@kuballin10 Certainly wasn’t ignoring the fact that the game was played in AFH. Simply stating that KU had the ability to play at a championship level when you consider who all we beat this year. Something definitely was lacking when we went on the road. In our world today, it seems too many people quickly jump on the bandwagon (whether it’s positive or negative). Look at the Chiefs. Everyone bashing them until they finally figured out it was ok for the defense to be the leader. It would be interesting to go back and look at comments earlier in the season after the big wins.

RE: Other bball games
Guess I’d stick with ours. When is the last time KU had a losing record? How many times in the past 25 years have we lost 10 or more games? Three losing seasons in a row for them at one point.

RE: Other bball games
@kuballin10 UConn only lost 3 games this year; who in the heck was able to beat them??
-
RE: Other bball games
@jayballer67 I think there were games earlier in the season where we were fluid and really got up and down the court. Something caused a loss of confidence especially on the road. Were we soft? Probably. Were we a cohesive unit? For the most part no, and I go back to earlier when I said that is probably due to having only a few players who have been in Coach Self’s system for 2 or more years. I would think that picking players from the portal has made it more difficult than ever to put together the right pieces.

RE: 2023-2024 Statistics
@dylans 21+year old is quite different than an 18-19 year old in many ways. I understand that Bobby Knight while at Indiana worked with a sports psychologist to develop a test that was then given to a kid before Knight would recruit him. This helped determine whether or not the kid would be able to function under him. Probably wasn’t fool proof but it probably saved some problems over the years.

RE: Samford predictions?
Seems that too often on here we fear the other team and wonder how on earth we can adjust to them. What are they thinking? They lost by 50 when they played against Purdue and their big center.
-
RE: Bracket chat
When this team meshes, they are elite. However, this team is an excellent example of college bball in today’s world. Of the players who play the most, all but two are in their first or second season; therefore, chemistry and familiarity are not there at all times. We all know that Bill’s best teams are veterans who have been with him for more time.
-
RE: Who would you keep for next year?
@BeddieKU23 Don’t know that college ball is down as much as the number of players who have switched programs has created so many roster changes. This in turn creates a lack of cohesiveness at times for even the better teams. When a team has 5 or more players who have been together for 2 or more years, they know one another’s moves and fit together better.

RE: No fear, the future is wide open, playing with freedom thread
So much of it will depend on the mindset of those playing tonight. Their approach to it will determine if it’s a game or not.

RE: Cougar chat
@dylans Can’t remember; how did he do in Lawrence when Houston played there?
-
RE: 2024 NFL Offseason - FAs, Trades, Draft
@dylans He definitely wasn’t the leader that Denver needed, especially in the ways that Sean Peyton needs. He also wasn’t the only issue that Denver had. Seems as if there were too many players who put themselves first over team.

RE: McCullar out vs Baylor
When HCBS said that Kevin tweaked it against OU, that sounded like something other than just a bruise.
-
RE: The Boys Are Back vs OU
Looks like someone needs even more practice shooting free throws!! “Wow Virginia beats WF in 1980s big East style of game while shooting 9% from the FT line ”

RE: Guess who called me out at Home Depot in Santa Clara for my KU Sweatshirt
What a great story! Definitely an answer to the proverbial “wonder what ever happened to him.”

Bring Duke and Gonzaga into the Big 12.
-
RE: Land Thieves Shooty Hoops
@BeddieKU23 First half he had numerous open looks and hit many of them; second half very few open looks.
-
RE: Land Thieves Shooty Hoops
McCollum had 15 at half and ended with 17; who shut him down in the second half? Thought that was a huge difference for us in the second half.
-
RE: Land Thieves Shooty Hoops
@DCHawker UCF was more turnovers and lack of effort after the first 15 minutes.
-
RE: The Furph
@rockchalkjayhawk It seemed that he was a step slow defensively in the past two games and really had a difficult time guarding his man.
-
RE: Chiefs season long game thread
Mahomes turnovers the past 2 games have been killers.

RE: Guaranteed Rate Bowl News
I agree with you about this team. My point is about so many at all of the universities in bowl games who suddenly decide to sit out a game that the team worked hard to get to. Suddenly an individual’s loyalty disappears because he puts his health (which had been on the line every other game during the season) ahead of the team. Of course, I’m old and see things through different glasses!
-
RE: Guaranteed Rate Bowl News
I would think if he’s not playing that he’s already decided on the option he plans to take. I understand the worry of an injury but wasn’t that possible every game during the season. Our sense of loyalty (to team, teammates, school, etc.) seems to have disappeared over the years.

RE: 2024 Recruiting
I would thin Bryson Tiller would be leaning KU’s direction after watching team and coaches in action two weeks in a row. Any updates?

