"Baylor just 20 minutes away from their first victory in Allen Fieldhouse..."
-
@JayHawkFanToo Baylor had 3 guys w/lots of boards!
-
They are a good rebounding team, so I guess we did well to hang with them.
-
@jaybate-1.0 it’s under
You all were right, Cliff is a starter.
-
Baylor only played 8 players, one played just a few seconds when Medford fouled out… 6 players used up 188 of the 200 minutes or 94% or available playing time.; that is one short bench…
-
In answer to the questions about whom to root for…My philosophy is to root for ISU since they are the home team…if they win on the road that gives them an edge…but they may not lose any more games and we still get WVU at home. Either way, I’m hoping for an exhausting triple over time game. I’m not too proud to take any advantage we can get for Monday’s game.
-
I see “journeyman NBA player” written all over Rico.
-
I liked the game Landen Lucas put up.
When all else fails, go with the guy who has post fundamentals.
-
@Hawk8086 you are so wise! I go w/heart! Really dislike ISU!!
-
@drgnslayr Yep. But it beats “journeyman D League player” or “journeyman European player” Like they used to say about Fred Patek of the Royas being the shortest player in the majors…better than the shortest player in the minors.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Looks like that triple OT will not happen.
-
@drgnslayr like our man, Tarik Black!
-
@Hawk8086 maybe ISU will shoot and miss their way back out of it!!

Lucas seemed to be a pretty good match up inside
I’ve definitely changed my mind about Lucas. Used to cringe when he got the ball and now I’m happy to see him come in. Moving that big body better under the basket, 5 for 5 at the line and even a semi-flop to draw the third foul on Rico which he chuckled about.
Lot’s of guys stepping up Oubre looked smooth, Ellis played strong all game, and Selden started to penetrate more finally. I thought Frank looked kind of beat up again, some bad shot selections, missed FTs and not finding guys open, but offset by some bulldog hustle as usual.
Self getting lots of exposure and love today was nice too.
All in all, nice game with a scrappy, but reliable Faylor.
-
Selden made a critical 3 to bring KU within 6 and Oubre followed with another 3 to make it a 3 point game; IMHO, that was the turning point of the game.
-
He has a sweet three that’s been falling with regularity lately and really helping us in tight spots like the one you mention. AND he got to the hoop a few times and drew some contact a few other times which hasn’t been quite as regular as that long stroke has been. Great game from him and hope he keeps it up!
-
Lately, Selden has been hitting 3s at the most opportune times; hopefully he continues that streak…
-
@Jyhwk_InTigrtwn Frank did have 8 assists! He just had an off shooting day. He made 2 throws at the end, I think. Graham has not been shooting very well either. What’s nice about this team, we usually have somebody hot. Takes awhile to find it sometimes, like Lucas today.
-
I don’t know @drgnslayr, I really respect your basketball opinions and your great contributions to this site, but at least i get a little irked by our fans complaining about announcers.
I said on the JNews blog during the game the only time it’s really bothered me was Billy Packer cheering for Memphis during the 08 game.
I don’t listen that much to be honest. I thought he gave us a lot of respect today. Sure he disagreed with calls, but good grief, we all disagrees with calls! I know there’s not a mic in front of us when we do it, but announcers tell it like they see it.
Just my two cents worth for what it’s worth!
Great win by the way. I saw KU’s baseball team in person today get whooped pretty good by LSU, but it was fun nonetheless.
-
@wissoxfan83 You see the Tulane win over Cincinnati today? Three pt shot barely cleared shooters hand when the horn sounded. Could be SC Play of the Day if they don’t find something from Kenstinky blowout of SC.
-
@wissoxfan83
I only complained about that one call late in the game.
Actually, Duggy pointed out the one call where it was clearly out on Baylor under the goal, but the refs missed it.
These guys were getting on my nerves for just saying stupid things, not really about being anti-KU. Like the need for a second banner when the image on the screen showed two banners. Even my wife spouted out on that one, and she usually sits there in silence while tolerating my verbal tirades.
-
@Hawk8086 Agreed with you. Wanted to add the Douggie shorts episode.
-
@drgnslayr lol, oh man, thats just wrong.
-
@drgnslayr he drove me nuts, about calls and mostly comments, Embiids weight and worse flop… Each to his own!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I think Frank got his bell rung a little bit mid way thru the first half. I saw him come away from the base line after a foul with him holding his head for more than a few seconds.
