OK so here is a question - something to think about.

  • Ok , so all of us here know what a great Coach Coach Self is .However a question looms - -How much longer does Coach Self continue to Coach ? - -endless possibilities yet what’s your best guess ? The main reason I ask this is because - stop and think about it - - -what does Coach have left to prove ? - To himself - -To KU fan base - - To College Basketball ? - -

Think about it, I mean as Selfish as we want to be wanting to stay for many , many years yet - -we know that’s not happening , but HOW MUCH longer does he stay? I’m not talking about him going somewhere else I mean just overall period before he says - -ENOUGH be able to enjoy family. - The reason is - like I said what exactly does he still have to prove? - Accomplish ?

Just stop and think about it he has : - - Won 14 straight regular season Big 12 Championships - - -He has won multiple NCAA Championship Titles - - He is a Hall of Fame Coach - - Not sure how many Big 12 Post Season Conference Championships he has won - -but Multiple. What else is there to do ? - -Oh sure we can say win another title - selfish sure but would be nice. We can say that - BUT I’m sure we know or have heard how draining / strainful / stressful recruiting can be - -time away from family /loved ones. - How much longer does he continue to put up with the NCAA bullshit until he just says - - screw this - - enough.

He very easily could just say he is done and be able to spend more time with family possibly grandkids just enjoying life–him and his wife Wanda ? - So how much longer - he has pretty much accomplished all that you can as a college Coach.

  • I’d guess 5 years tops, but I’d think it depends on the rest of the coaching staff. (He quits, those guys all have to scramble)

Wanda is Roy’s wife. Cindy is Bill’s wife.

Ya that’s right - -Cindy got them mixed up. - - Actually I was kinda thinking about the same thing maybe a couple of more 5-7 tops I think. - -Can’t be mad if he does though , he has nothing to prove --then the question becomes - who replaces Coach ? - I’m sure we wouldn’t have any trouble finding a top notch Coach -but let’s hold off on replacing him for awhile lol

  • I figure with the NIL stuff, college sports will be so corrupt in a few more years that I’ll lose interest in it about the same time Bill does.

  • 5 years I think is the max. I think coming into last year he wanted to win another title (most by a KU coach) , pass Phog in wins (most in Ku history) and see the end of the investigation with KU being in good shape. He already got another title, will for sure pass Phog in wins next season. I think he wants to be the best coach in kansas basketball history. I think he is already there IMO. Don’t take that the wrong way because Phog is impassable in terms of what he did to the game. Modernized it, was a key person in getting it to the Olympics and the national tournament we are looking forward to this month. There will only be one father of modern basketball til the end of time.

  • Hes so damn good at it, and NIL opened up the door for a coach like him to have a level playing field. I give him 5 maybe 6 maybe 7 more championship rings tops.

  • @jayballer67 Bill Self identifies as a basketball coach. What the heck would he do in retirement? Until he is feeble I don’t see him not coaching KU. I’m afraid he’s built like me - I’m going to work until I die because what else is there to do? I get antsy on a three day weekend and create work for myself.

not sure, I do know he mentioned in an interview he was like the Syracuse Coach or any others who went deep into the life span - -said he wanted to be able to relax and enjoy - -the recruiting process like I said and putting up with the NCAA crap wears on a person big time after so long – looking maybe 5 more maybe 7 tops

  • @jayballer67 I’ll believe it when I see it. He has also said he was wrong earlier in his career to put an end date on it. I can’t remember what arbitrary age he threw out, but as he got closer he said that ain’t happening. He’s accomplished enough to retire with no regrets, but I don’t think that really enters into the equation as long as he and his family stay healthy.

oh believe me I don’t want him too but yet if it happens - -it happens ain’t nothing we can do about it- -even IF it does turn out to be 5-7 years I’m ok with that

  • @jayballer67 what will be will be. I’m just not listening to any retirement noise. It’s premature at best. I mean no way he’s leaving KU for Carolina…

No , No bud - really no rumor of anything - -just something crossing my mind and things I had heard in the past - -IF he does leave - -it’s retirement - -retirement - -no pro gig - -no other College teams , it was just a random though and wondering in terms of years when it does happen - and we know sooner or later it IS going to happen.

Having said that even when it does we will still be fine. - -look how we did when Coach Williams was hired - Alot of people said WHO ? - no head Coaching experience and look how that turned out - -we will be fine - -But all of this is then - - WERE good now lol - - ROCK CHALK

  • Golf, golf and more golf! Gkids and gkids!

Lol.- - I’m telling ya I tried golf - myself my brother and my brother -in- law -played quite a few times - just couldn’t get it down. - There were times when I’d hit the ball and it felt good - -really good and thought - man that’s sweet. Then the very next time I would hit it think I had done the exact same thing and it turned out to be a real worm burner lol.

Then we decided just to go out and have fun - not be so serious. -I swear I can play the fastest 18 holes of golf as anybody in the World lol. - -I can tee off on first hole and it will land on 18 lmao - -my slice is so fricken bad. - Crazy to holler FOUR look out to see just how well you struck the ball look down and it’s about 6 feet from ya roflmao - - Oh those were the days - -never laughed so hard. - bottom line though we sure had fun

  • @jayballer67 ha. I’m so far removed from golf sounding fun. Maybe later!
