Speechless on this, I didn’t make it without wiping my eyes. https://www.theplayerstribune.com/ben-heeney-raiders-brandon-bourbon-death-kansas-football/

Well, that was not a fun little story. I should have known better than to read it at work. Now everyone’s looking at me with those deer in the headlight eyes. I just told them it was because I watched the replay of the KU vs Oregon game at lunchtime…

I have had three very good friends do this exact same thing. I know how Ben feels. What should I have said? What should I have done? HELPLESS FEELING!!! May God rest his soul.

This was an incredible story.
After dealing with lots of teenagers and listening to them and working with kids who lost a friend or family member to suicide. All I can say is there are no answers.
There’s no right or wrong. You can do everything in your power and it’s still not enough.
It hurts.

I’ll be honest when I say I probably shouldn’t have read this at the office. I need a good walk after that. It’s a reminder that we all have to be aware of those we are close to when they are struggling.

“Brandon deserved better, he was unlucky”. Truer words have not been said, I was amped for his senior year before the ACL injury. I think he could’ve been a great back. I understand his pain it’s so hard to have your body let you down. I always feel connected to our players, they really do mean a lot to me.
