Ranking centers for 2025-26

Saw a Sports Illustrated article that ranked Flory Bidunga as the likely 6th best college center for the coming year. From SI: 6. Flory Bidunga, Kansas A former five-star recruit, Bidunga seems primed to explode as a sophomore taking over for Hunter Dickinson as the starting center at Kansas. He’s not your traditional Kansas center, lacking some of the usual post-scoring skill that Bill Self has traditionally valued. That said, Bidunga is a pogo-stick athlete who is elite at protecting the rim and should be a huge asset as a lob target for Darryn Peterson.
They also ranked Zuby Ejiofor at number 1.

We chose Hunter Dorkenson over him

I believe some of us threw up in our mouths a little bit at the time.
-
I hated losing Zuby when it happened but he wouldn’t have made a difference the last two years… would’ve been just like Hunte having 3or 4 around him at all times.
-
Good for Zub… He put his time in and improved his craft. Hard to say what would have happened if he had stayed. I think many of us have come to believe Hunter was good on paper, but his overall impact was a deficit. He also liked to say controversial things and I just don’t think that has a positive impact on the team. Makes me think back at the Morris twins. Anyways… looking forward… and I’m a Flory fan and believe this year will be quite the ride! Anyone predicting National Championship?! I’ve been spending extra time watching DP’s high school days. This kid is a basketball savant! I know he is jumping up a level, but how can his game not translate to college… and quickly the NBA?! I have to admit I see some Kobe in him!

He was a starter who ran when competition was brought in. Zuby sucks. At least Hunter (who was not good for KU) bought in. Zuby is a loser, I don’t care about anything he does elsewhere - it’s all KU or nothing and he accomplished absolutely nothing for KU. The rest of college basketball and the NBA doesn’t exist as far as I’m concerned.

@approxinfinity I mean this is KUbuckets right? Not St Juan’s buckets or wherever that ex Jayhawk plays at. None of that once a Jayhawk always a Jayhawk bs, if you leave for another program you’re a turncoat.
-
@dylans Hunter didn’t buy in. He just wanted money. You could tell by watching him that he didn’t take his conditioning seriously
-
@Jhawk69 great point
-
In fact I think St Johns got Zuby for a steal if I recall. Kid wanted to work his ass off and play.

Did he though? He had an avenue to minutes at KU and chose to flee to a place that promised him minutes instead of an opportunity to earn them.

Also less than two weeks before he transferred out Zuby looked me in the eye and said he would be the next great KU center - well after Hunter was inked. He lost any and all credibility with me then as his true character showed thru. My personal experience with the guy has developed my opinion of him. Newspaper clippings seem to be the reason people like him here. I will never support someone who lies to my face.

Re-read the transfer thread thru the 1700s comment mark to get the in the moment feelings of posters. Now with hindsight it’s a different vibe and everyone knew Zuby would be a stud.
I’m not sure why so many are stuck on the past. He’s not a current or future Jayhawk. Zuby doesn’t matter.

I’m curious if Flory were to blow out his knee if KU would pay him for his re-hab year since his deal seems to be very year to year. For any player that hasn’t tried to transfer out this would be an ethical dilemma. For Flory it would just be business. Would his salary be worth it if he wasn’t playing? Would they stand by him like they did Elmarko even though Flory didn’t stand by KU and conduct his salary negotiations in private?
