If they shut down Perry Ellis again, we have no chance.

RE: Time For Self To Kill C5
Did anyone actually watch the last ten-ish minutes of the Tech game?
Definitely slower pace with Lucas in, but I’d say we played more under control with Lucas in the game than with either Bragg or Diallo (and definitely without Greene flying around).
The quarter of the game where you WIN, net production doesn’t matter.
Tied 44-44. What did Lucas do?
10:03 Lucas post layup
8:52 Lucas screen for Mason made 3
8:31 Lucas boxout, fouled on defensive rebound
8:10 Lucas screen on Svi missed 3
6:02 Lucas assist on Selden jam
5:04 Lucas screen for Mason made 3
3:20 Lucas bounce pass to SVI who missed the dunk, made 1 FT
2:25 Lucas screen for Selden’s made 3
1:42 Lucas ssist/lob for Ellis jam
On Devonte’s layup at 1:08 Lucas screened Selden’s guy and Selden would have had an easy dunk if Devonte needed to dish of the ball. By that point the game was won.
Lucas got scored on a couple times in the 2-4 minute range, but other than that, I understand why Self is comfortable with Lucas out there. He knows exactly where he’s supposed to be.
Until Diallo figures that out, it’s going to be Lucas.
Ostertag on Ice
Being a retired professional basketball player sounds pretty rough. Greg Ostertag–bored with golfing every day–decided to become the world’s tallest hockey player.
“I’ll be the first to admit that I never reached my full potential as a basketball player. I took it for granted that I was 7 feet tall, and I rode that.”
Yeah, well we all kind of figured that!
RE: Jesus Christ, can we please push the reset button on 2020?
I love the masks. Haven’t had to trim my nose hairs in months! Thanks to my expressive eyebrows and dancing eyes I’m still able to connect personally with people in Menards, Dillons, the liquor store… well, that’s pretty much it.
RE: Tennessee State University - Friday - 8 pm - ESPNU
Last but not least, my dog was born near Nashville!

@Crimsonorblue22 My wife found this thing a couple weeks ago and it seems like she’s going to stick around.
I’m not sure what that one eye is looking at.
RE: Breaking Wooden
Do recruits outside of Kansas really care about the streak? seriously…when has any recruit said i want to go and win big 12 ship and extend streak? nada…
LOL. To quote a recent recuit:
“I want to break Kansas’ [Big 12 title] streak,” Young said. “It’s not going to be easy, by any means, but that’s something that I’m going to be hard on all year. If I would have went to Kansas, I would have been a little bit different, but I wanted to break that streak. That’s my goal. We’re gonna do it. I have all faith in God that that’s what his plan is.”
RE: We've been here before, but after last year, it feels different.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Oh, come on, these days (with early departures) this is the most talent and experience most teams have had in a decade! We’ll have at least four guys starting from day one that know each other well.
We could ride Doke, Silvio and Dotson and a handful of hard working scrubs to the final four. And instead of a handful of scrubs we’ve got Ben the Wild Giant, Prison Mitch, Cool Hands Garrett, MJ 2.O-baji, Euro Slayer Enaruna, a Chicago Sharpshooter Moss … then the young’uns who would probably start on most DI teams.
Don’t kill my buzz! We’re loaded.
RE: Chiefs are world champs
I’d also like to ask if KU and Snoop Dogg get a pass for their pole dancing incident after the half time show??
I missed some of the halftime show. Asked if there’d been a wardrobe malfunction, and a friend said “how the hell would you know?”
RE: Red Pill or Blue Pill?
It is embarrassing, right? With 24 losses, KU is the biggest tournament loser in the past 25 years.
25 straight tournaments
10 elite eights
6 final fours
724 W - 145 L (.833 overall since 1989-90 )
No real down years. No NCAA penalties. Two class-act HOF coaches. New branches growing off the Jayhawk coaching tree. Lots of successful graduates and some decent NBA players.
Fire Bill and retroactive fire O’l Roy and let’s have a few 15-loss NIT seasons to improve that NCAA tournament loss record!
@bskeet that’s sort of where I’m at. After the main senate confirmation hearings, I disagreed with him philosophically on a lot of issues, but I assumed (and hoped) deep down, he was a probably a decent guy, husband and dad, and worthy of being a SC judge. Go for it. He’s a JUDGE, right?
