@Texas-Hawk-10 I’m actually glad we didn’t play UConn. I think it would have been a USC type of an ending to the season.

RE: NCAA NON- KU GAMES
This UCONN team looks unstoppable. I would rather anyone but UConn win the title this year. It’s mind boggling that they have the same number of titles as Kansas with absolutely no consistency as a program. They just show up every few years and win the whole darn thing. Somebody needs to do a statistical analysis of their program. Don’t think there is any other team in any sports with this type of inconsistency and titles. The standard deviation is off the charts.
Can’t stomach them having 5 titles in 24 years to our 4 in 70+ years! -
RE: We're the best
I don’t remember Joe’s. Was it there in the 90s? My late night donut place of choice was Munchers. I visited Lawrence last weekend and did the round of Pizza Shuttle, Munchers, and Yellow Sub. Pizza Shuttle is now $6 for 10" and a coke. I think it used to be 2.99 or 3.99 in the 90s.

RE: Self and Players Step Up! National Champions!
Great post! As much crap as Self has gotten over the years for being too tight or not getting the team ready or waiting too long in a game to make adjustments, this was his coaching all the way. The adjustments, the poise, the play calling to get the team going, it was a coaching masterpiece and will give him so much confidence in the future tournaments. The players played their hearts out. But it also shows, how much has to go your way to get the six wins. We’ve had too many years where we were the best team and someone else cut the nets; it feels good to finally get the breaks to reward the hard work by the team when they are not the clear number one in the country. Let’s get a couple more before too long. Can’t wait for next season to start!

RE: Miami Hurricanes Game Thread
FG - 48% vs 41% 3pt. - 37% vs 0% FT - 100% vs 33%
Plus we are getting out-rebounded. And we are still only down by 6?! I say we have a chance here in the second half.

RE: Dayton Game Thread
@BeddieKU23 absolutely. I’m afraid this will continue through the season. Self will continue to pound the ball inside knowing Dave is no Embiid or Udoka. He has such a fast athletic perimeter oriented team but he refuses to adjust. Crunch time, let’s throw it to Dave instead of Ochai or Remy driving it. His stubbornness may cost us again this year. Frustrating!

RE: Eventually
Would love to see Jacque, if we can’t lure Brad Stevens away NBA.

@FarSideHawk Ha, I drove for Pizza Shuttle one year. Crazy/fun job that destroyed my Chevy Chevette as I tore around Lawrence trying to make as many deliveries as i could to make more money!
Man, I worked in the kitchen for a couple of summers. I believe the summer of 95 and 96. Long hours but fun times.

@FarSideHawk Man, where’d you come from? I don’t recall seeing that young Larry Brown avatar for quite a while.
Man, I’ve been on an expat assignment to Dubai for the last couple of years so it’s been hard keeping up with my Jayhawks. Makes up for a lot of really early mornings to watch the games. Still try to come on here once in a while to lurk and especially look for your game post-mortems.

@FarSideHawk You’re not allowed to eat Pizza Shuttle until after 1:30 AM. Those are the rules.
Haha! True that, but still I survived on that $3.99 pizza for four years!

Does nobody like Pizza Shuttle anymore??!!! Their cream-cheese pizza was to die for! (I mean seriously, could give you a heart attack!)

RE: Still no respect...
We’ve had best teams in the field before that didn’t make it. Why not the other way around in our favor this time.
I didn’t believe in this team midway through the season. Thought it would be a miracle if we win the big12 and any victory in the tourney would be a bonus.
Never have been happier about being wrong! -
RE: Still no respect...
@HawkInMizery agreed. Hope they use it as bulletin board material
-
Still no respect...
From USA Today: Villanova’s national player of the year, Jalen Brunson, and Kansas’ Big 12 player of the year, Devonte’ Graham.
From SI: Villanova’s pair is wholly among the top-five players in the country, according to kenpom.com’s rankings, with Brunson second and Bridges fifth. Neither Graham nor Mykhailiuk are rated that highly…

RE: The Looming Trey Trough, Remedies and the KU Post complex: 20.8/13.7
Let’s just hope the trough is still two games away.

Who do we want? Auburn or Clemson?
I am on an expat assignment out of the country since last year, so barely kept up with KU games, let alone the rest of the field. Woke up at 3am to watch my Jayhawks last night (so worth it!) But I’m not sure who to root for now for next week’s matchup. Clemson or Auburn? Who would be a better matchup for us? Appreciate everyone’s Feedback!
Thanks and Rock chalk!!

