February 10: News Headlines Digest

  • I tend to agree with JNew that Southwell can do some heavy damage shooting long 2’s or 3’s to get guys away from their rebounding responsibilities. But I think we can check Foster with the Wigs/Selden duo fairly well. We have tremendous size & quickness advantages at about every position especially in the paint, so if Joel & Tarik can stay on the floor, I think we sneek out with a narrow win. If Tharpe or Mason have to match up with Foster very much, he could go off for 20+ again, & if that happens, we may be licking our wounds tomorrow.

  • @globaljaybird, what is the word on their newly eligible player, Javon something? Is he a difference maker that could make them a substantially tougher out?

  • What kind of defense do you think Kstate will play on us? I think they’ll pack it in.

  • @approxinfinity This thread isn’t showing up on the main page for me. I had to track it down through your comments.

Does anyone else think Mr. Weber looks like Smart’s buddy Mr. Orr? Maybe they are cousins…

  • What does EMAW mean?

Every Mildcat A Wuss! Even in Manhattan, Allen West?

  • Javon Thomas played 28 minutes (2nd most) in the game at AFH and scored 9 points. Foster and Gipson are the go to guys and Southwell can be dangerous from deep; last year he had a good game at Bramledge.

I am confident our bigs can keep Gipson under control but Foster can and likely will be a problem. He went off for 34 points against Texas and penetrated at will and scored at the rim against Texas front line; he could give our guards fits and hopefully Embiid can block his first couple of shots, make him think about penetrating and take that edge away. He is still their best 3 point shooter and maybe Selden can help Tharpe and Mason preventing him from scoring from the outside like he did with Heislip.

Last year the game in Manhattan was close and a blowout at AFH. I am sure that tonight’s game will be a lot closer than the one at AFH. KSU has momentum after thumping Texas. Bramledge will be all amped up and they will be eager to get back at KU for the beating at AFH. I think the game will be close and one of the teams, hopefully KU, will pull away towards the end.

In view of the OSU meltdown, looks like from the remaining road games, this will be the toughest test. A win tonight and I cannot see any other team catching up.

  • It’s funny that tonight will be a packed house, because when they destroyed #15 Texas last week the place might have been half full.

  • @JRyman

It will be a packed house all right, no question about it.

I am now wondering that, if in view of what transpired at TTU, some of the more obnoxious signs will not be allowed…

  • @jaybate 1.0 -Have not had time to research him-have been nursing my best friend Woodrow the past week & keeping up other responsibilities as well. Woody is occupying a lot of time now but he deserves it. As people, we have other aspects of life-jobs, friends, hobbies, interests, etc. As pets, we are all they have plain & simple, so he’s become my utmost immediate priority. But really, he’s always been treated that way. He’s had a wonderful life and given back far greater than he ever received. The very least we can do is make him as comfortable as possible as he winds down. It’s difficult for me to leave his side for short periods and even harder to speak of it & reflect on the wonderful dedication & love he’s given us all these years. He is struggling now but not suffering-how soon we’ll get there we just don’t know. Right now we’re all plugging away one day at a time & will try to keep up posts as I can, so please forgive me if I do cannot respond for awhile.

  • @globaljaybird

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. No question that our pets are part of the family.

  • This is the game that really counts.

Forget “the B12 championship goes through AFH.”

    It simply isn’t true.

“The B12 championship goes through the Octagon!”

Here is a stat to prove it:

KSU, for instance, is 13-1 in Big 12 play (29-2 overall) in Bramlage under Weber. The Wildcats’ only league home loss was last year’s 59-55 decision to the Jayhawks.

The Purple Kitties have only beaten us twice in 25 tries on their home court. Meanwhile… they do an excellent job of holding court against the rest of the B12.

We win tonight and we will hold on and at least share the conference title.

Nice to see a photo of TRob again! Anyone have an update on his progress in the league?

  • @globaljaybird

I am so sorry to hear about you friend, We lost our two dogs not that far apart a couple of years ago and I still miss them very much and I have still not been able to bring myself to get another one; maybe in time I will.

  • @globaljaybird Is that Woodrow in your avatar? Sharp looking dog. Sorry for the now, but glad you had the companionship up to the end. I’ve loved every one of my dogs, most have come to me as strays and that makes them fiercely loyal.

