Nick Collison
I went to the Nuggets and Thunder game tonight in OKC with my son. I was watching Collison working on various shots and moves. He left the court toward the Thunder tunnel and grabbed a sharpie from security to sign autographs.
Of course I made my way just a few rows from our seat. Thunder fans crowded along the rail to get his attention, waiting with various items for him to sign.
I found a small opening and caught his attention by saying, “Rock Chalk Nick!” He smiled and responded back, “Rock Chalk!” I asked, “Are they going to do it again this year?” To which he replied, “I think they can…” I thanked him and went back to my seat. As I walked away, many Thunder fans began calling out, “Rock Chalk Nick…Rock Chalk…!” They weren’t a truehawk. As I walked away to my seat, I turned and watched him wrap up his session by giving high fives entering further into the tunnel.
What a great night, and hopefully it’s a great sign for tomorrow. It’s weird to see Nick Collison and Carmelo Anthony playing on the same team. I’ll try to post some pics of Collison going through his pre-game shooting exercise.
I explained the significance of that experience. My son said, “Dad, I’m going to take this program, autograph, tickets, and put them on the bulletin board in my room.” I was truly proud that my son got to have that experience with me on this night. Incidentally, he is crazy about Frank Mason and DG.

RE: Self Fullfilling Prophecy
March Madness voids all this complex thinking. Just take your theories and wad them up and throw them in the fireplace. They simply don’t matter. We should all know this by now. How many times has KU’s numbers been completely dominating? How many times have those numbers been proven wrong? In how many years?
I can recall at least two tourneys where KU’s numbers were exactly what some are wanting on this board, only to lose at some point in the tourney. No, the numbers don’t lie @HighEliteMajor, but those numbers only give you a picture. Then, when the teams get on the floor, it’s not the same team and we should know this at KU.
It’s simple: Who wants it more? Green is sparking, Selden is looking good, Ellis gets better (per his interview), and we can get some bench; We might just surprise a few people.
I think this tourney may provide some shocking surprises. This may be the year the numbers don’t quite support what will actually happen? Just some thoughts.
I know one thing: KU is not favored at all and frankly we are dubbed the weakest. In fact, Borzello and Eamon says the Midwest is “O.K.” apart from UK. Many have UK winning this thing and if @HighEliteMajor is correct, then let’s forgo the hassle of having a tourney this year and just give the NC to UK. They meet all @HighEliteMajor criteria.

RE: Thank you Jamari!
@chriz JTray played for The Mean Streets of Chicago. This kid is street tough. I picture him on a play ground getting mugged or busted in the mouth, only to rise up and play through his pain. This kid is tops in my defensive book. He won’t make any analysts’ list, but he is all heart. In fact, if our guys follow his example, we will be entirely unstoppable. The kid is playing with wreckless abandon. He knows this is his last rodeo. He’s going to play hard and look back without little to no regrets. Rock on JTray, go for it.

RE: Thread Where I Post Stuff About Future Stud KU PG Markese Jacobs
Mason 2.0, but two differences I noticed from the links. Jacobs is every bit as good as Mason. I see Jacobs as a much better shooter off the dribble than Mason. I do see Mason being much more physical at this point than Jacobs. They are both extremely similar in play overall.

RE: KU and Apples vs Izzo's Freshman Game Thread
I am stoked about Mr Coleby. This guy wants a NC.

RE: Just something I noticed
KU players, especially the guards MUST learn to create contact. They can’t try to look pretty and avoid contact by trying to jump away from defenders, expecting to make shots and/or go to the stripe. Mason does it more than any guard on the team. But he has his moments where he’s trying to avoid contact. He’s got to jump right into the defenders. They are jumping out of their shoes to block Mason. They will foul him every time. I see it every single game. Last night it was Graham. Oubre gets it. He’s learned to drive and create contact. They can’t drive right into the center of the defenders either. They have to get an angle and make the defenders move or lean.
They’ve got to learn that teams, especially ISU (ala, Niang) will set up a charge every single time. They’ve got to learn how to go around Niang. They need to crossover and leave him standing like a fool. Niang sets up for a charge and KU like a moth to a flame charges right into the big lug. He gets that charge called almost 100% of the time.
Don’t get me started on this airborne passing habit. They are getting caught in the air during a pass. The guilty ones are Mason, Selden, and Graham. They’ve got to stop that crap.
Enough of ISU for now…RCJH beat UT.

