Fort Hays Game Thread

  • WE GOT TEAHAN

  • Teahan can’t go over the back. He’s Teahan.

  • Missing bunnies. If found pls return to AFH. Thx.

  • If the iceland kid has to come out, then Teahan will be the palest guy on the floor

  • I hate replays of injuries.

  • Come on Silvio. Go up strong my dude.

  • Okay Silvio.

  • HOLY SHIT JANK

  • Jank with the dagger

  • The Jank is open.

  • That was PURE AF.

  • Late Jank’ing hours

  • Considering the start to each half and no Dot this wasn’t too bad.

    ROCK CHALK IT UP

    🤮

  • We good

  • Always good for that1st practice. - Some thoughts: - - glad this was exhibition. - - -Silvio showing the rust, think he will be ok - - -kinda disappointed from the big aspect - Combo reason - either the big’s weren’t working hard enough to catch the ball inside - -OR the wings weren’t working hard enough to get the ball inside - Our Big’s should of had a field day tonight.

Marcus looks like he might have improved his shot a bit - - - Braun had a nice game , he looked pretty comfortable to me actually - -looked like a nice all around game for him - might play more then we thought. - -Give Enaruna a little time – he be ok

Free throws still suck at times - but it will get better 1st scrimmage - everyone shaking off some rust - - we won - -another week of practice and on to the next one - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Enaruna has to play this yr you cant teach that length

Try to get him minutes and see if he can get going. But I think he needs a year. (I love basing all of this off of one game lol).

  • Lolz at Marcus. Question from Scott, “who does Christian remind you of?” Marcus, immediately, “Me.”

  • I think we saw some good stuff tonight and some bad as per usual in the first exhibition. The freshman are obviously super green but boy they ain’t afraid to shoot lol. I’d really hope we see Moss next week so we can see what he has. I still think a 4 guard line up is the best way to win basketball games. 90% of the teams we will play, will have a shooting big. The two post is fine for stretches but isnt something that I think will work a ton. Just like the RPO and air raid style that people claimed wouldnt work in the NFL. Now most teams are running it and scoring is up big time. Same could he said about shooting bigs in the NBA. There is a reason people aren’t running Dean Smith’s 4 corners anymore. Hopefully Self sees this and remembers the success of 4 good guards in 16, 17 and 18. I personally am for a Dotson, Garrett, Ochai, Moss and Doke line up. I know people dislike Garrett offensively but if can hit 30+% of his 3s, he’ll be great. Both he and Ochai were hands down the best players on the floor tonight, tough to see either not starting.

  • Lineup will be Dotson Garrett Ochai Silvio Doke against dook

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich his hair looks like that kid from tcu

  • The announcers after the game said that we might RS the wrong big man. Instead we should RS Dave. That way we can use Dok/SDS at the 5 and mitch at the 4 to guard the 3 point line better. If that works outs then for next year we could have Dave/SDS at the 5 Wilson/Enaruna at the 4. What do you guys think?

For me I think it’s a little unfair to blind side a player with a RS.

  • Dave isn’t going to rs because he isn’t a five year guy. Fact of the matter is we have 3 centers on d and Mitch is a center on offense.

    This.

And Silvio is athletic enough to guard a stretch 4 if he is engaged. I personally think the reason we can’t guard the 3 is our system is just too help-oriented. It’s a Bill philosophy thing more than being incapable of doing it.

Something to keep an eye on for sure. Hard to get too worked up about Hays when the players weren’t all that locked in and we were without our best player and at worst our first guard off the bench, possibly another starter eventually.

Right on … our help has put us out of position. Our help has been geared to defend inside working out. Our help has not funneled shots to the 8-18 foot range.

Our defense needs to be geared to defend two nearly co-equal threats — 1a dunk/layups, and 1b three pointer. We should encourage and help create two point jumpers for our opponents as the better alternative.

We haven’t been able to guard the three because we have not had a defensive philosophy that treats deep outside threats — the three pointer — on par with dunks/layups.