But that ridiculous display of bullshit Thursday was laughable. He’s from the same high school class as me ('83). I know the Animal House and other movie references, what the drinking age was in every surrounding state in 1982 (nope, not legal) and all the other stuff he lied about for no reason. (Devil’s triangle is like quarters? LOL) If he would have said, “hey, it was an all guys catholic school and we were sexually repressed, trying to be cool and funny with the yearbook,” I would have gotten that because I was young and insecure like that once too.
But, like Maya Angelou said, “When people show you who they are, believe them.” He showed us he’s an entitled prick, who was never held accountable for anything in his entire life.
He’ll get through with enough sham excuses for all the scared republican senators to vote for him, and be a useless joke like Clarence Thomas for his time on the court until, on his way home from a Georgetown pub, he drunkenly smashes his car into a light pole late some night. Hopefully he’s alone in the car.
RE: THE GERMANATORS
Germany is awesome. Local Germans treat American tourists WAY better than we deserve to be treated.
Wandering around Dinkelsbühl a few years ago… we were hungry and some lady was serving food out of her house on the side garden. Beautiful day, local beer (of course), local sausages, and the town drunk was there to entertain us. He probably had the best English in the town and basically only knew dirty jokes. Unforgettable.
RE: Doke flexible
@Crimsonorblue22 The dog (Gracie) is doing pretty well. Has two more rounds of chemo for her second battle with canine lymphoma, which is in remission for now, but likely to return within 3-6 months after ending the chemo treatment plan. She just turned 8… had hoped to have her around for several more years, but we’ve had a hell of a lot of fun.
Here she is demonstrating the Doke position:
RE: Nebraska Cornhuskers - Saturday 7 pm - Fox Sports 1
@wrwlumpy great photo collection, as always!
My late pup in Lincoln on the first morning of a 12 day trip to the Oregon coast.
I’m related to Hillary Swank by marriage. Her uncle is a really nice guy and he claims she’s a genuinely good human.
OK… time to turn it around and beat up on some huskers.
RE: Is the Phog losing its Phogginess?
I was at the game Saturday and it was loud. I forgot my ear plugs that I usually bring, and my ears actually were ringing for half the day. The crowd really got the team going early in the second half when KU made cut into the lead, and then two timeouts (one by OSU and the under 16:00 timeout) took FOREVER. Were those CBS timeouts longer than usual? Total momentum killer. Crowd was “helping” pretty loudly on D at the end, but OSU kept hitting ridiculous baskets at the end of the shot clock.
I saw a few lame ass fans leave with about 2 minutes left who seemed angry that they weren’t going to get the victory they were entitled to seeing. Game wasn’t over at that point, IMO.
RE: Lost to Two Post Players
My expectations are very low at this point. With Doke, this was a possible elite 8/f4 team. Now, if Self gets a conference tie, that’d be a wildly successful season. This is literally the youngest/least talented team on the court Self has had. Wiggins’ 10-loss team had more guns.
Our 6-man rotation is:
one 40 year old semi-retired NBA player (what is Dedric, a sophomore or junior? does it matter?)
and one senior head case.
Big Dave (high hopes, but another freshman)
Mitch (wtf dude?)
Silvio (dream team/semi sophomore)
RE: Who are you?
drgnslayr, think of it this way: you’ll only be clicking on each story once to read it instead of 50 times to keep up with the comments. Those guys do work pretty hard to crank out stories, so I’m fine with them getting the credit for viewing the content.
RE: KU Students following MU?
Gave five bucks to a homeless guy on Mass street a couple weeks ago. As I was walking away, he yelled, “Thanks, and make sure you vote republican!”
I got a pretty good laugh out of that, but sometimes it’s hard to tell when someone is being sincere or being ironic.
Is there a lesson here? Probably not.
RE: Coronavirus Thread: Boy, guys. I really just don't know. Best to keep tabs.
Doing my part. Went on a 3-day Caribbean cruise last week (planned from last July. Took a chance and went. Probably wouldn’t this week). Flew home with some lady coughing behind me on the plane the entire time from Miami. Repacked my bags and drove half way across the country to self-quarantine in a beachfront house on the outer banks.
