Just for giggles and grins

  • just curious , seeing as we are approaching that day - -Christmas was just bored today and thinking hmmm thought it might be kind of interesting to see the various combinations people came up with and thought for giggles I’ll give you mine - -you give me yours. - Give me if you were to make up a team of former Jayhawks with a roster of Nine players - -your best players you remember for your roster here is mine: Paul Pierce - - - Danny Manning - - Jo Jo Embiid- - starting front line. - -Backcourt - - Mario Chalmers- - -Frank Mason. - -playing 2 in & 3 out.

My four off the bench - - Nick Collison - - Raef La Frentz - - Josh Jackson & just a soft spot in my heart for Cedric Hunter - -( I know there are better then Cedric but just a favorite of mine )

Ok so there is mine. Come on let’s lighten things a bit have some fun - -bring back those all time favorites of yours tell me - -who you got. - - remember guys NINE PLAYERS - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Wilt Clyde JoJo have to be on any all time team I’d think so I’ll push Frank, JJ and Nick off of yours to make room

  • I’d say Frank Mason, Jo Jo white, Paul Pierce, Clyde Lovette and Wilt Chamberlain as starters with a bench of Nick Collison, Danny Manning, Mario Chalmers and Kirk Hinrich. Man that was hard

  • @kjayhawks wow the Ku all time leader in pts and boards, NPOY Danny Manning…coming off the bench!

Wilt, Clyde, Danny. Jo Jo White, and Frank

Bench: Mario, Ron Kellog, Pierce, Collison, Raef, Embiid

    Walk ons: Tehan and Moody

  • It is difficult if not impossible to assemble an all-time team because it is difficult to say how the various players that dominated at some time would have done in a different era. For example, how well players like Clyde Lovellete, Bud Stallworth, Bill Bridges, Dave Robisch and even Jo Jo White would have done against more recent and more athletic players? I know a Wilt would probably still dominate but he was a once in a generation type of player and athlete.

Perhaps if you restrict to maybe players of the last 20 or 30 years that most of us have actually seen play and area lot more familiar it might be a better discussion.

  • Starters: Mason, Hinrich, Pierce, Manning, Wilt.

    Bench: Mario, Collins, Collison, LaFrenz.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Bah Humbug! Wilt was the Babe Ruth or Wayne Gretzky of basketball. His stats just blow away all others. He was so much better than the average player it’s not even a discussion on whether he deserves mention! Now players did catch up to the Babe of course, and Lemieux came relatively close to matching Gretzky’s brilliance, but Wilt has numbers that no one has ever come close touching. I wish I knew why it didn’t translate to championships, but people here who are older than I have claimed he never had great teammates.

All the others OK, we can argue the merits of Danny, Clyde, JoJo, Bill Bridges. But Wilt, no, there’s no argument!!

(just debating, having fun, not mad)

  • Brandon Rush was so incredibly smooth on both ends of the floor that he is always criminally underrated to even knowledgeable Jayhawk fans. If he doesnt injure his knee in the offseason, he is off to the NBA and we don’t win in 08.

  • @JayHawkFanToo I think I’ve got to amend my statement. I misread yours a bit focusing on the last 20-30 years but yoiu acknowledged basically what I wrote. I won’t edit my post as I think it is brilliant. 🙂

I do want to quibble with @HighEliteMajor however as he left Clyde off of his team. He was a NPOY, 2 time All American, and of course a NCAA MVP. Hard to see him not being on an all time team for KU.

I’d say we can go big with Wilt, Clyde, Danny, and take your pick for the guards as long as one is JoJo!

  • @wissox

There is no question that Wilt was a once in a generation athletic freak that would do well even 70 years later.

The average athlete now is stronger, jumps higher and is faster than even the better athletes of 50 year ago, it is a natural evolution resulting from much better training, diet, technology and life styles now that were not available way back then. Because of these factors, comparing athletes from different eras is not easy or fair.

  • Wilt, plus any other 8 people that you’d like to pick out of the stands or rescue shelters.

  • 1 - JoJo White backups Mason and Vaughn

    2- Chalmers backup Hinrich

3- Pierce backups Rush then Wiggins

    4- Manning backup Collison

5- Wilt backups Clyde and Embiid

LaFrentz just missed my 13 man roster.

  • @jayballer54 Wilt, Danny, Paul, JoJo, Frank with Nick, Mario, Clyde & Brandon (or Maybe Kellogg for 30 point Saturdays)

  • @JayHawkFanToo Believe it or not I actually had thought about doing exactly that. - -But I wanted an ALL time so it was kind of hard to restricted it to the last 20 yrs, I think they would of done fine - - maybe not quite as well - but still really well. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
