  • I would hope guys we don’t stat bagging on Quentin - -just didn’t work out - doesn’t mean he is not a good kid - just didn’t work - wish him the best - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • So Q goes from a OAD to a 3 year guy.

    @jayballer73 i missed that one… i’m surprised he would do that…

What did you miss buddy? - -surprised who would do what? - -sorry kinda thick lol

  • I ask those “once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk” folks — what you say now?

    Q?

    Q?

Best of luck to him, sorry it didn’t work out at Kansas.

  • I told y’all Q was transferring, my sources are usually spot on.

  • @HighEliteMajor He’s always a Jayhawk. I will not forget the season where he shot 38.4% from the field and played no defense. I wish him luck wherever he goes.

Quentin is STILL a Jayhawk - and always will be. - -I just posted hope we don’t start dogging on him - -not saying you are HighElite - just don’t want to see that - -not a good look. - -Quentin is a good kid - just didn’t work out

Quentin is a good kid & hope things work for him where ever he lands now - -He was a part of JayHawk Nation even if it was just the ONE year. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Me too buddy , how it works out - -he will be allright

  • Would love to know the rationale for that one…they really must feel he needs to get away from Self. Illusions of Grandeur, I think. Now he has to sit out. I do wish him well.

  • Bottom line is Grimes wasn’t a great fit with this KU group. It happens. Don’t forget that Malik Newman went to Mississippi St. as a projected OAD and ended up in college for three years after transferring here.

Right now a projected starting line up of Dotson, Garrett, Agbaji, De Sousa, and Doke.

If Enaruna does play next year, it seems like it’ll have to be a the 3 because KU doesn’t have much in the backc court right now. None of Enaruna, Braun, or McBride seem ready to play meaningful minutes out of the gate next year, but may have to due to lack of depth on the perimeter.

I’ll say right now that I think KU will have the best front court in the country next year with the 4 pieces we have in place currently. Self definitely needs a guard that’s ready to play now for back court depth.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 KU will push to add Jalen Wilson and Kyree Walker. Both would immediately slide into the guard rotation imo.

  • No offense to Grimes but I’m not disappointed to see him go. Best of luck to him but I want guys that play hard and want to win, not stand on 3 point line and chuck up bricks. Hes one of the laziest defensive players in memory, even Vick showed more on that end. Hopefully he can figure it out between the ears, this ain’t high school son.

I wish him the best going forward but he was one of the worst starters in the entire B12 last year.

  • @jayballer73 i knew for a fact that Q was buh bye, but then I let my guard down, and read a soapy article about Q and his struggles, and got to thinking he would come back.Of course, I felt like DD was gone, gone, gone. So, the thought of him transferring didn’t seem right, or even plausible with DD gone. But then DD pulls out, and a minute later, Q transfers. My question is…if DD had stayed in the draft, would Q be transferring? Could you imagine a Q/Marcus backcourt?

  • I’m thrilled with Dotson back. Frankly, I’d love another year where Grimes has to prove himself to the NBA–I still think he’s a legit stud, but just has to get a big chip on his shoulder.

I was wondering about if Devon DID stay put - -Q come back so he could play the point - -But I don’t know seems like a lot of , what is the word I’m looking for - -maybe just to much friction with all parties concerned - could of been a cancer in the end. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BShark no question

  • @jayballer73 I think he was indirectly blaming us for his struggles. The truth is, he couldn’t beat out DD for point guard. Very few players could’ve beat out DD- he’s just too good. I don’t know this as fact, but I get the feeling we had some pretty bad attitudes on the team last year. Maybe some entitlement issues were going on. Maybe some of the guys that outplayed Q weren’t fond of him starting no matter what … I’m not sure. But i do wonder if Q was the one coming back instead of DD if the team would’ve bought into the Q showcasing. I don’t want showcasers…I want team players that care about winning. nothing personal against Q, but i cannot imagine him being our #1 option. Trae Young redux???

I don’t have a ton of faith in landing either or both guys at this point. With the way recruiting has gone this year, Wilson probably ends up back at Michigan and Walker ends up staying 2020.

  • I’m relieved Grimes isn’t with us next year. Nothing on this roster jumps out as possible drama. Wish him the best. I think this is emotionally best for both sides. If Dotson had left and Q returned it would have been a strained marriage maintained out of necessity.

    KU or UNC.

Walker needs the grades is the biggest issue there.

  • I saw nothing last year to lead me to believe Q was anything other than what we did see. Good luck buddy.

