IMHO, most every game is about “match ups.” We are fortunate to have the IB/C5 to address specific game match ups, which gives us a lot of versatility. No doubt we will see Diallo & Bragg involved in more suitable games, and LL & HM & JT will be involved in other suitable games given the match ups. CD & CB will eventually get more valuable minutes and experience when we play the lesser teams. Hopefully, they will be ready to take more minutes and adjust to tougher match ups sooner rather than later. Either way, I am elated to have IB/C5 this season!

RE: Pot and Its Impact on BB IQ?
Hmm. Thought this was a “KU sports site.” Now it’s bash marijuana and progressives/liberals? I dare say we could all find fault with drugs, alcohol, religion and politics no matter where you stand on such matters, and I suggest we save that for “other” sites.
Besides, I’m not in the mood to take you on, and show you the fault in your eyes. And I could.
Here, we’re ALL Jayhawks, right?!

RE: Oregon Matchups
My high school / collage girlfriend is married to an OR assistant coach. She mentioned the arena was bleeding blue. Then said OR could only buy 1000 tickets, and that KC IS NOT a neutral court, and calling it BS. LOL Sure we have an advantage, but we earned our seeding, and won the right to play in KC. Not our fault. Excuses, excuses.

RE: Full Schedule Released
I think we’re a lock for another 30+ win season, and another B12 title. Time for a damn FF and another NC Ring! Go Hawks!
-
RE: Quentin Grimes Is A Jayhawk (MONSTER CLASS ALERT)
Sure beats biting our fingernails through March, huh?

RE: Diallo a Jayhawk
Great, great news! He’s not our “savior,” but he did answer our prayers. Also, a great choice for him and his future development.

RE: 2020 Recruiting
Could be we are quite stacked already with many possible returning players from this year’s team. Too many unknowns at this time, and higher ranked prospects want to start, and/or don’t want to be the 7th or 8th player off the bench.
-
RE: Mason's D
I thought his D was tenacious! The Man gave it everything he had against a solid POY candidate, and that should make us all very proud. I was also proud that PE finally showed a lot of emotion which demonstrates a strong “the will to win.” It can be contagious!

RE: Trae Young
As much as I love to see our players achieve their NBA dreams, it is indeed, a very rough road to success. Looking back on the past, I see all but 2 or 3 KU players chosen in the 2nd round or beyond, have not faired well in their NBA pursuits. Even a few chosen in the 1st round have had minimal success.
I would love to see Devonte and Svi stay for a banner year next year, but it’s not my life, and not my call. Either way, they will always be Jayhawks, and I will always be rooting for them!

RE: Frank Mason's KU Goodbye Letter
Really an incredible and insightful letter. But don’t say “Good Bye, Kansas.” Say, “See you later, Jayhawk Nation!”

Feel Better?
Thought this might make some of us feel a little better about our Hawk’s current standing:
Kansas 12-3 overall 2-1 Conference Duke 13-2 overall 1-2 Conference UNC 12-4 overall 1-2 Conference UK 12-3 overall 2-1 Conference ASU 12-2 overall 0-2 Conference AZ 12-4 overall 2-1 Conference
UCLA 12-4 overall 3-1 ConferenceYes, MSU and Villanova have better records, but their conferences are not that strong. I think we won’t see much movement there. IMO

RE: So Tuesday
So our game plan is keeping Trae in check as much as possible. OU’s game plan is keeping DG, MN, SM, LV and UA in check as much as possible. I like our chances better!

RE: F*** ISIS
Well folks, here we go again. Another opportunity to demonize and marginalize our fellow Jayhawks based on their political or religious views. Pathetic. But this is free speech, and so it goes.
Yes, WE ALL hate ISIS, and we all should be worried. But is this kubuckets.com or breitbart.com or mediamatters.com? And why is it that it ALWAYS seems to be a Conservative/Republican person who “initiates and interjects” their religious or political comments into this site,? And they do so knowing full well that it is bound to insult fellow Jayhawks? Something in the DNA I guess that makes them want to cast the first stone. Oh well, we Jayhawks have thick skin.
Anyone want to Google the # of terror attacks during Reagan’s term, or the Iran-Contra scandal, or his arming and funding Islamic Jihadists Afghans, or his involvement with McCarthyism, or his supporting Apartheid, etc.?
Can we all please, please try to show some respect here when we comment or debate issues? Is that too much to ask? Geesh.

