Been a while since we did this…. Who’s still with us? Hope you are all well. Our community is special. Ive loved kicking through the offseason so far with you guys. The nature updates and the joy of KU baseball success have been fun, besides speculation on the bball roster.

I'm still here. Still sane is debatable
Been a bit going on lately. Need to replace the insulation in the attic, it's been long overdue. Got new carpet earlier this year as well. Last time that was done... 2008 so hopefully it's a good luck charm for KU.
For better or worse, got back into Magic the Gathering. First time buying sealed product in around ten years and not to be a boomer but the qc has gone to shit. Fun to play again though.

@BShark may your new carpet offgasing be brief and your mtg mechanics be synergistic in unforeseen delightful ways. Fairly recently we got a few boxes of mtg avatar set. Artwork was true to the show and pretty.

@approxinfinity Edge and Outlaws brought me back in. Fantastic flavor. Easy to burn out with how much product they pump out these days.

Ok did not know there was an MTG following in this group! My buddy got me into it right after the lord of the rings set and I’m hooked. Play mostly commander at this point but love going to more releases. I might skip marvel though.

But to the original purpose of the thread, I’m still here. Feel like I’m just holding on for the ride since 2020. Lost a few people, partner has stage 4 breast cancer, her mom has stage 1. My partners non profit also went under so she’s without a job. My team of five at work has been cut to just me for next year. But still kicking. Really wish the Jayhawks would get good again. But we have a 2.5 year old who makes it all worth it. Rock chalk jayhawk were within his first 20 words. lol

My condolences, cancer really sucks. If I remember right, you are a teacher? Seems like more people are leaving that line of work than joining these days.

@BShark moved to the district level a few years back. The funding for education in Texas is a mess. Add that in with a government purposely trying to dismantle public education and yeah, a lot of folks are leaving or being cut out. I’ve been lucky to work with great people who really care but sucks that they get cut while others without the skills and passion end up making more and failing upwards. Dont think thats just an education problem though.

In the thick of Baseball season currently with my son and he’s having an excellent season so far. Coaching one of his two teams for the first time after being a helper off and on at times over the past few years. His other team is a travel team so we are on the road a lot and both leagues are ongoing at the same time so lots of fun managing the logistics. My son is also a pitcher and a good one at that so I’m constantly juggling how much rest his arm needs. Overall though it’s a fun journey to be involved with as a parent now.
Also in the middle of several home projects, flooring in our downstairs, new roof and some kitchen upgrades.
Took the boy to a Redsox/ Yankee game in Fenway. Had never been and it’s iconic so that was a great bday gift and glad we did it. Won’t be our last
I’m hopeful others will share their story whether positive or negative

@benshawks08 im really sorry to hear about your partner. I have had that thought about just holding on for the ride many times since 2020 as well. i think we are all in various states of disarray and disconnect these days, but i remain deeply hopeful that there are moments of beauty and connection ahead.
As for MTG i have basically retired from it after playing a shit ton of arena. Many many decks with the one ring and sheoldred the apocalypse. That was around the height of my interest. Id reinstall arena and play a few games with you if you have arena cards from then. Dm me.

@approxinfinity I know it wasn't directed at me but I uninstalled arena for my mental health. From what I've seen the eternal formats on there are as broken as ever.

@BShark yeah i really soured on the bullshit cycling subscription games.
If you want to play an indy mobile game that is extremely well balanced, no DLC and obviously a labor of love, try Slay the Spire, or Balatro. Those two cured me of Arena.
What i really love about Spire is that everything is configurable so after you beat it you can find ways to challenge yourself. Its clear the developer just wanted to give something really good to people.

Yea, like with many others, it’s been a rough year with loss and family tears.
Just lost my poor mom.
Not fully paying attention to the world outside my immediate focus, but still attempting to track roster construction.
Hoping by the time my misery clears, we’ll have a full team of players to discuss.
