I’m pretty sure that just about everyone on this site are not huge Iowa State fans, but I know that everyone here will be keeping Fred and his family in their thoughts and/or prayers.
Get well soon Fred !!

@Crimsonorblue22 Good luck to The Mayor!! link text
The Mayo Clinic is ranked #2 in the country according to US News and World report for this exact thing. As a whole, Mayo is top 5 or 10 in the country as per the same standard. Freddy will be getting the absolute best care possible. They will watch him like a hawk 24/7 until they are sure he is safe to discharge home. He is young. Just a few years older than me. People our age heal much faster and are more resilient to this type of procedure than most people who need it. They typically are over weight, out of shape, 20+ years older. I know he will be just fine.
NBA? Yah, Im doubtful that he does that. I know I said he could but why would he risk it? It is a much longer season.

I think I remember a story on ESPN a while back aout George Carl and his heart problems. The TV crew filmed him while wearing his heart monitor which his doctors had installed to track his stress. During the game, which went into overtime, the heart rate was over 170 for a long period of time and the camera close ups showed him wiping sweat off of his entire head, which had very little hair anyway. I too have heart problems and to see Hoiberg have a second open heart and go right back into coaching gives me strength. Like @nuleafjhawk I too am not an ISU fan but I have so much admiration for the coaches and players that bust their ass trying to beat us and all of the other teams in the BIG 12.
-
@wrwlumpy those valves don’t last forever.
-
@Lulufulu will they watch him like a JAY-hawk?
-
Best wishes to coach Hoiberg hoping he will have swift and full recovery; the League can use more coaches like him.
Having said that, this is why he is highly unlikely to coach in the NBA or any other team (National) other than ISU.
-
Go Fred! We are pulling for you! Our hopes and prayers are for your speedy recovery!
-
I’ve always liked Fred, he is a class act. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 HA!
-
Gott darn it, Fred, you are going to feel fantastic when the sternum heals. Keep the faith. And don’t let the prospect of another beat down in AFH discourage you. You are in the class of opponents that could very well get a rocking chair when your last appearance rolls around 20 years from now!!!
Rock Chalk, Fred!

Anyone hear how the surgery went? Saw the thread title and realized that today is the day.

@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks for posting that. It’s very good news indeed.
Now we can kick his butt in the fall with a clear conscience.
-
Basketball aside, all prayers to Hoiberg and family. I’d rather be competing on the court than have him in the hospital.
Rock Chalk Mayor and best wishes

Just what he needs

@Crimsonorblue22 Lucky it was guys with no further eligibility this time.

In the mean time MU continues to scrape the bottom of the barrel, and KSU keeps losing players… makes you appreciate Coach Self and the KU program even more.
-
@JayHawkFanToo knock on wood!
-
@JayHawkFanToo I LOLed so freekin hard with the news of KSuck losing players! I couldnt care less about MU. Even if they did beg to come back to the Big 12 and we let them, they would be a door mat.

That is what you get when you hire a coach with girl’s name :)…just kidding, Kim Anderson seems to be a pretty decent guy that inherited a cesspool of a program. Mike Anderson jumped ship the first chance he got and Frank Haith was a stupid hire…but what can you expect from the program that selected Quin Snyder over Bill Self? Much like the Chiefs hiring Romeo Crennel, .you just don’t hire a coach with history of losing and expect him to suddenly start winning…plain dumb.
