The flopping has hit youth ball

  • It’s Happening: Basketball Flopping Has Hit The Youth (VIDEO) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/11/basketball-flopping-has-hit-the-youth_n_5134163.html

  • @JRyman

I thought the rule interpretation changes in college basketball would create a basketball armageddon in March. It didn’t really happen and I was wrong. But I also predicted a year where flopping would become bigger in college basketball because of the changes…

I guess one out of two ain’t bad!

Might as well teach our young to deceive right out of the gates. We are sending the message that deception helps create victories. And if it is right to deceive in one area, why isn’t alright everywhere?

  • @drgnslayr I know there was talk last year or the year before about if a player flops he will be talked to, if he does it again they get a warning the next is a T. That’s three chances to flop and get a call against the other team.

The rule needs to be if a player flops and it is obvious then he is accessed a personal foul. If it continues its a T. The only problem would be stopping the game for another review of some kind.

But in the case when Seldon swung his elbow within a foot of Smarts face and he went down, they were already reviewing for head contact. They need to be able to wave off the elbow call and and gave Smart a PF for his faking it.

I mean what real guy likes it when someone fakes it?

  • @JRyma

    Too funny…

" I mean what real guy likes it when someone fakes it?"

Damned if I know, I have to take someone else’s word for it !!

    LOLOL

  • @JRyman

If I was king of basketball… flopping would be gone. I’d give the first one the same penalty as a flagrant 1, the second call would be the same penalty as a flagrant 2.

And I agree with you, that they should overturn the live call on the floor when that happens. It makes no sense to penalize a player who did nothing wrong.

A couple of shots and the ball out… those can really turn a game quickly. I’m pretty sure the big flopping would be over.

  • @drgnslayr I would give them something to flop about,

  • The NBA has rules in place to penalize flopping; all potential flops are reviewed after the game and penalties are issued. Penalties start with a warning for the fist flop, $5K for the second and go up by $5K with every subsequent flop. During the playoffs, the warning is removed and the first flops gets a $5K fine and so on.

Th D-League now does a video review of alleged flops at the first stoppage (so the game flow is not interrupted) and if it finds flopping, a technical is assessed to the flopper. This is probably the model the NCAA should adopt initially and increase the penalty to game suspensions for repeat offenders.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Well if they are going to pay college athletes,

    THEY SHOULD FINE THEM TOO!!!

  • @JRyman

College athletes are already well compensated. If they are going to pay them additional money then what is the use of having college sports? Might as well let schools have their own professional teams, much like counties such as Mexico, do with soccer teams.

  • @JayHawkFanToo very true. I am just saying if they want MORE money then they should have to pay fines.

Let coaches fine players too, so Tharpe getting a nude selfie would be a $500 fine. Marcus Smart’s pushing of a fan would be set by the Conference, but his kicking of the chair would get him fined by his coach or school, if they don’t step up then the conference would.

Get a technical foul, you get fined and so on, but the biggest fine should be for flopping, it’s ridicoulous it is even allowed.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 +100 Yeeeaaaaaahhhh, that’s what I’m talkin’ about !!

  • @JRyman “I mean what real guy likes it when someone fakes it?”

Hey, at 65 I don’t care if she fakes it or not. I’m just happy I wasn’t flopping. (beer)

  • @brooksmd NICE!!!

  • @JRyman

"Well if they are going to pay college athletes,

    THEY SHOULD FINE THEM TOO!!!"

They could just levy against their pay… it’s a fine against earnings.

“Get a technical foul, you get fined and so on, but the biggest fine should be for flopping, it’s ridicoulous it is even allowed.”

    I’m loving that! Great idea!

    @brooksmd - Bingo dat!