RE: Breaking Wooden
Early in the season, i said that it would be an overachievement ( a miracle really) if we won the league again. I thought that would be the ceiling and any wins in the tourney would be cherry on top.
Now at this point, I still think that this team can lose in the first round on a bad day or get to the final four. There is still no margin of error for this team. It could happen that they ride a hot streak all the way to the end, but it can also end very quickly for us.
I am in the camp that would trade in all the league titles for a NC in 2011 and either of 2016/2017 (Frank’s teams). However, for this year only I was rooting more for a B12 title than anything else because I thought that was a more achievable target instead of a NC.
Here’s hoping, I’m proven wrong and Devonte pulls a Kemba Walker and takes us all the way!Rock Chalk!!

RE: Big night for Frank Mason 111-BIFM
Officially my favorite Jayhawk of all time (sorry Jacque, you’re no. 2 now)
What a competitor! Nobody deserved to win a ring more than this guy and nobody gave it his all to win as much as this guy.
From ‘No Rank Frank’ to the ‘Legend of Frank Mason’
PS Does anybody feel bad for Towson as how they are brought up in every conversation about Frank?
-
RE: Has anyone picked KU to win it?
Saw ESPN.com in their regional analyses had all the number 1 seeds going to final four except Kansas. They think Iowa State beats us in Sweet 16.
Sure we can lose any game from 2nd game onwards, but I really think Frank and Josh’s competitiveness and Devonte showing up for big games and big moments is going to keep us going.
Final Four and Beyond!

RE: Latest Bracketology by Joey
Yep, Duke would be tough to beat. But so would Kentucky and several other 2-4 seeds. I say bring on the bracket and if this is our year, then it will break our way. There are plenty of years where we ‘should’ have won and didn’t. Maybe this year we will beat teams we shouldn’t.
Rock Chalk!

RE: Josh Jackson
I think Wiggins would have done a lot better on this team and his athleticism would have really shined. However, from a purely basketball perspective, 3 things set Josh apart for me:
- His ball handling skills are slightly better than Wiggins so he is able to drive in traffic
- He goes hard to the rim to destroy it (and has missed some dunks because of that) while Wiggins settled for too many finger rolls
- Biggest difference is the court vision and passing. This is one thing for me that sticks out every game. He just knows where to pass the ball the second he touches it. Wiggins wasn’t near the passer that Josh is.
Other than this, Wiggins did carry that team as a frosh so I wouldn’t undermine his capabilities. I don’t think Josh would have been able to showcase all he does on the 2014 team either.

RE: Perhaps some good news?
@Crimsonorblue22 I’m not getting the connection of this girl to Azam Soofi. Is that his daughter? Same address? Or are they just in the same town so they must be connected? Sorry, just not seeing the link…
Edit - Ok, Nevermind. I see that she has the same last name.

Bummer! We play Stanford this year in Allen and set up a 4 year series with them. Sacremento next year, then AFH again, then at Stanford.
Awesome then! I see the Stanford game is less than 2 weeks away as well. Will be great to see Jerod Haase in Allen again. I was at KU 94-98, so the members of those teams hold a special place for me!

RE: Lagerrie, or the Protection Racket that Learned to Glass Vac
@jaybate-1.0 I think good thing about Josh is that he looks engaged in the whole game. His passing and awareness of where everyone is what I’m most excited about. So if he gets shut out like Wiggins, he can still impact the game. Plus we don’t have to count on him. He just needs to be a cog in this soon to be well oiled machine and he is on his way to fit in without the need to dominate the game.

RE: Thoughts from the game- A bittersweet Victory
I thought Svi played real well even though the stats don’t reflect that. He was active and made several plays possible with his play. I feel comfortable now when he’s in the game.

RE: Kansas vs West Virginia
well, we weren’t going to go undefeated in the conference. Our ‘best backcourt in the nation’ can’t possibly play worse than this.
this too shall pass.
On to the next game. The road to #12 and Final Four is still well-lit for us.

RE: Anyones else concerned here?
Actually I’ve been checking everyday to see if @HighEliteMajor has posted his post game analysis yet. I learn a lot from his posts. Hope he posts soon.

