  • What a motor. Imagine having this guy for 4 years?! At least we have him one!

    @drgnslayr

    With that kind of motor? He can leave after one year if he gives KU a Championship next year. In so many ways I felt cheated with Embiid. He got hurt and we never got to see what could’ve happened. Maybe this is God saying lets try this again. 😉

  • @DoubleDD I still think Embiids handlers (or whoever) wouldn’t let him play!

  • @Crimsonorblue22: Since Joel is under contract in the NBA and did not play at all this season, Embiid’s handlers (or whoever) would seem to have made a sensible decision. Who knows? Maybe Coach Self was the “whoever”.

  • @EdwordL it wasn’t coach! This was after back problem, not his foot. I get what you are saying.

  • @DoubleDD You said, “He can leave after one year if he gives KU a Championship next year.”

    I take it you mean NCAA championship.

    And that is really it, isn’t it? Unless you win the NCAA championship, it is a waste of time and resources. Because without a championship (a real one), you could be getting someone else ready for the next year’s run. If you win the NCAA title like Duke, it’s all worth it.

    I would add that winning conference and being a good team is important too. But Self has proven he can do that without OADs. Meaning, we don’t need OADs to win conference and be a good team. Of course, we don’t need them to win an NCAA title because Self already did that without one OAD.

    But in the case with Diallo, if we couldn’t have that next tier guy, at least it will take minutes away from our depth in the post.

    @HighEliteMajor

    Yea I did mean national Championship. There’s no denying that you can win a NC without OAD’s but even those teams usually have some star player or two that was over looked or didn’t evolve into a great player, until after a few years in the college game.

    I’m not a big fan of the OAD craze either, however I except things for what they are. Until something changes KU has to recruit the OAD’s. Also keep in mind taken a lesser talent hoping they blossom into a great player is no different than rolling the dice on a OAD. You just never know.

    Now you can’t take a lesser player a make them a solid player, but even these kids find themselves overmatched when facing better talent.

    As I’ve said before I don’t have the answers. I just don’t see how KU and HCBS can say we aren’t recruiting OAD’s and take their ball home. It would be bad on all fronts. Especially those that pay money to endorse the KU program.

    I will say this I really like the veteran team we have coming back and the additions of Bragg and Diallo. I just hope HCBS doesn’t over recruit Greene and Svi. I think that would be a big mistake.

  • Without the assist of the refs, Wisconsin should have won the tile and that would have made it two years in a row for Non-OADs over OADs.

    @JayHawkFanToo

    Ifs and buts are like horse shoes and grenades. Could’ve, should’ve, but didn’t.

    I’m not really arguing recruiting OAD’s versus taking project players.

    However nobody seems to know the answer to my question? So KU and HCBS are supposed to just pass on great talent so they can get a project player that may take 2 or 3 years to teach? Come on. Really? So your telling me KU and HCBS should come out in the media and say we isn’t recruiting OAD’s?

    If HCBS did that and didn’t win a conference championship and God forbid didn’t make the tourney we KU fans wouldn’t have to worry about him heading to the NBA. There would be a lynch mob to run him out of town. It wasn’t to long ago a lot of KU fans were asking for HCBS job because he wasn’t recruiting to the level of the Dukes and UK’s of the world. Remember that?

    It’s easy for us to sit here and speculate recruiting project players versus OAD’s is the way to go. However KU is bigger than it’s fan base. There are sponsors, donors, media outlets, and even the Big 12 to answer too. Not only that but if the conference realignment merry go round starts up again I think we would want KU to be at top or as close to the top of the college basketball world. And being a destination spot for the top recruits in the nation is apart of that recipe.

  • @DoubleDD

    My point was that you don’t necessarily need OAD talent to win the NCAA, just good talent and a heaping helping of luck. If there is justice in the world, Wisconsin would have won the Title and for the second year in a row a team without OADs would have won the title.

    @JayHawkFanToo

    To tell you the truth as you most likely have seen. I’m not really a OAD kind of Fan, but I except it because it is what it is.

    What I don’t like is over recruiting guys we already have. To me that just seems counter productive. I get recruiting Bragg, and Diallo as KU is really weak in the paint, but I’m afraid HCBS is going to over recruit Svi and Greene. To me that just seems wrong. I just don’t see any OAD being that much better than those two.

  • @DoubleDD so BG coming off surgery will be better than brown? No off season workouts, just rehab? I hope Svi has improved, I think he will. I’d take brown, rather have had ingram.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

    I would take the 7’ Greek over either of them as he seems to be a player that will stay in the system longer.

  • @DoubleDD I would have to agree with you. When you have the core group of players that are upperclassman, you will get a mass exodus. Which then you need immediate impact guys to fill the void. Or if you are particularly weak in one area, these OAD do the trick by putting a finger in the leak. But it rubs me the wrong way when we recruit over guys with players who are on campus or 9 months.

    At the same time, it’s impossible to predict which players leave or get injured. So you have to get the most talented players available. It’s a vicious cycle.

  • @JhawkAlum Hmmmm. It’s almost as if there should be a committee that says if you go to college, you go for 4 years. Or maybe parents should actually want what’s best for their kids. “Go to school. Get your degree. If you’re NBA good, then your degree should be in business or finance so you won’t be destitute 5 years after you get out of the NBA.” (Or sooner)

    I refuse to by the BS argument that some of them need the money. If they’ve survived until they’re 18, they’ll survive until they’re 21.

    OH, I forgot, I’m a dreamer. I long for the good ol days.

  • well certainly hold your breath for Brown. just finished reading an article off 247 sports, and he was giving BIG praise to Michigan & Kentucky. he talks about how he has so much family in Michigan, how his Uncle went to Michigan and his Mom, talked about how Berlein developed players you get what I’m sayin. he talked about maybe staying 2 years in college, talking about for what he wants to get accomplished its going to take 2 yrs at least. he said he knows there is people sayin he is ready but doesn’t know yet,Then on top of that was really high on Kentucky to you can read the article on 247 sports.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

    “I would take the 7’ Greek over either of them as he seems to be a player that will stay in the system longer.”

    The ultimate Christmas package would be Brown and the Greek. Brown to accomplish a potential NC next year and the Greek for a long term project and some experienced depth in future years. Plus, I’m pretty sure the Greek could help us in spots this coming year.

  • @drgnslayr

    The Greek kid is a long term project; he was rated 3 stars (I think) coming out of high school

  • @drgnslayr I’d like a trip to Maui for an early Christmas gift, if anyone has my name!

  • @nuleafjhawk how about to stop looking in the future and focus more on immediate gratification like everyone else. Gosh. Lol

    I think you are exactly right on needing the money. But it must be awfully hard to turn down the thought of being a millionaire in a few months.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 You don’t get Maui tickets without big bucks Williams fund donations. Small gym.

  • @sfbahawk 😭 guess you didn’t have my name?

  • @sfbahawk

    I would not worry about that. @Crimsonorblue22 has connections…
