Swinging... a 3 and a 4...
-
Help me out Bucketeers…
Let’s see… we’ve had some pretty outstanding swing forwards lately… Wiggins, Oubre, Jackson.
But where is this going now? Are we making our swing player from a 4 instead of a 3 next year with Preston?
-
@drgnslayr From what I’ve read about him he has the offensive ability to play the 3 or 4, but can he defend a 3, or is he even interested in playing D?
-
@Ralph if he wants to play for Self he better play D!
-
Aren’t we saying that Bill will keep to a 4out-1in next year?
I don’t see Billy being a back-to-the-basket guy.
-
I think we will look a lot like this line up we currently have. Which I don’t think is much different than Perry LY. He wasn’t a true forward, he got most his points from jump shots or driving from the top of the key. He wasn’t a back to the basket type of player. Im really hoping Doke turns in to that, I’m not sure we have had a true post player on offense that can score since Trob, maybe Withey. Obviously Joel was but he wasn’t playing late in the year when it mattered most.

)My fav Tarik memory

@truehawk93 mine too! Love that guy! Really happy for him. Super blessed he was here a year.
-
So, in a way, weren’t we sometimes playing a 4out-1in when Perry was here? It seems like his junior year he started playing out on the perimeter more, hitting treys. It seems like his senior year he was in the paint, back to the basket, grinding out his points.
-
@drgnslayr he shot more 3s as a senior. Perry wasn’t a back to the basket player much at all.
-
I might have recalled it wrong. It seems like one year he put up a lot more 3s than the other years.
-
@drgnslayr he gained confidence w/time.
-
@drgnslayr Perry Ellis career stats at KU
Shot the most 3s, with a good percentage, his final year.
-
@drgnslayr no big deal, I just want a true post that a team has to respect offensively, sorry LL love ya and you have grown a ton but you ain’t got much offense. I think it opens up the floor so much better for driving lanes and eats up a double team most of the time.
-
I hear what you are saying. I’d like to have 1 big post guy that can really score in the post, but also rebound and definitely block shots.
Doke? Maybe. There is a big unknown with him and his injury. Hard to say when he can go 100% without issues with that hand. I know it sounds like a “small injury” when comparing to knees and such. But actually, tendon damage can be a long haul for recovery and he may have to deal with quite a bit of agonizing pain through the process.
I hate to be a Negative Ned, but we may never see much production out of Doke. We may just see him put up average numbers next year while he still heals and learns D1 and then he may be gone! I hope this isn’t the case!

@drgnslayr ya I feel for the kid, sitting there knowing how much he could help this team and not knowing if we will be as good next season. I would say it was good timing for an injury (injuries are never good) because he should be working on rehabilitation for half the summer and all of fall before practice starts. Where if this had happened recently we would have to learn to play without him and he probably would miss sometime next season because of it. If we don’t get to the FF I’ll always wonder how much Doke could’ve help us along the way.