-
@Lulufulu oh yeah! Never did see what happened did you?
-
Thank you kindly.
-
@jaybate-1.0 find it?
-
No I missed it, I did hear about it. I was at the KU baseball game. It wasn’t going well, left when it was 8-1, missed a nice comeback but we still lost 8-5. KU’s starter was pretty good today until the 4th, and then when I complained about the coach leaving him in too long, the reliever totally blows the game, he was a freshman, tough place to make a college debut and it was over.
I attended last night, and we played them pretty tough. A 3 run bomb was the big difference in the game.
@drgnslayr, I missed the banners comments. I guess my point is when I live blog with the gang on JNew’s, people complain about the announcers, even before it begins. And I just get tired of it. Not nearly enough to sacrifice my membership in this fine KUBuckets organization however!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Nah, never saw what happened to Frank.
-
@drgnslayr I thought the worst was at the end of the game when Gottlieb corrected his announcer after he said this win probably helped KU towards their eleventh big 12 title. He began to list all these qualifiers such as the amount of games KU would need to lose and the amount of games other teams would have to win. He concluded this by saying it was still possible for another team to share the title with KU. Of course this is true but it seems sillier each win we have for these announcers to continue to come up with these fantastical scenarios where according to Doug another team could unimpressively be an asterisk next to our eleventh straight big 12 title.
-
It’s a much bigger deal whe Kansas loses. Not such a big deal when Kansas wins. That is the monster that Kansas Basketball has become. I’m Good with that.
-
Yesterday, I thought I was possibly just irritable because the announcers were getting under my skin with about every comment. It was so bad, I thought about starting a KUbuckets topic on it. Then I thought: what a silly thing to start a topic on when it was probably just me that the announcers were annoying the hell out of.
-
@wissoxfan83 There are worse things than being irked. I get “irked” when an OSU homer runs us down all game, as he has done every game he’s called for KU for years. Of course, unlike you, I actually watched the game.
-
My wife and I just turned down the volume after the stupidity irked us enough. Think it was right after the “worst flop ever”. My response was “dougie, your precious Smart is the most prolific flopper of all time. Might end up in the Hall for it. Or get an Emmy.”
-
@KUSTEVE I guess if you’re looking for an OSU homer, you’ll find an OSU homer. Not sure where you get your info, but, I did actually watch the game,
And once again, you, and @Blown directly above your post prove my point. You’re getting irked, annoyed, irate, etc over what an announcer says. Who cares what they say? There’s plenty to get irked about during a game, like passes to the stands, 3 pointers with no rebounders, etc. Why let what some announcer says irk you?
-
@wissoxfan83 part of the game watching experience for me is listening to commentators. I appreciate gaining perspective from their remarks. I’m thankful that I have you to tell me what should and shouldn’t bother me based on the expectations of an experience that I have.

Maybe my opinion is that I can’t understand why mistakes made by 18 and 19 year old amateurs (throwing balls into stands) would irk you so much.
-
Well I sure don’t want to get into a pissing match here so go ahead, let the announcers irk you and I’ll let the players irk me!
-
@wissoxfan83 now that is what I call win-win negotiating
-
@Blown I’ve been on Ku boards for years, and have never found anyone that ever defended Snotlieb until this one. Wearing the OSU colors, and making reference to it was the first clue.
-
Heck, for me, a portion of entertainment for gamecasts is looking at mannerisms and listening to the inane commentaries of such courtside comics as Doogie Gee and Dickie Vee. That tie of Doogie’s was a bit over the top. At least he did not tie it backside forward!
-
@REHawk LOL…When I think of Snotlieb, I think of the little ditty " pants on the ground"…
-
I know this is a dead topic, and I know I threw a divergent opinion on this topic, but now Gottlieb has crossed the line for me, so erase I ever said here. I hate the guy!!
-
@wissoxfan83
“Doug Gottlieb believes Kentucky junior forward Willie Cauley-Stein should be named National Player of the Year”
Yeah right… Willie is averaging a whole 9.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg.
What a friggin’ joke! If you are going to run a platoon… then you should be sacrificing the personal accolades for players. 9.1 ppg and 6.4 rpg doesn’t put you near the category of NPOY. Not even in the conversation. You can’t be a part-time worker and get full-time benefits.
Kaminsky averages 18.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg. And he definitely plays a more integral role for his team. Frank gets hit with double and triple teams to earn his points. Willie is just another option on a team of McDs AAs.