RE: Wiggins and James, 01/31/2015
I think it’s huckin fliarious that Wiggins is putting up the numbers, the defense, and the skills as a TEENAGER. What was Love doing his first year in the league? Not this at all. James was great, but how great was he his first year in the league? Of course James skipped college too.
My point: I’m going to say that Wiggins is better than Love at this point than when Love was a rookie. I’d say that he’s as good as James at this point as a rookie, if not better. I know the argument is moot, we all agree, but it’s funny they are forgetting Wiggins’ age and comparing him to James and Love. This is pretty amazing. He’s being compared to two very long time veterans in the league.

KU’s Mykhailiuk sees
I just can’t seem to do a whole lot on kusports. I glance and then read some of the comments, but that board is really bad. Some on this board still comment. But lately, I’ve just chosen not to because they’ve gotten extremely negative. Anyway…I really like this piece on Svi.
“It’s a process,” Mykhailiuk said Thursday…This is mature.
He said, “every day I guard Kelly (Oubre Jr.) or Wayne (Selden Jr.). They are really good.” This will only sharpen his skills.
I’m trying to work every day when it’s possible,” he said. Great European work ethic.
You need to be tougher physically and mentally. Defense is not just physical, it’s mental. This is a statement beyond his years. He understands the game. He’s had some good coaching in Europe.
“The guys love him. He’s a stud,” Self said. The makings of a great leader.
It’s the best chance (opportunity) what I have in my life,” he said of playing at KU…He appreciates his opportunity. Doesn’t sound like a kid that’s going back home to mommy.
Just give him time,” Self said…This is all he needs right now.
These are some great comments and the makings of a player who will be a solid player in the near future. Again, these kids have to recognize their role and be extremely patient. It will payoff. Self is waiting to debut his European gem.
Hang in there Svi. You have all the tools and talent. Just be patient and your time will be guaranteed.
Once again, thanks for choosing KU and RCJHGoKU

I feel so much better. My bball year just got better.

RE: Calipari to be inducted to the HOF!
@approxinfinity Wigs will school both Harrisons if they ever step foot onto an NBA court. They aren’t even in the same league of character or level of play as Wigs. Wigs is in a league of his own.
Wigs is making history in the NBA. The Harrisons are way behind.
As to the link, it doesn’t show good judgement on the part of the Harrisons. They obviously still have a problem. The strange thing about their problem, it’s inter-racism. They are talking about their own race? How does this seem right?
What Stephen A. Smith states the obvious and is against the action, but he defends Harrison. He then mentions Kaminsky saying it and then defends the comment. Again, Smith should be against it regardless of one’s race. Eliminate that ugly word from all people, black or white. Smith said, if Kaminsky said it (being white) we would have a different problem? What is wrong with this picture?
Let’s be clear Stephen A. Smith, racism is always wrong. Don’t justify it. You are promoting it. You are a sports analyst. Stand up and be accounted. Don’t cave to a culture or race. Stand your ground and detest it at every instance, no matter who says it. It’s intolerable.