The real larger issue is how we keep recruiting these guys. Guys who, with their families, are solidly deluded. Guys who, With their families, are not good fits for KU for a whole lot of reasons.

Maybe other schools have had the same challenges, but Man! We seem to have a solid list of busts. Brannon, Cliff, Preston, Vick (who was not a classic bust, but… ) who’s the guy who smoked pot all the time? please feel free to fill in more names here

    Yikes

  • Bragg

Honestly, Greene was fine. He contributed to wins.

Grimes ended up being a bad fit but it’s hard to turn down top 10 talent (perceived anyway) that is also a legacy.

  • Great news on Devon Dotson returning! Quentin Grimes was great against Michigan State. He is an excellent ball player and will continue to get better. Sad to see him go. From year one to year two can make a big difference.

  • Has Jaevin Cumberland signed yet? Have we talked to him?

  • Anybody heard anything from Vick?

Greene and Vick had mental health issues pop up at Kansas. Can’t really prevent that.

  • I know the Bragg for Cunliffe deal didn’t work out for either team…maybe a Grimes for Jaylen Fisher deal???

Stop the presses. Who is this @KansasComet? Nice to see you return.

Yes, he’s in Memphis. Had pressing family business to attend to.

  • Anyone know for sure Self didn’t just show Grimes the door? That’s the usual M.O.

    Mutual parting of ways.

  • KUSTEVE said:

wondering the same -still uncommitted -have we made contact with this guy?

  • I love Self’s comment about supporting his decision to transfer. That’s some backhanded support.

  • Well don’t think it would be a reach at all guys. - Enjoy Devon THIS year because after that - -all bets are off. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Divorces can be amicable. Sometimes things just don’t work out.

  • Damn. I’m actually excited about this team like 2011-12, only fearing injuries a lot less. No OADs needed. Plenty of pieces for Self to assemble.

  • @jayballer73 The guy shoots like Devonte and Svi from 3. I’m sure he’s probably looking for a full time gig. I think I’d rather get a guy like him, and play Ochai at the 3 than going for Jalen. That way, we have experience added to the lineup, and Ochai would get a full year starting. That would give our starting lineup a lot of experience- something we didn’t have last year.

  • @Woodrow That is hilarious…lol. Doogie Snotleib calls out Q…

Doug probably thinks someone will get a steal. hehehehe

  • Telling stat on Q. 3.6 rebounds per 40 minutes played. Agbaji - 7.1 Garrett - 6.0 Dotson 4.5.

    Effort.

  • @bmensch1 not sure you can transfer in the same conference

  • Crimsonorblue22 said:

@bmensch1 not sure you can transfer in the same conference

You can, you just lose a year of eligibility. I don’t think it would matter for Grimes since he won’t use all 4 anyway

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I didn’t think so…the comment was made in jest.

For q to be guaranteed a pg spot…he needs to go to a team with better than avg players in a shitty conference…or his stats arent good enough…so…no sec, no acc, pac12…no exposure.

So, I’m thinking he goes to marquette or Wichita state. I’m thinking he follows markus Howard at marquette

  • I forgot about this till just now…but you know what grinds my gears…when Q committed, I watched some 45 minute intro of all his team members and some bs pomp and circumstance that his high school coach made me watch. And they started like 15 minutes late. I should’ve known then that this son of a gun was just another bragg. Cliff, did the old hat thing…to date, still the only “hat” selection I think ku won. In short, if a kid can’t just do the normal thing and say I’m going to ku on twitter…my hopes for the kid are zero.

I’m a little bitter he’s transferred. I’ll still keep tabs and sort of root for him, but his story is screwy. He’ll go into my micah downs and Connor frankamp file of “yeah, I remember you”

  • @bmensch1 i think very similar to Downs. Weird dad, not nearly as good as he thinks he is, transfers and fades away. I will bet grimes never makes the league. Good riddance.

  • @Fightsongwriter

I’m with you. I would take bets right now on whether he makes the nba or not. Quentin G-league Grimes at best. Rather than “good luck”, I’m definitely more “good riddance” I’ve tried hard to adopt the “KU player for life” positive mentality that so many posters here have, but it’s not easy with some guys, and Grimes is one of them. He is a young man, and I suspect it’s his dad who is influencing him. I wouldn’t be surprised if his dad is already setting up meets with other programs, and compiling a list of expectations. “The ball has to go thru Quentin” … “don’t expect him to play any more D than would be asked of him in the NBA “…