RE: LOYOLA (MD) GREYHOUNDS
Spot on regarding the next 3 games. Great opportunity for the team and Diallo to fine tune and mesh their game leading into the Holidays. While CS should start his best players at the time of tip off, Svi, Bragg and Diallo will soon be vying for a spot sometime during the season. Rock Chalk!

RE: Frank on top for POY--Dauster
The fact that Frank is high on the list for consideration speaks volumes about his “game,” and character. I am so proud of that guy, and will miss him a lot!

RE: How did we win that game?? At the line
DG hit some HUGE 3’s during that stretch too! I think he hit 3.

RE: Pot and Its Impact on BB IQ?
I respect your basketball opinions and commentary, HEM. But as I said, I’m not going for it on this site. Let’s stick with BB. Entertaining enough for us to “discuss” and “debate” KU BB.

RE: Pot and Its Impact on BB IQ?
Sorry, a cut and paste:
The “gateway hypothesis” or theory refers to the idea that one substance — marijuana, in this case — leads users to subsequently use and/or abuse other drugs. If Christie’s point is simply that the use of marijuana tends to precede the use of other drugs, then he is correct — but that’s not the whole story. Though studies of large populations of people have indeed found that those who smoke marijuana are more likely to use other drugs, these studies show a correlation without showing causation — a commonly misunderstood phenomenon in science. In short, just because marijuana smokers might be more likely to later use, say, cocaine, does not imply that using marijuana causes one to use cocaine. A 1999 report from the Institute of Medicine, which is part of the National Academy of Sciences, laid out this issue clearly (see pages 100-101): “In the sense that marijuana use typically precedes rather than follows initiation into the use of other illicit drugs, it is indeed a gateway drug. However, it does not appear to be a gateway drug to the extent that it is the cause or even that it is the most significant predictor of serious drug abuse; that is, care must be taken not to attribute cause to association.”
Just sayin’.

RE: Driving I-70 Eastbound to land of Ahhhh's
With all due respect, and not wanting to go down the political rabbit hole regarding this issue, you should know that since too many simpletons and uninformeds see snow on the ground and think that “Global Warming” must be a lie or hoax, a name change was in order. As for me, I am gong to agree with 95% of the worlds actual leading “Climate” experts/scientists who say that Climate Change is real, and that Man is a major contributor to it. If anyone wants to believe the other 5%, that is their choice . . . unfortunately.

RE: Paschal Chukwu twitter chatter. Looks good for KU

Or, from the Beatle’s song, I am the Walrus: Chukwu g’ joob !

RE: Dream Class 2016
@HighEliteMajor Indeed, there is something wrong with a society that has to carry guns, and of course, there are certainly “good” gun owners and “bad” gun owners much like there are “good” cops and “bad” cops, and “good” politicians and “bad” politicians, and “good” companies and “bad” companies, and “good” people and “bad” people, etc. I’d like to think we ALL want to see “good” gun ownership, "good gun safety and “good” gun controls (where possible and when necessary,) that are better for today’s society, yet don’t squash our constitutional rights. Can there be such a thing as “common sense” or “common good” laws or regulations that everyone can agree on? I certainly hope so, and that is the discussion that should be had . . . especially on a different site or topic thread than this.
What I do take issue with (with all due respect,) is that you chose a rebuttal based squarely on the inner city problems vs. a broader scope of violence throughout the US. The fact that you chose to hone in on the “thugs” in the inner cities, and the “cowardly” folks who do not step up to criticize inner city murders, is quite concerning. I believe you are not a racists, but you should also know that there are a vast number of people who fight to improve the lives of inner city youth, and who fight to change the “culture” and/or “mindset” of our youth today leads to violence and murder.
It’s not easy living in the inner city, and God knows it’s not easy being a cop these days. They are worth their weight in gold, and are there to protect and serve us all. And yes, there needs to be more accountability from everyone. However, to simply target “thugs” and praise cops is generically very sad, and shows your true colors on how you feel about this whole dilemma. It’s like me basing my whole stance on gun safety on the fact that 95% of serial killers are white guys, and therefore, we must not let “whitey” get guns, or to ban guns from them altogether. That may be a factor in the decisions we make, but not the sole factor.
Still love and enjoy your BB comments and insights!