RE: Young announcement
I have it on good authority that Trae Young will be a Crimson and Blue bonafides Jayhawk on February 16.
247Sports reports Young is between Kansas and Oklahoma. The 18-year-old is from Norman, Oklahoma so if he chooses to attend a different Big 12 school other than Oklahoma, he won’t remain too popular among the locals.
(http://www.fanragsports.com/news/five-star-recruit-trae-young-announce-commitment-feb-16/) This is an example of the nasty pressure they put on these kids. Xavier Henry was on his way to Memphis and then ended at KU. He didn’t get much backlash from the local Okies. In fact, most Sooners don’t really care much for the bball program. They are so full of pigskin, they oink.
(
)Rayford Young wants his son to have a winning college experience. OU does not have a winning bball program. Also, the distractions are just that at this point. His mother will entrust him to Bill Self and trust Trae as well. He’s a big boy and it’s time he steps out of the Sooner state and into the halls of greatness at KU. He wants to be a part of history. His announcement will be KU. If not? Oh well, he just made a choice that will impact his college bball career. All he has to do is look at Mason and that should help him make a decision.
What’s happening at KU is reality and not covered up. Rayford and his mom knows more than anyone what happens at ALL these schools. He’s going to get exposed to all kinds of crap. This is where he grows into a young man and learns life. He’s a good kid, he’ll make a great choice.
It’s a great ride Jayhawks, let’s enjoy. Let’s have some fun.

RE: THE FAMOUS LANDON LUCAS SCREEN.
I watched the game again and Gray ran right into that pick. Miles Simon claimed “almost a moving screen.” This crap happens all game every game and you want to claim a moving screen with 5.4 secs? Pleez I’m so sick of people making outrageous claims against KU, especially if those claims work against KU. I made several notes or obsessions during the game:
- Rich Hellenberg (ESPN moron) made a number of stupid comments during the game. The most ignorant was when he said, “…Liberal, Kansas is not very far away from Lawrence…” Hey genius study your map of Kansas and you’ll see Liberal is in almost the Southwest part of Kansas. Lawrence is up North-Northeast, idiot. This is the kind of analysts ESPN hires.
- The Stevenson steal and dunk? He carried the ball and the idiot refs never called it.
- Svi walk? LOL, again this happens every game with many players and it’s hardly called.
- TT was climbing KU’s backs for rebounds at the 6:00 min mark, no call.
- TT stepped on baseline at 6:20 with ref looking right at play.
- 5:59 mark, ESPN dropped foul count of KU which showed a disparity.
- Miles Simon states obvious on many plays, not real sure about his game calls.
- Stevenson out of control all game and will be best game of year. He will never have another game like this game, add the 3 pt kid too, not another game.
- Gray fouled and held Jackson all day…should have fouled out of game
- Mason 5th foul was a charge, but his 3 or 4th was not a foul, player was not set, dragging his back foot
- Jackson called for blocking foul against Gray? Jackson was moving out of the way and Miles Simon even made the comment, NO FOUL
- Beard said Gray hurt wrist and wanted another FT shooter? Interesting tactic
- This game depleted TT and will end their year…stick a fork in them. I’m concerned what it will do to KU’s overall rest and preparation for WVU in AFH?
- FTs continue to be a problem
- TT was very physical and it’s a wonder there were no scrums or words between players. Our guys played well and held their cool.
- How the foul on Jackson trying to get around TT player dribbling underneath Jackson? Then Jackson went for the ball and ref called Jackson for foul, LOL…dumbest call of the game.
- Why do fans shout " #1 " on national television when they are 4-8 in a conference? It wasn’t their little finger pistol either.
- Cheap play call by Chris Beard at the end with Gray. I think he told them to foul any way possible to keep KU off the rim. Gray tried to grab Lucas by the leg, didn’t work.
- This officiating crew was horribly bias and it was obvious.
- TT had the officials cooking for them, and KU still won. I wonder what all the haters will say about this game? The refs won it for KU? hahaha
- KU played down and TT played up to KU, as all teams do
- KU almost lost this with their charity stripe issues.
- A win is a win…great game prep for later

RE: Bracketology Time
This team and season is looking very much like 1988. Think about the coincidences.
This team was 9-5 in B8 and 27-11 overall. However, this year’s team has a chance to win or at least tie for the conference title.
Hell, this '88 team wasn’t even ranked in the top 25. I totally forgot about that impossibility.
Archie Marshall was injured and Doke is injured.
Manning and DLaw are not the same players but in similar roles.
Danny and the Miracles
DLaw and the Over Achievers?
So its not over til its over. The Hawks spread their wings as the fat lady sings. This was my fav because it was my freshman year.