My prayers are with you in this trying time. Hope the game tonight offers a good distraction.

  • @drgnslayr & JayhawkfanToo-Thanks a bunch men, I really do appreciate your thoughts. We go back to the Dr again in the morning. If you see my avatar change, you’ll know the time has come.

  • @dylans

Dang…I always thought it was “e-meow,” as in little kitties crying. 🙂

  • @JRyman

It will be a packed house all right, no question about it.

I am now wondering that, if in view of what transpired at TTU, some of the more obnoxious signs will not be allowed…

Yeah right, K-State would hate to see a KU player nationally disgraced and suspended.

  • @globaljaybird I lost my best buddy a little over a year ago, unless you have had a best buddy, you can’t understand! Just wanted to share a happy memory, Zak, not real name, would go to door every time I yelled during KU games. You know, that’s a lot of times. His last year I started tearing his treats into small pieces(pregame ritual) and every time I got excited I’d give him a piece. He loved it and would bark when I got excited. Needless to say, he became a great KU fan! Peace my friend!

  • @globaljaybird You’re in our thoughts man.

My brittany spaniel has been gone for 21 years and not a day goes by that I don’t miss him.

  • @dylans

I cannot imagine any of our players doing that. However, I am going to guess the Conference has issued guidelines to the schools about controlling fan behavior, this is why I think some signs that may have been allowed last week may not be tonight.

  • Gotta love the support and nothing but support for posters here. I was blasted by a few (supported by most) on the Facegate site for venting about the loss of my bro. I would expect nothing, but support and love from the posters in this site.

Here’s to a better class of like-minded individuals! Thanks again Aprox. For all your efforts.

  • What if we start a thread where everyone can post their best friends wearing Jayhawk gear or whatever?

It would be a beautiful tribute to our best friends. And they love Jayhawks, too!

I remember a long long time ago… my best friend… and a photo of her sleeping with a stuffed Jayhawk. Don’t know if I can find that photo… but it is worth sharing.

    I know I’d love to see everyone’s friends…

  • @globaljaybird I’ve always thought it isn’t fair that our four-legged friends time on earth is so short. They give us so much and all they ask in return is a pat on the head, or scratch behind the ears, some food and water. Although my 85 pound big baby in my avatar also asks that I hold him in my lap when it’s thundering outside. I’ve always loved your signature comment. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your buddy.

  • @globaljaybird

I have always considered my dogs to be part of my family and I know most dog lovers do as well. As members of our families, they are also members of the extended Jayhawk family.

  • @globaljaybird

    “Prayer for globaljay and Woodrow”

Woodrow saw globaljaybird and his family through thick and thin, Spare him and them from the pain they are in. If it is his time, then let him run long and play soon in the fields of The Lord. But if he were spared by your infinite grace to live among them another spring; Then let him lie down without pain at Globaljay’s feet this winter again, And bring love and devotion among his family and him. Amen.

  • @globaljaybird I’m very sorry for your burden right now. I will definitely keep you and your family in my prayers. Every one of us who have had pets have had our hearts broken at one time or another.

  • To all my friends at kubuckets,

Men, believe it or not, your kindness in posts & comments really do mean a lot to us. May I please, in absolute & total humility, present to each & every one of you who have created this unprecedented “fellowship of board rats” theme, my sincerest & most heartfelt gratitude for your prayers & condolences. All things must pass as has been stated before & it has been an absolutely unique & wonderful privilege to have one so loving, warm, & gratuitously soft & tender for so long, at my side. I didn’t even mind the loss tonight as we were once again totally best buds, snuggling & watching on the sofa as game played out. Again my friends, my most heartfelt gratitude is yours for the taking. If ever anything is your desire or need, please know that all is yours that is at my disposal. We may be anonymous now but rest assured I am a grown & mature man & a real person who knows & understands the correct thing to do when necessary. All you need do is request. And may I add, as my Dad once said to me, & the daily example I’ve tried to follow my entire life, " I’d run through hell in a gasoline suit if a man just asked me right." Once again men, & ladies as well, our most endearing & heartfelt thanks.

    Sincerely,

Phil & AKC Boxer, “DAD’s Handsome Woodrow”

  • @globaljaybird you are most welcome, God bless!
