How much do college coaches feel affected by Big Shoe?
-
Here’s what a CBS Sports poll had to say.
-
@konkeyDong I wish they had narrowed the survey to " how many top recruits are swayed by Big Shoe". I think it would’ve been much higher.
-
@konkeyDong Huh, thats pretty interesting.
-
Bump.
-
@KUSTEVE is that your bday?
-
Prosecution rests.
No, heck no!
Let’s rub it in.
Is this a bit like asking hungry residents of a company town if they are ever price gouged by the company store?
Notice the quotes were unattributed, too. That makes me wonder if the only way they could get responses was a promise the shoe companies would not learn their identities.
42% was an even bigger number than I would have expected from coaches depending on the reputed shoe conveyor for future recruits, to say nothing of all the coaches getting shoe money directly through shoe contracts and indirectly through camps fees at camps with reputed shoe tie ins.
It also appears to suggest the other 58% might be getting the crucial players they need from their brand alliance.
I wonder if Cal answered that he never lost a player because of shoe co influence? I suspect maybe so.
Here is an even better survey question.
Have you ever landed a player because of shoeco influence?
Question for you, konkeyDong: logically assuming our online community is too small and insignificant to have brought this issue to the attention of national media, who in professional journalism has been responsible for bringing the petro-shoeco influence in recruiting and coaching and athletic departments back into some focus, after it seemed to have been shall we say undereported pretty much since Dan Wetzel’s “Sole Influence” back in 2000, or so? Anyone in particular for us to thank?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 No maam.
-
@KUSTEVE it ain’t gonna happen brother - now if KSU ever wins a national championship in basketball - might be the time!
-
“Notice the quotes were unattributed, too. That makes me wonder if the only way they could get responses was a promise the shoe companies would not learn their identities.”
Not only was that part of it, but you have to wonder how many of the “no” response coaches lied because they feel like they are in a good spot with shoe companies? And how many didn’t want to risk that their anonymity would be lost? They possibly risk everything if they tick off BigShoe.
It’s like asking a Russian federal minister if he thinks Putin is doing a good job… sure… anonymity…

HOWLING!!
-
@nuleafjhawk ??? What’s not going to happen?
-
@KUSTEVE I assumed your " 9-23-2015 " signature was referring to the rumored apocalypse? If not, my apologies!
-
@nuleafjhawk The apocalypse? I haven’t heard that one. I heard cataclysmic event, supposedly in my neck of the woods. Just curious why there are so many references through the years from Hollywood about it. Is it another December 21st, 2012 moment, or Y2K? Or is there a reason the Pope is in Washington that day at the White House? Inquiring minds want to know. Maybe I should go visit Kansas that week…
-
@KUSTEVE Knowing you, you probably just picked a random date so that the rest of us dummies would start spouting random hypothesis. Congratulations!
-
I made a lot of money on Y2K. Starting to wish I had invested that in special water storage containers for basements and specially packaged crackers. Not for me… to sell. if $#it hits the fan I’ll be out in wilderness… doing the same thing settlers did a couple hundred years ago. But instead of hiding from Native Americans I’ll be hiding from everyone!
-
@nuleafjhawk We live in very interesting times.
-
Are the times really that interesting, or is it that media builds it up to be so interesting?
The stock market makes a needed correction actually on cue… a normal event to occur after a long bull market… and everyone goes into a deep panic and buys saltine crackers. I wish I owned the manufacturing on crackers…
The media fights for ratings and generates complete nonsense “news” based mostly on dramatics to draw people in.
If you want to take a big tablespoon serving of reality… have two screens and run current daily news on one and on the other show vintage daily news from a couple of decades ago.
-
@drgnslayr I wish and hope you’re right.
-
@drgnslayr No Ak-47 school shootings until a couple of decades ago. Some things are definately worse. Some are better.
-
@drgnslayr you make too much sense some times.
-
@approxinfinity ha ha sometimes?
-
I thought that using the term “cracker” is now judged to be offensive…