RE: Exhibition Game Tonight
Wasn’t attempting to compare him to Frank, and I don’t think a leader needs to be a beast offensively. Interesting how some were ready to clear a space for new title trophy and banner a few months back, but after two exhibition games are bashing almost every. player.
-
RE: Exhibition Game Tonight
Might be although I don’t think he likes that role. I think Juan could be the one but he isn’t sure that the others see him as the alpha. To become the team we hope this group will become, this (a strong leader) has to happen.
-
RE: Exhibition Game Tonight
Once these guys figure out who the leader on the floor is, they will be fine. Last year was easy with Jalen taking over.
-
RE: Chiefs season long game thread
@rockchalkjayhawk Think part of it was the result of human nature. They were playing a horrible team and didn’t really prep mentally as they will when they play much better teams.
-
RE: Jalon Daniels health
Time to prepare as if he might be done for the yr. Bean needs the reps in practice in order to be ready for a game. Difficult situation to begin with became almost impossible when he was named starter shortly before kickoff. No doubt that all of the team was knocked down a notch or two when it happened.

RE: 2024 Recruiting
@TYOHawk In the 247 interview he uses the word “good” often in describing his Kansas visit; he uses the word “great” to describe Miami.

RE: Pregaming Illinois
Tradition says go to the football game until its outcome looks fairly certain and then leave. Tradition says go to a basketball and stay until the end, no matter what. KU is a basketball school, and unfortunately football has a lot of ground to make up.

RE: Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk
Is the negative attention nationwide or only on this site? I would guess that many of the kids playing college sports come with some kind of risk. I would also. think that when a court decision is made then a decision will be made on his playing or not. Let’s not be judge, jury and executioners since we know only what the media has chosen to give us.
-
RE: NCAA NON- KU GAMES
Bring UConn into the Big 12 along with Gonzaga. UConn does at least have football.
-
RE: McCullar
Definitely not down on Gradey but not sure what legacy you’re looking at. Because he is a freshman, his immaturity at this level has certainly shown this year through his inconsistency. Those that have been mentioned stuck with it through 2,3,4 or 5 years and continually improved. Several went on to successful. pro careers after risking injury while playing. I see the risk of playing another year as advantageous to his future because it will allow him the opportunity to become a stronger player in a variety of ways. Right. now he is a streaky shooter, kind of how Remy was last year.

RE: Texas game chat (danger I'm 0-1 in my last game chats)
@benshawks08 Maybe to some extent but Texas played 3 in 3, also. This group has a tendency to roll over when they get smacked. They have had some nice comebacks, but as someone pointed out, we’ve also lost several by big margins. When we came back, it was with an unbelievable amount of energy and effort. Didn’t see either of those once Texas got up by a few late in the first half.
-
RE: Texas game chat (danger I'm 0-1 in my last game chats)
Desire and effort would have made a big difference.
-
RE: Texas game chat (danger I'm 0-1 in my last game chats)
Texas is playing like they want to win. They are going after everything while we stand and watch.
-
RE: Texas game chat (danger I'm 0-1 in my last game chats)
Is Gradey Dick playing today? Wow, how on earth can he expect to play in the NBA when he finds it tough to go three days in a row?
-
RE: Other games
@stoptheflop Before Remi started his hot streak last year off the bench, what kind. of production did we get from the bench? It’s almost like our bench players really aren’t expected to score since the starting five pretty well takes care of that. It would be a real bonus if they did, but none other than Joe look to score. As long as they can play good defense and either score a few or create opportunities for starters to score, I’m ok with that.

RE: Conference Champs vs Burnt Orange Arkansas Game Thread
@tundrahok I want to agree wholeheartedly with you, but we have not been engaged several times this year and got drilled. Several times it was only for a half and then we responded. Not a good formula to follow.
-
RE: Conference Champs vs Burnt Orange Arkansas Game Thread
@jayballer67 To take it one step further, we really have no one who has been consistent for some time now. Jalen is our closest, but he has had some rough games lately. Juan is superb when/if he is aggressive. I really believe that we can win every game before it starts. IF/when we play like there is no tomorrow, no team can stay with us. Not sure where the button to push is located, but sure hope Coach Self has it ready.
-
RE: Conference Champs vs Burnt Orange Arkansas Game Thread
@Crimsonorblue22 We have not played even close to how we played much earlier in the season. We have won close games which is great, but it is concerning with March here. And even more concerning the way our scorers are not scoring consistently. Right now Gradey cannot be counted on as a threat. Something is definitely off; certainly does not look like a lottery pick the past two games. It was as if the team treated today like a scrimmage, but Texas realized that it was a game.

@kjayhawks Good ole’ Lebanon, KS. Went to kindergarten and 1st grade there.

RE: Triage Hawks vs Fightin Rodney Terrys Game Thread
MJ almost was lost at times but he also did some really good things tonight. Much more aggressive on defense most times and came up with some loose balls. Almost seemed odd but when Jalen exited, we opened up the lead. Kudos to Juan and Joseph.
