Nick Collison Retires...
-
Not unexpectedly, one of my all time KU favorites, Nick Collison, is retiring from basketball. One of the better players ever at KU and an outstanding individual will long be remembered by the Thunder for his contribution on and off the court.
I would love to see him take a position at KU coaching bigs., He was one the more fundamentally sound players while at KU and NBA and a mentor to many of the great players at OKC and I believe he would make a heck of a coach. Hopefully we get to see him more in Lawrence.

@JayHawkFanToo Here’s a link to the article from The Oklahoman about Nick’s retirement.
He is high on my lengthy all-time favorites list. The article says he’s looking forward to more family time. I hope he and his family move to Lawrence, he gets hired as an assistant coach, and Bill Self can spend the next 15 years grooming him to take over as KU’s head coach when Self retires. It is my understanding he’s basically been part of the Thunder’s coaching staff for the past year or two. Am I remembering correctly that Nick’s dad was a coach?

Great Hawk and all around good guy. Wish him the best with w/e he does next.

Yes, his dad was a coach and yes, his last two season he was pretty much kept to mentor and tutor the younger players. I think he has a future in coaching, either college or the NBA.

Nick was so good fundamentally i think he would be a great big man coach.

Former Thunder big man Nick Collison, who worked last season as a special assistant to GM Sam Presti, will be in a new role this year, having earned the title of amateur evaluation scout, according to Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman.
