Could be we are quite stacked already with many possible returning players from this year’s team. Too many unknowns at this time, and higher ranked prospects want to start, and/or don’t want to be the 7th or 8th player off the bench.

RE: Devon
For the young folks who might not know or remember. Check out the “Miracles” who did a great job supporting Danny! https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/kansas/1988.html

RE: RJ Hampton
I would LOVE to have both of these guys! My only concern would be that I hope they check their egos at the door when they come to KU. Nothing wrong with being highly ranked, highly confident, and wanting minutes or to play with your buddy, but this is a team sport AND this is Kansas! Anyone else have that concern?

RE: New 2019 Recruiting
For all of you “statistic geeks,” I would love to know how many NBA players there are that were NOT ranked in the top 40-75 coming out of HS. Seems like there is a lot of NBA talent that weren’t OAD’s or highly ranked coming out of HS, but I could be wrong. I’m always rooting that the Hawks find some more “diamonds in the rough” like Mason, Graham, etc.

RE: So What's Different This Year
Nice take on the difference this year. I say we bring the bubblin’ crude and cement pond to the dance, and show 'em all who the best team is this year!!!

RE: WVU 2 FTAs, KU 35 FTAs: Should the Referees Be Brought in for Questioning by the FBI that Is Reputedly Looking into other Bizarre Activities in D1, or Is KU's New Two Free Throw Defense Just that Great of an Innovation?
Did I see this right? TT plays 3 games over a 6 day period? WOW!
-
RE: Recruiting Thread
I’d love to get Romeo, but won’t we have at least Vick, Garrett, Moore, Cunliffe, Grimes, Dotson, and Lawson filling the 1-3 spots? And we will have Doke, Lightfoot, Lawson, and McCormick for the 4-5 spots. Where’s the room for Romeo? Who’s our starting five, and who’s off the bench?

RE: KU-OU Bullet Points: KU Comeback Falls Five Short
Under Self’s tenure, the Jayhawks have focused on (perfected?) the Hi-Lo offense. And with no surprise, we practiced this extensively heading into this season. Then Preston goes down at the start of the season, and now we are forced to rely solely on a 4-1 offense. It takes time to master that, and we are still figuring out how to negate the rebounding problems with the 4-1. Right now, I see lack of effort and knowledge. I would like to see how we play with Doke and Lightfoot on the floor (ala Hi-Lo) if for anything, shits and giggles. Regardless, let’s hope this team perfects the 4-1, warts and all, into a championship team!
-
RE: Bill Self - cost us the game?
You play the best FT shooters in crunch time when the opposing team’s strategy to get back in it, is fouling Doke.
-
RE: Bill Self - cost us the game?
Bad News: We all agree how and why we lost this game when it was ours for the taking. Good News: We are 6-2 in Big12, at this stage, and that’s probably what most of us thought going into the season. Bad News: In Big12 play, our avg. margin of victory is 4 pts. Our avg. margin on losses, 8 pts.
-
RE: Oklahoma Sooners - Tuesday - 8 pm - ESPN
Was thinking the same thing. Must have been a reason. Maybe to give him more confidence and experience making FT in future games? Nah!
-
RE: Oklahoma Sooners - Tuesday - 8 pm - ESPN
Agree it is on Self. Very surprised. It’s not that we desperately needed him for rebounds.
-
RE: Oklahoma Sooners - Tuesday - 8 pm - ESPN
We’re not going to win every close game, but I think we blew it with Doke missing FTs. Should have subbed him out earlier.
-
RE: Oklahoma Sooners - Tuesday - 8 pm - ESPN
I feel sorry for Doke, but Jesus! Can’t he make 3 out of 10 FTs?
-
RE: Oklahoma Sooners - Tuesday - 8 pm - ESPN
Graham is struggling with 3’s and layups + 1. Gotta get better, right?
-
RE: So Tuesday
So our game plan is keeping Trae in check as much as possible. OU’s game plan is keeping DG, MN, SM, LV and UA in check as much as possible. I like our chances better!
-
RE: Thoughts on the Hawks
@Crimsonorblue22 maybe 3 of them. 1 was just plain too complacent.
-
RE: Thoughts on the Hawks
DG was awesome! However, he did have 3-4 “Nadir” type turnovers (aka. silly, for no good reason, wft was that.) LOL
-
Feel Better?
Thought this might make some of us feel a little better about our Hawk’s current standing:
Kansas 12-3 overall 2-1 Conference Duke 13-2 overall 1-2 Conference UNC 12-4 overall 1-2 Conference UK 12-3 overall 2-1 Conference ASU 12-2 overall 0-2 Conference AZ 12-4 overall 2-1 Conference
UCLA 12-4 overall 3-1 ConferenceYes, MSU and Villanova have better records, but their conferences are not that strong. I think we won’t see much movement there. IMO

Optimus Prime Grimes!

