@BShark what do you think? Didn’t care?
-
Maybe just not all that good. Either way, glad we have Josh.
-
Let’s recall that Brandon Jennings averaged only 6.3 points per game in his one season of Euroball. He was a double figure scorer for each of his first six seasons in the NBA.
One season of Euroball doesn’t necessarily mean that Ferguson won’t be productive in the NBA.
-
-
@BShark did he play against any Jayhawks?
-
Ferguson did not pay in Europe, he played in Australia. Big difference.
-
Honestly, the difference is not as big as some may think. Euroball is about a step below the NBA, but a half step above the D-League, and about 4 steps above D1 ball. The Australian league, while not having the top end talent of D1 ball, has probably a higher average talent base. It’s not like you could pick a random rotation guy from a random Big 12 team and plug him into the lineup for a pro team in Australia. So Aussie ball is probably a step and a half below the D-League, if not just a step.
And on top of that, Ferguson is a pro right now. He’s learning how to practice like a pro, and how to prepare like a pro. You can’t get that in college because of the restrictions on practice time.
Jennings demonstrated how valuable that experience was by coming right over to the NBA and starting for a team that eventually made the playoffs. He was at least as ready for the pros as any OAD has been, particularly considering where he was drafted (late lottery).
-
@justanotherfan Great perspective! My personal bias is to only worry about college ball, first & foremost, and KU over all other teams. Since I only watch NBA playoffs, I care far less about pro game. But I guarantee I’ll follow Mason and Josh’s careers, as they’ve given 100% for KU. Josh hasnt sandbagged at all. Best OAD Bill Self has ever had, in regards to their KU performances. He does & means so much more to his team than Wiggins did, on both ends of the court. He actually makes a veteran team better.
Who is Terrance Ferguson? Josh would simply smirk/sneer facially if asked, but I’m sure would say something sportsman-like, as he’s learned from Self…
I dont know who Terrance Ferguson is, either.
-
I was not comparing either League to the NBA, I simply indicated that the Euro League is considerably better than the Australian League. The ultimate goal of players in the Australian League is to graduate to either the Euro League or the NBA and not that many have done it.
Most of the Aussies playing in the NBA…Bogut, Dellavedova, Mills, Simmons, Bairstow…came here to attend college first or were drafted from the Euro League (Ingles). I believe Exum is the only player that came straight to the NBA after playing in the Australian League since he was 15.
The D-League has considerably more talent than the Australian League and Ferguson would have played much better competition …but a lot less money…
-
@JayHawkFanToo Most of the Aussies have played for St. Marys. It’s almost like there is an unknown land bridge between Australia and Moraga Ca.
-
Saint Mary’s also thrives on Aussies; Davidson also has a bunch of foreign players, many European.