RE: WUG uniforms
Totally agree. This is the WUG, and “USA” should be the predominate feature regardless. Put KU or Jayhawks somewhere on the jerseys, but have “USA” front and center.
-
RE: WAYNE IS OUR #3 - OH HAPPY DAY !
Would have loved to see the game, and am happy too, that Wayne is finally living up to his expectations! We will fair well in the WUG, and explode in the upcoming season. What a great “team” we will have!

RE: CAN DEVONTE REPLACE NIC?
@JayHawkFanToo As a Liberal, even I find the PB&J comments made by that Principal quite moronic, and suspect most other liberals would shake their heads in disbelief too. And I won’t take offense to your “wacko liberals” comments because 1. I get your humor, 2. you are a Jayhawk brother, and 3. free speech is paramount to this site and our country. However, “extremism” exists among Liberals and Conservatives, and they can be quite scary to those who fall more “centralist” in their politics and practices. That said, your link to Alex Jones’ Infowars makes me shake my head in pity because this guy is the King of Conspiracies (most unsupported by facts,) and is quite the “wacko conservative” that many other conservatives find just as appalling. Just sayin’.
Rock Chalk!

RE: WUG Stats And Comparisons
Interestingly, Darnell Valentine stayed at my house during a weekend break while we were both attending a Jack Hartman BB summer camp. Dude is/was a STUD!
-
RE: CAN DEVONTE REPLACE NIC?
@JayHawkFanToo Totally agree that one should seek multiple sources for information in order to determine the real facts, quotes, circumstances or context. I certainly try to. Especially in this day and age of “media,” where there can be a lot of misinformation and out right lies on the internet . . . like this one: “The problem with internet quotes is that you cant always depend on their accuracy.” -Abraham Lincoln, 1864 LOL
And yes, sometimes we can draw different conclusion given the same facts, so it’s all good. I have no problem agreeing to disagree, and am always open to info that may debunk what I thought I knew.

RE: We Just Got Schooled By Harvard
Well, that game was a big kick in the nuts. Let’s give huge kudos to Harvard, and be glad they didn’t round-house punched us in the face, and knock us out. This was about the worst we could play, let’s hope, so it’s another teachable moment, and another wake up call to improve moving forward.

RE: Hunting Beavers
I remember #1 ranked Oregon State losing to KSU in the NCAAs in 80-81. Rolando Blackman nailed the winner. What a game that was. THIS, is not that team though. LOL

RE: HAPPY BIRTHDAY COACH BILL SELF!
Awesome post! Couldn’t have said it better . . . except 2 National Championships. LOL Happy B-Day CS, and to a successful ending to 2016!
-
RE: Mason's D
@Jayrawks1 I agree. But also thought he showed some tough emotions on 3-4 plays in the second half. Like he was either pissed or jazzed. At least he showed SOMETHING! LOL
-
RE: No excuses! Mason
Sure CS needs to take some blame, but I’m not sold that he alone is to blame for not getting his team “ready to play.” You can only do so much as a coach. These are still young men, and sh*t happens. I was a starter in HS, and during my senior year, my girlfriend broker up with me. REALLY messed with my head, and I know my head wasn’t 100% in the game over several weeks. What a wussy, but you know “love.” We got back together, and I was back to normal. Who knows what goes on with these young men. Love, School, Playing time, Family, Illness, Injury, etc. Now, if we start having multiple lack of effort games, THEN I will pounce on Self! LOL
-
RE: No excuses! Mason
I agree with that! Though I was referring to being ready “mentally,” and if you’re not ready mentally, even a lot of “preparation” may not suffice.
-
RE: At this point, is rankings worth anything?
I think rankings at this juncture only give us an idea of who appears to be the top 8-10 teams, and who the following 10-20 who you need to really watch out for. Other than that, not too much. It’s more important to get a high ranking at the end of the season for NCAA seeding IMHO. As Jayhawks, we’ll ALWAYS have a target on our back no matter our ranking.