RE: Redshirting a Big
@Texas-Hawk-10 The kid did this basically his second semester out of high school, high school. TRob was on a strong roster his freshman year with the Morri and Withey. Then he went and got bigger.
Let’s see what SDS does after this crazy NCAA mess of a suspension. He’s been practicing too. He should pick up where he left off. I just hope Hudy has worked him too during the “suspension.” I use that term lightly too, “suspension.” It was more like a screw-spension.
I don’t care what anyone thinks. Glad he’s back and it’s going to be exciting with our nasty front court.

I really feel for Billy. But something tells me he will have a good career with or without KU. I know his heart was set on playing for KU. Well, it ain’t over till it’s over. Here’s hoping someone at the ncaa has some heart, if not for KU, at least for a young player that fell victim to the stupid OAD rules.

RE: Time to make the change
@ParisHawk I especially loved the chicken wing the Stanford big threw on Tarik right before Tarik fouled out. I could see Tarik’s thinking that maybe the refs would let them play through. The calls were really inconsistent down low against KU.
KU beat KU, not the refs. But, they sure didn’t call it consistently down low. I thought we got hacked and the refs failed to call it. They gave Stanford every advantage down low. Once again, a great example of a team playing up to KU and KU playing down to a lesser team. This Stanford team played to win and made a few more plays in the end.

RE: February 21, 2015 -- The Day The Season Died
@KansasComet So, you posted a really nice post regarding Alex. You’re basically saying he is selfish, undisciplined, and not quite ready for Self’s system. Bingo, in a round about way you have posted what all elite, top picks have to endure. They have a choice: either I enter a program and buy into the system or continue to play MY game. We’ve seen some players in KU history especially with Bill Self that have chosen to “play their game.” Where are they now? Also, Self is being blamed for the failure of said players too. However, when you look at the players that have adjusted into Self’s system, how many are well adjusted to the NBA? Most all of them that are in the NBA.
Mari, Lucas, Selden (more so lately), Oubre (a bit late), Ellis (totally all about Self ball), and most of the other players have bought into Self ball. Now, critics still blame Self and are actually criticizing Self for Ellis’ inability to play up to his potential. Ellis is pretty much growing in front of the nation’s eyes. Sure, he has a few areas to improve, but he’s a solid player. He will adjust nicely in the NBA better than most.
My point is simply, no matter what people say, players that play Self’s system will succeed and adjust more than people will give credit. The players that fail to play into Self’s system, will not only struggle, but have difficulty adjusting into higher levels of play: Dleague, NBA, European league, etc. It’s the player’s choice, not Self. Self can only offer them the options. We all know his system is not the easiest either. But, if followed and learned well, they will be much better able to adjust in the league.
How many remember Kobe Bryant’s comments about how AAU ball was ruining these young players? He blasted at how these young players are failing to learn the basics and therefore enter the NBA totally incompetent to play at the highest level. Bryant and James are exceptions. They were fortunate enough not to learn at the college level. They are rare and many of these young players want to follow their path. Wiggins is the only player that might have followed them, but even he will tell you Self’s system was vital to his development. Where are the critics with Wiggins? Why don’t they attack Self’s development of Wiggins’ game? I don’t hear them attacking Self for failing Wiggins. Nor do I hear critics attacking Wiggins. I find this interesting and sad all at the same time.

RE: February 21, 2015 -- The Day The Season Died
@HighEliteMajor said:
Regardless, Kansas needs to win national titles. That is greatness. Given our coach’s offensive mindset right now, and with Traylor (or Lucas for that matter) being the #2 minutes guy in the post, the hopes for a national title are dead. It is just that simple.
Now, could his offensive mindset change … ?
HEM- So what is exactly your point? Other than our season is ‘dead’ with Lucas and Traylor. Are you saying that Lucas and Traylor are utterly incapable of delivering some winning game performances?and/or are you saying Self needs to change his offensive mindset?
I disagree. I think if Lucas is given some of Cliff’s mins, he can/will produce. I think Mari has proven that he’s our more experienced man that can play some energy mins. You and I both know that Self is/will not change his offensive game plan. He will live and die by the inside/out game. We have firepower but it’s just not consistent enough this late in the season. The team showed some really nice ability to move the ball to the open or cutting man to the basketball in the last 5-8 mins of the game when they ground out the TCU win. A win is a win and at this point, I’ll take it. They can win, period. However, you’re not satisfied with winning, you’re more concerned about who? If Alex doesn’t produce and shows his typical undisciplined self, and gets into foul proned trouble, then Mari will have to be our go to big. Lucas give us some great experience against some good teams. Let’s just win and let Self decide who might lead us to that win.

