Thank you Jayhawks for another great season and eleventh straight Big XII championship. Frank Mason, you were the rock and MVP of this team. Keep your head high and come back stronger next season.

Time to regroup and focus! Tough road ahead, but the quest for banner number six begins now! Let’s go Jayhawks!

RE: WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAINEERS
Will need Mason and Graham on their A-game to beat the Mountaineers.
Frank to unleash his inner Bulldog!

RE: The Mason Bulls-Eye
@HighEliteMajor isn’t it ironic that the two lowest ranked guys in the last two classes are going to be the most valuable this year and throughout their career at Kansas. What a turn around from No-rank Frank to MVP

RE: Self and Players Step Up! National Champions!
Great post! As much crap as Self has gotten over the years for being too tight or not getting the team ready or waiting too long in a game to make adjustments, this was his coaching all the way. The adjustments, the poise, the play calling to get the team going, it was a coaching masterpiece and will give him so much confidence in the future tournaments. The players played their hearts out. But it also shows, how much has to go your way to get the six wins. We’ve had too many years where we were the best team and someone else cut the nets; it feels good to finally get the breaks to reward the hard work by the team when they are not the clear number one in the country. Let’s get a couple more before too long. Can’t wait for next season to start!

RE: KU Sports - Oct 28: Bill Self: Kansas hoops lineup coming clear
No surprises there. The real interesting battle now is for positions 6 through 9. I think here is the pecking order, with 9th person getting less than 10 minutes and not playing in tight games. 6. Andrew White III (backing up Wiggins and Selden) 7. Jamari Taylor (first big off the bench - experience counts) 8. Joel Embiid (Has to play - will continue to take minutes away from both Jamari and Black as the season goes) 9. Frank Mason (Greene is the more talented player, but need a ball handler to spell Tharpe for a few minutes. Naadir will log 30+ minutes this season.)

RE: KU Shoots Horribly, Loses Battle of Benches and the 5 by Committee Can't Get'ter Done but the March to Myitkina Continues
To coach Self (in my best Rick Pitino impression): Bill, Wayne Simien is not going to walk through that door. Cole Aldrich is not going to walk through that door. Thomas Robinson is not going to walk through that door.
This team is not going to win inside, and forcing it to do so is confusing not only their offensive identity but sapping their energy out on the defensive end as well.
I don’t think the coach is listening to me. Barring a change of heart for coach Self, this team’s ceiling is Sweet Sixteen, floor is the first game. And it is closer to the floor than to the ceiling at this point.

RE: Kansas guard Wayne Selden to return for junior season
Win or Lose, I’d rather do it with program guys committed to the university for multiple years, instead of OAD. Even if Selden doesn’t improve one bit next year (though I’m hopeful he will), I would still not trade him for a Newman or a Brown.

RE: Kansas guard Wayne Selden to return for junior season
Hoping for a Beasty year from Wayne!!!

RE: former ku point guard Aaron miles
@konkeyDong Vaughn’s flash?
Since Jacque is my favorite all time hawk, I gotta ask: what exactly do you mean?
I know he couldn’t take us to the promised land, but JV could ball!

RE: Thoughts from the game- A bittersweet Victory
I thought Svi played real well even though the stats don’t reflect that. He was active and made several plays possible with his play. I feel comfortable now when he’s in the game.

Where is HighEliteMajor???!
Can anybody remind him that the season has begun and we are missing his insightful analysis.

RE: Big night for Frank Mason 111-BIFM
Officially my favorite Jayhawk of all time (sorry Jacque, you’re no. 2 now)
What a competitor! Nobody deserved to win a ring more than this guy and nobody gave it his all to win as much as this guy.
From ‘No Rank Frank’ to the ‘Legend of Frank Mason’
PS Does anybody feel bad for Towson as how they are brought up in every conversation about Frank?

RE: ITS THE END OF THE WORLD
This is one of those games that we can’t over-analyze. One of those road losses that happens in a long conference season. Truth is we could have blown them out regardless of the game-plan. I just thought we played really sloppy and lazy at times, which gave Okies the momentum they needed.
We’re still in the driver seat for #11. We’ll be fine. -

Tough loss but they played with heart and toughness. Proud of their effort.

RE: ONE BAD GAME by Paul Pierce
Still the most devastating loss of my life as a Jayhawk fan. I was at KU then…

RE: Bill Self to OKC!
@MoonwalkMafia I understand, but it’s easy to put new plays in when you have such a veteran and high talent level personnel on the team. Our freshmen have hard time remembering the simple plays and being in the right place. Still, not saying that Self is better than Pop but that what you can do offensively is very dependent on who you have.

RE: Latest Bracketology by Joey
Yep, Duke would be tough to beat. But so would Kentucky and several other 2-4 seeds. I say bring on the bracket and if this is our year, then it will break our way. There are plenty of years where we ‘should’ have won and didn’t. Maybe this year we will beat teams we shouldn’t.
Rock Chalk!
-
RE: Has anyone picked KU to win it?
Saw ESPN.com in their regional analyses had all the number 1 seeds going to final four except Kansas. They think Iowa State beats us in Sweet 16.
Sure we can lose any game from 2nd game onwards, but I really think Frank and Josh’s competitiveness and Devonte showing up for big games and big moments is going to keep us going.
Final Four and Beyond!

