Sporting News Preseason Has Jayhawks # 1

Sometimes I love the hype, sometimes I don’t like the attention and the target on the back.
But since things are slow I will take the hype.

In other news, SB Nation has a blurb on the old KU MU rivalry.

I believe this poll is designed to give the squid cover by lowering the expectations for UK and it is quite different than any other I have seen. Closer to home, it has KU, ISU, OU and adds WVU to the top 25 and leaves out Texas and Baylor which most other polls have them in the top 25. Turgeon and Maryland are getting way too much love; they will be good, but #2? I don’t think so. I personally think that at at this time KU is a legitimate top 10 and borderline top 5, but certainly not #1…at least not yet…

@JayHawkFanToo IF Diallo can step in each and every game and impact it like he did the Nike hoop summit and McDonalds all American games then we could be scary good from day one! He will get tons of practice and couching this summer to prepare for the WUG against Ellis and Bragg. You just never know how fast these guys can learn HCBS system?
-
What? No Shakahorns? Where is all the love for the guy who is charging to the top, ready to takeover college basketball?
-
@JayHawkFanToo Never thought of the squid angle. You could be right.
I was surprised they left out Texas. In general I like UT, but not Shaka.
I hope he struggles even though we need better performance in the big 12. And I agree Maryland is getting too much love.
I suppose this pole is all about potential.
-
@drgnslayr As I posted earlier. I will enjoy it if he stumbles a bit.
-
Shaka Smart bringing the energy to Texas basketball (puke)

“I hope he struggles even though we need better performance in the big 12.”
I can go along with that. I’d rather see OU or ISU making a better name for themselves in college basketball. Lon and the Mayor are both quality coaches. I just want to see Texas start performing better in their sport… football.
And we have to figure this pigskin game out and start being competitive. It would lift us out of our financial worries, especially since implementing Title IX.
-
@drgnslayr I took a hit from Title IX and was bitter about it until my daughter got involved in sports.
She has done alright, but I seriously doubt she’ll ever play in college because she wants to attend a big school.
I sure hope we’ve got football on the right track.
-
@RockChalkinTexas Like I said before; if he tells Ridley to haul ass, he’ll be makin’ 2 trips
-
@drgnslayr He’s going to run his presses, and get his brains beat out in the Big 12. OU, the Clones, and of course, KU, will rout him. Come to poppa, Smarty. Try and press our guards…
-
The full court press works best against team with average or poor PG such as those in the smaller conferences The major conferences tend to have quality PGs and the 40 minutes of hell does not work as well unless they are caught unprepared. There is a reason you just don’t see that in the NBA, the PGS are just too good. Smart will have to come up with a new gimmick.