RE: C5 vs Rico Gathers
Diallo’s body language doesn’t look good right now. He seems to be trying too hard in limited time to show what he can do and makes more mistakes. Seemed pretty bummed and unhappy in the autograph line also.

@FarSideHawk did you have fun?
We did!! This was my first trip back to Lawrence since I left after graduation in 98. We caught both games this week. my twin boys, who are bigger fans than me, had the most amazing time on campus and at the games. Bought more KU gear this week than I did in 4 years before.

RE: Any good reference to C5?
@pa_grape Jaybate’s invention. Refers to the Center position by committee. The composite 5 of Jamari, Hunter, Landen, Cheick, Bragg, and Perry.

RE: More Paralysis And Disinformation: Lucas "Our Best Big"
@jaybate-1.0 Bravo! I wish someday I have the opportunity to meet you and talk for hours about any and all topics under the sun. Basketball would probably be lot lower on my list of topics. When it comes to history, politics, literature, philosophy religion, etc etc, you, sir, are a sage!

RE: This Or That?
Being affiliated with the greatest player that ever lived has to carry more weight than ONE championship. Now if we were talking about multiple championships, I may reconsider…

If NBA experience is required to be a great coach, we are screwed! Let’s see… Self has ZERO NBA experience!
Exactly!
Roy Williams had zero NBA experience.
Coach K never played in the NBA, neither did Dean Smith.
I’m sure I can go on and on…Seems like the criteria to being a good coach is having exceptional understanding of the game and teaching ability.
Somewhat unrelated to this, but as someone once mentioned, Michael Jordan would have a really hard time coaching because he won’t be able to relate to or teach 99.9% of the players because they just can’t do the things that came natural to him.

RE: Diallo is Cleared! Now what?
@HighEliteMajor As Self had once said, he plays every game to win, he will play the guys that he believes will help the team NOW instead of getting higher talent to play through for future payoff.
So I’m afraid we’ll see the first distribution of minutes you have up there. Hope I’m wrong.
@JRyman sometimes I think if Tarik Black didn’t foul at the rate he did to start the season (hence forcing Embiid into action that early), maybe we would have had a healthy Embiid at the end of the season or maybe even for season 2.
-
RE: Diallo is Cleared! Now what?
@AsadZ I agree. Bragg Diallo mickelson and Perry is the perfect lineup in my mind. But since Traylor and Lucas seem to be higher on the pecking order, I’m a little concerned about how it’s going to play out. Plus coach has indicated that Diallo is behind the curve so it may be a little while before he starts?
Lots of questions right now but atleast thus topic is behind us.
-
Diallo is Cleared! Now what?
So now that the frontline Savior from our savior is free, what impact do you guys think he’s going to have.
Based on what you’ve seen so far, who does he replace in the lineup. My fear is that Bragg and Hunter are going. be further buried on the bench now
Either way this will make us a better team

@jayballer54 I love your posts and your enthusiasm. I do have one constructive criticism on your writing style though. It would be a lot easier to read (for me at least) if you broke out your posts in multiple paragraphs. Hope you don’t mind.
To borrow from Jaybate, no malice intended.

RE: Could anyone on this year's team have started for the 2008 ring team?
@Texashawk yes you always have a shot in final four or the any stage of the tourney, but just because you are in the final four doesn’t mean it was yours for the taking.
2002 - MD team was a veteran and loaded team returning to the final four after blowing it a year earlier. That loss hurt but loss to that team wasn’t that shocking. 2003 we were the ones returning to FF with a senior team and for so close to getting it. That’s the one I regret.
2012 - we had no business getting to the final four in the first place. The Kentucky team was loaded. Our team over achieved. Sure it would have been awesome if we would have won, but I don’t regret losing that one as much because we lost to a much superior team. 2011 we were the best team going in and we were BY FAR the best team remaining in the tournament at that stage and lost to a 11 seed. That one hurts more. That championship was ours and we blew it.
2010 - we were the top seed going in but we weren’t leagues ahead of others like 1997. And we lost so early in the tournament that it’s hard to say we lost the championship there. Sure we had as good a chance to win as any but that one to me was disappointing because we went home so early not because we let a golden chance slip by.
-
RE: Could anyone on this year's team have started for the 2008 ring team?
@texashawk I don’t know about six, but definitely three we left on the table are 1997, 2003 and 2011.
The other years we had a chance like we doost year, but those three I will always regret.