RE: Billy Preston Picks Kansas
Oh yes he did!!! Welcome Preston, and thanks for being an intricate part of our successful lineup next year.

RE: kENTUCKY/LOL
Have to admit that I am a bit surprised that no UK “violation” talks have occurred yet under Coach Cal. What’s the over under in years for an investigation into their program? LOL

RE: Miracle In The Fieldhouse
@ZIG Guilty here too. But decided to ride it all the way to a gut-wrenching loss. Bothered me to see fans leaving early, but I guess “that otta learn 'em!”

RE: The Right Signs....
Is it just me, or are others noticing that Svi seems to be the lone wolf of the team chemistry? I know players have been frustrated with his TOs, etc.,(and maybe prefer Vick), but it sure seems like over the last 2 games, Svi gets no love no matter what he does. Whenever he makes a great pass or shot, I don’t see our players congratulating him., or acknowledging him. I know camera angles don’t show everything, but what I saw in this recent game was a lot of high fives and hell yeahs for the other players making shots or passes, but not for Svi…
Please tell me I’m wrong, because the kid is trying hard, and deserves as much kudos as others when he make a great play on either side of the ball, and he is an important part of this “team.”
-
RE: DID WE LOSE DEVONTE TO THE NBA THIS WEEK?
Him staying really solidifies our teams chances for great success next year. Would love to see him stay, but I’ll root for him either way. He is definitely showing his “game” now! Rock Chalk!

RE: This is getting tiring.
Undoubtedly, a very painful loss, and adds fuel to the thought that KU is weirdly “snake bitten,” when it comes to March Madness. Under Roy and Self. Always a Bridesmaid, never a Bride. It hurts, and there have been so many factors (players, coaching, injuries, cold shooting nights, off court issues, etc.) that have given rise to our unexpected exits.
But if you would have told me that KU would beat Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State, Purdue, Baylor, West Virginia, ISU, KSU, win their 13th straight Big12 Conference Title (that’s incredibly whack!), make it to the EE, and have a 31-5 record, I would have said "I’LL TAKE IT. I would still love to have a NC, but I’LL TAKE IT!. Other than the 13 straight, I would of course, trade all of the above for a NC. .But damn, we DID have a pretty frickin’ good year by any measure.
I didn’t expect a NC when the season started, but really thought we could pull it off this year as it progressed, and believed we were destined to exceed expectations. It didn’t happen. I am proud of our team and coach, and I look forward to the excitement of next season. We’re gonna be very good again! .
-
RE: On the Bright Side
I mentioned this elsewhere. Given the unexpected Bragg fumble and Udoka injury, we pretty much had to go all in with 4 and 1, and a small rotation. Still, a 31-5 record, 13th straight B12 Title (by 4 games!), and EE, and wins over Duke, Kentucky, MSU, Purdue, Baylor, ISU, OSU, WV, KSU, etc. Sure looks like a damn great year. Remember, 99% of all college teams would take that in a heart beat.

RE: The return of the high low
Nothing wrong with fantasizing, but let it go, Man. It’s over. LOL

RE: Josh to Celtics #1?
Have always been a big Celtics fan (except for Smart,) and hope Josh goes there. However, he is a better fit for the Lakers and 76ers, so I’ll take the 76ers to pair with Joel. Now that would be fun to watch!
-
RE: Mitch to have a Huge Huge Role
Mitch will be a nice piece to the puzzle. He’s got some game and size, and just needs to focus on his “role” for this team. He still seems to be a bit awkward and slow at times, but I’d give him some minutes.