RE: BIG TWELVE TOURNAMENT
B12 tourney=B12 Consolation prize…sorry I just don’t like the tourneys. I’ll never understand why they play those conference tourneys. The regular season B12 Champions have claimed the title 11 consecutive times. I guess it’s to make some poor team feel better about themselves. I know for a fact, the B12 tourney winner always claims they are the B12 Champs after playing 3-4 games?
Let’s mention the huge risk of an injury for what? I think the conferences and the teams should take that time to rest and heal. It will never happen. It will either help Ellis get back on track for the NCAAs or it will hurt either him or someone else, Selden?
Oh well, like someone quoted Self, “if you’re gonna play 'em, might as well win 'em.” I just hope not a huge price.

RE: Someone talk me off the cliff!
Once again, I’m not focused on other programs or comparing the KU players and programs with others, BUT, I still can’t believe this is an isolated issue. This can’t be a legitimate investigation. KU is not the only program with this issue. Cliff Alexander can’t be the only player that’s had a family member, however defined, attempt to barrow money? And even if they did barrow money WTH does Cliff have to do or benefit from it. My guess he’s just the victim of NCAA politics and someone’s terrible agenda.
I remember when Anthony Davis had a little stink about an impropriety. If I remember correctly, it was roughly something about his dad taking some kind of financial benefit? I understand WWW was involved and that may have influenced AD to UK? However, it was swept under the carpet and once again ol’ Calipari and his program goes unscathed or even impacted as KU and Cliff. Oh, btw, don’t forget they won the NC, which is great. I’m happy to see a program win. But, even after the “so-called” routine investigation, nothing was found and they won the NC without issues? PLEEEZE. This is not hate or envy either. This is about a program winning cleanly without any unnecessary help or influence. The sad thing is, this is happening ALL over D1 bball and the NCAA is turning a blind eye.
Now, some how, and some way, we have Alex’s ridiculous issue. I was waiting and pretty much resolved until I heard the latest and how the NCAA is dragging it’s feet. What’s the problem? Get your damn docs, review the stupid thing and make a stupid ruling already. This isn’t fair to KU, Alex, or the entire NCAA bball program. Someone is deliberately stalling and causing this mess to escalate. Alex and KU are suffering. Once again, thank you to the NCAA for being such a stellar organization and protecting programs and players. Great job and keep up the corrupt work…jokes all.
Leave it to Gary Parrish to defend it all and to put a nice spin on it.
Not the most reputable looking write-up, but a great question all the same and it will never be answered.
Come on, you can’t tell me something can’t be found.
Hey Cliff have your family member DENY EVERYTHING. Let’s follow the UK way of dealing with these matters. It seems to work well for UK and Calipari.

@Crimsonorblue22 haha…Recruits meet Andrew Wiggins, the next NBA ROY. Oh, did I mention he played at KU? Oh yeah, forgot that little tid bit.
These recruits come from high school and they’re all OFFENSE. They have little to NO defensive tools whatsoever. Wiggins came in defensively raw, and entered the NBA as one of the best rookie defensive players. It might be something these recruits today need to consider.

RE: Brandon Ingram Decision
The UNC liar thing was bizarre. Roy is having an in home? Awkward
Biancardi is a fool. I can’t wait for Ingram to commit to KU. They all have him going anywhere but KU. They even think he’ll go to UK before KU. UK is loaded at the 3. They even think Ingram will go UK if they get Brown. They pretty much guarantee him to Puke.
Basically Ingram will go anywhere but KU. One expert even said Ingram would compete with Svi at the 3 with Green questionable.
Ingram compete with Svi? Svi is good and will be great but there’s no comparison. Ingram may be close to Wiggins talent. I hope Ingram gets a gut full of Wiggins.

