I never would have given this a thought back in the day…But I do think this is quite relevant in a strange manner of way to all the “I.me, mine” crap that spouts out from social & general media posters in this day & age. Also some of the trash talking that went down between the Celts & Lakers is just hilarious & absolutely classic.

@dylans Cornbread was a real funny guy. Man those were some great series between those teams back then. Still great play in the NBA but is hard for me to relate to any sort of rivalries now. Guess I’m showin my age like@Crimsonorblue22 says, but for a half dozen years or more I didn’t miss many of their games. For me that rivalry began between Magic & Bird in the NCAA Championship game. Same timeframe as the US Olympic Hockey Miracle on Ice team beating the Soviets. Those were some great freaking years for sports nuts. KC even had their own NBA team back then & they were pretty respectable in their own right…

@globaljaybird I’m a bit too young to truly appreciate the Boson LA rivalry. I watched Jordan exclusively in the NBA. When he retired from the Bulls I quit watching the NBA. He was just too good/fun to watch, I couldn’t bare to watch inferior talent.

@dylans I thought Ainge had balls asking Regan if Series bonuses would ever be tax exempt. I can also recall watching Ainge play MLB at Royals stadium for, I think, Toronto.

@dylans Yes he did, & I’m about to head out the door or I’d google Ainge & Elway also-the latter may have been drafted by Baltimore? Don’t remember if he ever played though.

@globaljaybird Elway was a high baseball draft pick, but he never played as I recall.

It looks like Elway was drafted by KC Royals in 1979 out of HS. Too bad they didn’t lock him up that would’ve been great for the Chiefs!
Later he was drafted by the Yankees and Baltimore tapped him #1 in football. He demanded a trade or he’d go play baseball and the rest is history.

Dave DeBusschere also played both sports and is in the list of top 50 all time great basketball players; he was perhaps the best player during the Knicks glory days but you might be too young to have seen him play. Chuck Connors of “Rifleman” fame also played both sport but again, it was probably before your time.