RE: Quentin Grimes Is A Jayhawk (MONSTER CLASS ALERT)
Sure beats biting our fingernails through March, huh?
-
RE: Quentin Grimes Is A Jayhawk (MONSTER CLASS ALERT)
Another quality young man in the fold! I’m psyched!!!
-
RE: Quentin Grimes Is A Jayhawk (MONSTER CLASS ALERT)
Maybe his car broke down. snark
-
RE: Devon Dotson Commitment Quotes + Hype Thread
Well, he’s already “created” a lot of excitement and optimism for the future. Seems like a great young man.
-
RE: DEVON DOTSON WHOSE COMMITMENT TO KANSAS WE NEVER DOUBTED
Thanks guys! I could use a nice recruiting reprieve now so I can focus more on the 17-18 team and upcoming season. Rock Chalk fellow Hawks!
-
RE: DEVON DOTSON WHOSE COMMITMENT TO KANSAS WE NEVER DOUBTED
Could someone please recap the decision timelines for Grimes and Zion, if there are any at this juncture? I’m too exhausted and giddy now to scroll through all the threads. Thanks.
-
RE: DEVON DOTSON WHOSE COMMITMENT TO KANSAS WE NEVER DOUBTED
BooYaa! Welcome to KU Devon!!!

RE: BORED: Starting Line-up Projection Time
Not sure if this was posted elsewhere. Interesting ranks.
-
RE: BORED: Starting Line-up Projection Time
Well, duh. I was talking about this year, so my bad re: Lawson. It’s been a long day. Seems like there’s not much argument other than with Svi and Vick. Plus, we all know that just because you start at the beginning of the season, doesn’t mean you will be staring at the end.
-
RE: BORED: Starting Line-up Projection Time
Surprised there’s no mention of D. Lawson vs. Preston as a starter. What gives? Is Preston that much better? I’m not sold on it yet.
-
RE: Full Schedule Released
I think we’re a lock for another 30+ win season, and another B12 title. Time for a damn FF and another NC Ring! Go Hawks!
-
RE: NO WAY WE LOSE 6
@Statmachine I hear you. As much as I love these talented kids, and the NBA drafts on potential, it’s hard to imagine Dok or Vick jumping early. One more year for both at KU would do the trick though (wishful thinking?)
-
RE: African Post Pipeline
I’m going to go out on a limb here, and say that this kid is good. Really good. Lightfoot good.
I know. For shame. I do love me some Lightfoot!
-
RE: Mitch to have a Huge Huge Role
Mitch will be a nice piece to the puzzle. He’s got some game and size, and just needs to focus on his “role” for this team. He still seems to be a bit awkward and slow at times, but I’d give him some minutes.
-
RE: Josh to Celtics #1?
Have always been a big Celtics fan (except for Smart,) and hope Josh goes there. However, he is a better fit for the Lakers and 76ers, so I’ll take the 76ers to pair with Joel. Now that would be fun to watch!
-
RE: Josh to Celtics #1?
@KUSTEVE And I think his sons have picked up the same elitist attitude. Big Blah Ballers IMO
-
RE: Frank Mason's KU Goodbye Letter
Really an incredible and insightful letter. But don’t say “Good Bye, Kansas.” Say, “See you later, Jayhawk Nation!”
-
RE: NBC Sports has Devonte as first team All-American
Well, I certainly hope he is! However, while I think he will put up good stats this upcoming season, I am hesitant to label him a 1st team AA. Prove me wrong, Devonte!!!
-
RE: SVI returns for senior year
Makes me very happy for Svi and Jayhawk Nation! I do think it is the right decision for him, and believe he and DG should take the reins of leadership for this team, and show the country they deserve to be in the NBA. Another fantastic season to look forward to!!!
-
RE: So National Championships Matter?
There you go stirring the hornets nest. LOL Sure, it sucks not winning 1 or 2 or more NC with Roy and/or Bill, but since 2004, here are some stats: UNC - 3 Duke - 2 FL - 2 (say what?) UCONC (say double what?) KU - 1 UK - 1 I don’t think there is huge mystery. Frustration, yes. Mystery? I dunno. It’s just really damn hard to win a NC given the NCAA Championship format no matter what team you have. Ask the 14-15 UK team that went 38-1.
-
RE: Frank Mason hilight video
Frank should be a 1st rounder, and I think most NBA teams would take him in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, they will try to steal him in the mid to late 2nd round. Frank has all the tools and persona to make it in the NBA, and he will be sorely missed by this HUGE fan regardless.
-
RE: The return of the high low
Nothing wrong with fantasizing, but let it go, Man. It’s over. LOL
-
RE: Just declare, Josh! (...that you're coming back!)
If Mom is calling the shots, and wants him to stay at KU to get an education, then he would have said he’s staying at KU by now. As a lotto pick or even a top 10 pick, there’s a 99% chance he’s gone. Good luck, Josh. Represent!!
-
RE: SVI WILL TEST THE WATERS
If Svi is seriously considering the Euro-ball rout if the NBA doesn’t give him the OK this year, why wouldn’t he just hire an agent, and go for it?. If he doesn’t get the NBA nod, he heads to Europe. “Testing the waters” sounds more like he wants to stay at KU if the NBA thing doesn’t work out this year.