RE: NCAA NON- KU GAMES
This UCONN team looks unstoppable. I would rather anyone but UConn win the title this year. It’s mind boggling that they have the same number of titles as Kansas with absolutely no consistency as a program. They just show up every few years and win the whole darn thing. Somebody needs to do a statistical analysis of their program. Don’t think there is any other team in any sports with this type of inconsistency and titles. The standard deviation is off the charts.
Can’t stomach them having 5 titles in 24 years to our 4 in 70+ years! -
RE: The quick yank
I kept looking at the bench to locate White and his body language, and not seeing him there got a little worried. Later found out about his injury, but I’m still worried about him leaving. I really like him and think he is exactly the type of guy we need in his junior and senior seasons. He needs to stick around.
With Oubre coming, we will be in the same situation next year, and worse (for White) if Selden stays and/or we pick-up Vaughn.
I really hope Self is doing a full press recruitment of White right now, because a 3rd through 5th year White will be more valuable than any Freshmen we could get.

RE: Jay Bilas: Ad Nauseam
@drgnslyr I’ve always been a fan of Bilas because he seems to be the most rational and impartial guy. I like his expertise and his candor against NCAA. Having said that, I was appalled today and couldn’t believe this was Bilas. Especially, when he called out Wiggins throwing the ball in frustration but completely ignored the defender’s intentional swipe at Wiggins head. I hope this was an anomaly because I really do like him. Today was unforgivable.

RE: Victory Over GU: The Power Of Three And Return Of The Quick Hook
Good Analysis, HEM. I see a lot of improvement in Perry Ellis. Very aggressive on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. He will have his challenges against the bigger guys, but his approach is a lot different from last year (even from the Kentucky game).
Selden just leaves me wanting more. I’ve had a man-crush on him since I first watched his mix-tape. But it just hasn’t translated to the college game. Still hopeful that I’ll get to see that beast before he takes off the KU uniform.
The TEAM continues to emerge!
Bring on the Utes!

RE: Bragg Commits to KU!
I’m glad we got him and if we add another post player (assuming Cliff stays), we’ll definitely see either or both of Lucas/Mickelson leaving. I always hate when players that have put in the time have to leave, but we can significantly upgrade the talent there.
On the perimeter, I really don’t want to sign anyone, including #2 Jaylen Brown. I’d rather have all the current guys come back. Even if Oubre leaves, we still have a stacked rotation and don’t think anyone would be an upgrade (in one year) on the guys we already have. Sophomore Svi would be the best prospect in 2015 class.
-
RE: Do we go after more recruits?
I don’t want any more perimeter players, not even Brown, even if we lose Oubre.
Sophomore Svi/Junior Greene will contribute more and have better TEAM chemistry than OAD Freshmen Brown.
We could really use another post player (Diello or Zimmerman) but I’m not losing sleep if we don’t get anyone either. Even if Cliff leaves, you have the same front court with another year of experience and Bragg replaces Cliff. If Cliff does come back, even better.
PS If freshman Wiggins couldn’t carry us to the promised land; freshman Brown won’t either.

RE: Tarik Black Trending
Wiggins is having a great rookie year, probably best rookie campaign since Pierce.
Ben McLemore is having a significantly better sophomore year. Unfortunately, he is playing with ball-hogs (Rudy Gay and Cousins) and hence not putting up enough shots. But he is scoring efficiently and can score a lot more.
Markieff is having the best year of his career. Marcus decent in a back-up role. Funny how throughout college the roles were reversed.
Chalmers is contributing but has been inconsistent.
Any team with half a brain would keep Tarik on the roster. The guy personifies hustle and hard-work, you need as many of these guys as you can in a locker room.
TRob really needs to find a team that can utilize him properly, otherwise he’ll be out of the league soon.
Cole seems to be enjoying a resurgence; hopefully he can continue. Withey will only get spot duty, as Mr. EyeBrows becomes a Star. He will need to be in the right situation to showcase his abilities.
Pierce, Hinrich, Collison, and Gooden are in the final stages of their careers.
Rush, Arthur, and Xavier’s injuries have really thrown a monkey-wrench in their career, right when they appeared to take-off and cement their place in the league. Not sure how long they will last now.

They do have Kansas if you click to go the Elite Daily page at the bottom of the article.

RE: Calipari to be inducted to the HOF!
@JayHawkFanToo I see what you are saying and agree that the African American community needs to purge this word from the vocabulary. However, the analogy you used, of a white person saying the exact same thing about a black player is not entirely accurate. If Harrison would have used a derogatory word for white people in his comment, then it would be. I think in that scenario it would be a bigger deal, but still not as big as it would have been the other way around. Just the way it works in the minority vs majority dynamic I guess.

RE: Bill Self to OKC!
@KUinLA Fair enough. I’m just afraid that we are due for a downturn that we haven’t seen since Larry Brown days. And Self leaving could be that disturbing of the apple cart. I’m hopeful that Self will eventually tweak his philosophy and take us from a very good program to a great program that can consistently win in March as it does In regular season.
Remember we were known as even bigger chokera during Roy Williams era, although I do miss his offense
