enter into a fans head. As more and more about this situation comes to light, I do not feel like such a crazy homer every time I fear conspiracy against one of my teams. This case proves that there is indeed corruption at every level of all sports. When you begin to involve men and women who make and lose millions of dollars a year based off of these sporting events, teams and programs, there is bound to be corruption. I hope this is the only time my suspicions are true, but here is too every call that goes against my team being a conspiracy!

    • RE: Diallo is Cleared! Now what?

      A few thoughts…

Does anyone know what the least amount of money someone took and was suspended for it? $165 sure seems petty and I feel not being warranted a suspension.

While watching the replay of the KU UCLA game I fell asleep and dreamed Diallo was cleared, then in my dream I woke up and knew it wasn’t true only to find out he was cleared, then I actually woke up and was bummed to find my dreams werent true. A few hours later, my dream came true. I should of posted it on here for proof…dang!

Diallo’s impact will in time be large and I don’t believe he is our savior but a final piece that makes us a legit contender because we have a very good and experienced team without him. I would like to see Diallo and Bragg get minutes inside pushing Perry to the three. Watching Perry shoot threes this year, his fluidity with the ball as he dribbles the perimeter and the idea that he won’t get blocked so much on his short armed inside post moves makes me happy. I love Perry’s moves and his array of moves to get shots off inside, however he plays more like a guard trying to tear drop shots in over big men more than shooting over his strong shoulder and dropping the ball in the rim as most big men do. Perry also only has a future at the three in the NBA so this would be better for his future.

Happy Diallo is cleared, happy KU is playing in the championship game in Hawaii and Happy Thanksgiving!

@hawkmoon2020 i did notice Perry showing more emotion than normal. When he had a rebound and was fouled and lost the ball I think in the 3rd OT maybe?? and the ball fell in Hields hands who made a great three point shot, PE actually showed some disgust and was ticked off with his body language after that play. i mentioned to my wife when re watching it that I thought it was the most emotion he has shown maybe in all 4 years at Kansas. • RE: Wiggins vs Hield

Hield as a dominate senior barely cracking the top 10 in the draft boards, Wiggins as a freshman a consensus top 2 pick. That kind of answers the question of what a GM would want.

I think Hield will be a decent role player in the NBA, I wish him the best, he is just under sized and not an elite athlete. His defense is avg and his ball handling is avg. He will struggle to create his own shot in the league against taller more athletic players at his position. JMO I wouldn’t mind if I was wrong BC I like him as a player and he seems like a good kid from what he has allowed the public to see.

I said this the other day, but I am very happy that Udoka is getting experience early. For the last 2 years with Diallo and Cliff we cried for them to get early season minutes that would pay off come conference time and March. We are getting our wish finally! I think this may have something to do with LL playing poorly/injured ankle but I will take it either way. Before the game the announcer said he isn’t starting because of his numbers but his potential. In one game, granted against an inferior opponent Udoka had a better game than LL has put together in 3 plus years. We need LL to return to form, but I am very happy about these early season minutes for Udoka!!

I heard Colin Cowherd say once, “Don’t do anything to put yourself under a microscope, because we all look bad when looked into a little deeper”.

I am unsure if this is his original thought but it always resonated with me. Bragg seems to be under the microscope and the incident with the girl earlier this year put him there. He seems to be, from a distance, a good kid who made a mistake and is now under the microscope, where of course he looks awful. He will need to walk the line for some time to come now if he wants to get out from under it. This will be a point in his life that can set him up for future success, or be the beginning of his downfall.

“Make GOOD present choices for a GREAT future” Mr Bragg, we are all hoping the best for you!

It seems a little obvious to me what Frans issue with KU is, his son walked on at OU, walk on or scholarship it doesn’t matter, he was vested and into OU, it was his sons team for crying out loud. He loved OU because his son played there and he will always favor them. He will always hate KU deep down because he is an OU fan at heart. The same reason all other Big 12 teams hate us, we always win. Even when OU had some of their best chances with future pros with Griffin and recently Buddy, they could not beat us. He is paid to be partial however he just can’t help himself. I am for one getting tired of his face and his comments, I tweet him daily letting him know that he is obvious in his hate for KU.

    • RE: One night ONLY: An Iowa St. fan

I of course will root for the Cyclones tonight only because it favors the Jayhawks, however a part of me would be very happy to see Iowa State lose three straight, two of which came at thier “magical” home court.

      Iowa State has become my new personal rival, much like Missouri for the following reasons;

      1. They recently claim some kind of Hilton Magic after a few good seasons, I would love to see that magic stomped on tonight while we hopefully have yet another undefeated season at home.

      2. It has really gotten on my nerves how the most dry, non humorous coach in the big 12 is now a comedic commercial all-star, the apple of the big 12’s eye (even his wife has cameras follow her on a very boring day and it makes TV). All our coach does is win conference championships, a national title and debatably is the best coach in all of college basketball over the last ten years, somehow that just isn’t fun to cover anymore.

      3. The idea that Iowa State takes accomplished players from other teams as transfers and coaches em up on how to play a run and gun offense (of which any player can easily learn) is admonished over coaching up a 4 year player like the rest of the league does is not far from dare I say Calipari-esque?

After writing this…no, no I am not rooting for the Cyclones, I wish them all the fate I once did Missouri! Thank you Iowa State. its always much more fun to despise a good rival.

I agree Perry should be considered 1st Team All Conference. What I am enjoying most about watching Perry dominate these last 5 games is of course how aggressive he has been going to the basket and throwing down some great dunks. What I am also impressed with is how well the team is rallying behind him as a leader, seeming to make sure he gets the ball on every possession.

I would love to see Perry with the ball in his hands more much like a Georges Niang. Perry is a great passer and has a high basketball IQ. He has become an impossible guard with how well he handles the ball, how well he shoots from outside, and all of his “blender” type post moves. Imagine him adding a Point Forward type of play to his repertoire. I think Self is right in that Perry is playing at his ceiling, but I think the next step could be seeing Perry also as a facilitator.
