Terminology Shifts To "Half-And-Dones" (HAD)

  • And we are all complaining about one-and-dones? Imagine having a player for only HALF a season?

“Maker told Yahoo.com at the Hoop Summit he will not play pro overseas next season, instead will go to college or a fifth-year prep school. Maker’s guardian, Ed Smith, told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi Maker will finish high school on Aug. 1, thus could enroll at a college for first semester or wait until December for second semester. The plan would be to turn pro after one semester in college.”

Top prospects to meet at Summit

    I hope he picks Kentucky!

  • @drgnslayr the more I hear about this Maker kid, I really hope we stay away from him. He has unique talent, but never thought he would be a good fit in Self’s system anyway and now with this type of talk, I think Kentucky is the best place for him.

  • @drgnslayr

I wonder why any college would want him?

  • @drgnslayr Yeah, eff that kid. What is this, a joke of some sort? A mockery he is making of college ball. Not that it needs any help at this point.

  • I’m curious, is there anyone here that thinks that Kansas should pursue him for 1/2 the season? I would love to hear the argument.

Seems like he’d really add to the chemistry in the locker room.

But ya gotta bring in the most talent, right?

“Mockery” is what @Lulufulu said. Seems to fit.

And yes, @drgnslayr, I also hope he picks UK.

  • @HighEliteMajor No way I would want him for 1 semester. I chuckled when I read his comment to that effect. Now…it is interesting…I bet some school would…somebody trying to raise their profile perhaps? But if I were advising the kid it would be…why bother for 1 semester?

  • I think he might have other stipulations regarding classes, practices and maybe even skip big 12 tourney, etc. why doesn’t he go to china?

  • This guy sounds like he would be a cancer wherever he goes.

  • My crystal ball tells me he will be sitting next to Skal on Tucky’s ineligible list.

  • Hearing this, and Zim wants to play “safe ball”… and I’m thinking… we are waiting for kids like these?

And on top of it all, who knows that the NCAA won’t come in later and pull the plug? Maybe that’s why they are talking about half a season.

  • @drgnslayr Some of our best recruits we’ve gotten have been as a result of “missing out”. There’s a diamond out there we’ll land, that probably isn’t on anyone’s list, that turns out to be a nice surprise.

  • @drgnslayr

    .5AD… Just shoot us all!

5 years from now: first ever 1.1.1.1 player. 1 game 1 minute 1 point 1st lottery pick

  • @jaybate-1.0

    Even one better…

    6 years from now:

    “Honorary-And-Done”

0.000 players (equivalent to their actual value… the first “what you don’t see is what you don’t get” players.

They visit Lawrence, they bring the hype, they sign the dotted line, and we get their college endorsement! I mean… the NCAA gets their commercial endorsement.

Ever wonder where those shoe companies spend all their earnings? On labs maybe? Breeding the next generation of super stars in a test tube with 9’ reaches and hands the size of watermelons. Eventually, players will grow two extra sets of legs. Imagine trying to stop them on the pivot?

  • I saw the video of the Skal Labissiere - Thon Maker practice and I am not impressed with either one. The scoop on Maker is that he is has huge potential but he is extremely unpolished at this time…yes, he can overwhelm HS kids but in college it would be a different story. I just don’t see who would be foolish enough to waste scholarship on player that obviously does not want to try very hard and play just one semester…I just prefer he goes somewhere else and take "I have a really bad attitude and a sense of entitlement " Zimmerman with him.

  • I hope Kentucky signs Maker and Zim asap… then it scares off all the guys that really want to play over to us!