RE: Tevin Mack
@JayHawkFanToo It’s easy to bring it in a tourney as a flash in the pan, but to bring it every single game on a big time stage like the B12 is a different story. I agree, he does remind me a bit of Turner Gill and KU football. I think Shaka will get a rude awakening in the B12. I see him lasting 2-3 years and UT fans will be calling for his resignation. I think he had a great ride at VCU, but again, it’s not the B12. I love Turner Gill and he’s a great guy, just wasn’t D1 head football coaching material. I think the comparison, though different sports is fairly interesting to say the least.

RE: Embiid, Alexander, Diallo>Karviar Shepherd
@drgnslayr Love really let that whole Wiggins thing down for the Cavs. Love is not thriving in the Cavs system like many ie. LBJ wanted. Wiggins actually became the best of that deal.
-
RE: Odds On Diallo
I don’t quite understand how or why Self and KU would waste anytime on a player that is even remotely doubtful. KU doesn’t simply blindly accept these students. Either there is something wrong with the qualifying process and department or this is a D1 NCAA ruse to disrupt the KU program. Remember, we do face the NCAA’s beloved UK early in the season and we are in fact some what favored with our experience.
Also, if we have a program clearing house at KU, which I’m pretty sure we do, then we also have our own NCAA officer that we run these issues through at the time of signing or even prior to signing. There’s got to be a way for Self to work with the KU clearinghouse officials and the NCAA officer to determine whether these kids are eligible. In other words, this is bullsh*t at it’s finest and the NCAA loves playing this hide and go seek game, I’M SICK OF IT. Unless the kid has a horrible record or a bad transcript, qualify him. Self’s hands are tied and he has to play the game. My guess is, Self signs these kids based on prelim information and the NCAA simply uses KU as an example to other programs.
I will say it again, again, and again…UK can’t possibly be qualifying their recruits. How in the hell does KU get so many questionable recruits that are unqualified and UK steam rolls the clearinghouse with recruit after recruit? Remember, UK does have a connection with the NCAA too. I’M SICK OF IT. They have all but ruined the game of basketball.
Damn it…Why doesn’t someone do an independent investigation of the freakin’ NCAA and find how crooked their so called officers are that work these investigations. I guarantee you Calipari has someone working the system to get his kids qualified. No way in hell he has a near perfect qualifying recruiting process. The only recruit that failed to qualify at UK was Kanter. His qualifying issue was so blatant and if you talked to UK fans to this day, they will tell you that he was qualified. Even Calipari had him on the bench and defied the NCAA ruling. I tell you that is the worst recruiting program in the NCAA.

RE: Moving Forward
I’m still scratching my head after blowing a 14 pt lead in AFH. KU plays soft and ISU comes shooting 3s like their life depended on them. It was a disastrous ending.
I will bet this game will be ISU’s best game for the rest of the season. No way they shoot like this again on the road. The trey will be their down fall on a night when they could’ve beaten an NBA team. No way do they get lightening in a bottle again. I said this after the IU loss too. Look where IU is right now. KU better let this lousy home loss go and use it as a painful reminder they now have to start a new streak. The pressure is off and they can play loose. KSU will be shooting for their throats too. KU better be ready for a blood bath in the barnyard. -
RE: Win or Lose?

Yes. Josh can get better and should peak at the right time

@chriz Yeah, no, the Great Steph Curry does no wrong…He could never double dribble. Remember, the refs are professionals and they are unbiased. They are like our justice system. They are blind, and they only interpret the rules on the court. They pretty much allow certain players, ie. Curry and James type players to do whatever they want. Let’s face it, these players basically are the NBA ref’s job security. Without the NBA, these refs have no jobs? So, the more they can keep the NBA entertaining and allow Step Curry to double dribble to WOW the fans, they will swallow the whistle.

RE: Holiday Hoops