Ran my usual 5 miles (on the beach for a change) this morning after taking this shot of my pup from the deck. Pretty sure I’m OK.
It’s been rough, but I’m doing what I can to avoid crowds.
RE: The Myth Of Three Point Defense And Ellis Success
Sure, the three could be KU’s strength, but it’s just not a magic bullet. We have to have a go-to guy when you need points.
Iowa State… also 2-2 last four games. Averaged 23 3-point attempts per game and made 35-92. That’s 38% which is pretty close to KU’s season average.
How did ISU do in those last 4 games? Same as KU 2-2.
Cold (6-20 from 3) @ OSU and won
Hot (12-21) @ TX and won
Ice Cold (6-24) Baylor and lost
Warm (11-27) @ KSU and lost
This is deep in the b12 and opponents know what you’ve got. So what do I get from that? Both KU and ISU need to have more than one weapon in the arsenal.
As far as I’m concerned, if the last 4-5 games have given Perry the lift he needed to be the go-to guy we didn’t have previously in crunch time, then GREAT. We can build on that better than shooting 25 three pointers the past four games.
All self has to do now is tell the little bulldog and Perry to kick it out once in a while, and maybe have Brannen actually move around to get open instead of pitching a tent out there at the arc. Get him him and Wayne out of the corners out another 2 feet and give them some space.
I’m actually happier with where we’re at now than after the TT game.
RE: The "crap on Biden" thread.
I think Harris is GREAT. I would’ve voted for her in the primary if she’d still been on the ballot in KS. All the people I know to the left or right of me can’t actually say specifically what they don’t like about her… it’s always about something someone else might think “Well, black guys aren’t going to vote for her because of her AG record…” Too progressive (no specifics), not progressive enough (no specifics). I honestly don’t know know what that is about…mostly that comes from guys but a few women too, so I don’t think it’s a fragile male ego thing.
She’s tough. She’s smart. She has a sense of humor (indicative to me as having a soul). She mows people down who are ass-clowns, OK–That’s what I want.
Who would have been a better pick? Warren? Whitmer, Jim Webb?
I don’t get it. Who the hell cares if the parents are borrowing on their kid’s future. Kids borrow on their parent’s reputation all the time.
Furthermore, if all those sh*tbag corner title and payday loan scum suckers are legal at 300%, how in the hell is getting ANY kind of loan “illegal” in this country? If someone wants to lend you some money… so what??? Please explain any recent situation where finding one dumbass to loan money to another dumbass has ever been prevented in the business world. Do we really have any moral or legal problem with that any more?
F’ the NCAA and the NBA too.
RE: The past two seasons: Déjà vu all over again and again
@Lulufulu Man, I can’t believe I forgot about Tarik. He was another pleasant surprise on that 13-14 team.
@highelitemajor and @drgnslayr Graham has a great reputation on campus according to some faculty members I know who’ve had him in class and totally love the kid’s exuberance… he’s sounds like a potential role model, leader, “team uniter” kind of guy (which I think we’ve been missing the past two seasons). Too much to ask from a freshman, but he sure didn’t seem like a typical freshman either this year.
OK… starting to see some bright points. I promise I’ll shake off the doom and gloom in the next couple months!
RE: TOP 15 COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS SINCE 2000.
Try UConn having 7 elite eights, just as many as KU has. So, again, UConn made four less tourneys, but has the same number of elite eights.
I’ll take our 26 consecutive ncaa appearances with some painful early exits over not making it at all ANY DAY, thank you. We’ll tie NCarolina’s record next year.
UConn deserves to be considered more of an elite program than they are, but they’re not even on the radar some years. Hell, most basketball fans across the country wouldn’t even notice if their men’s team wasn’t on the tournament bracket. If KU or UK or NC doesn’t make it though, that’s big news.
I lived in Tennessee for ten years around a few Kentucky fans (some were total a-holes and some were people like you guys who loved the game). When UK didn’t make the tourney in 2009, they were crushed. I don’t think KU fans have any idea how humiliating that was for hardcore UK fans, and how it would be exactly the same for KU fans.
