RE: END OF THE YEAR KU BUCKETS - (I WAS WRONG LIST)
I was wrong to occassionally visiting the other site and hope the bickering will stop.
I was wrong to think that all the 22K users here are real. And, to be told that most are Spambots.
I will be wrong later to think that we can’t win it all. Haha! RCJH!

RE: Next Up: New Mexico State 23-10, WAC 13-1 RPI 107
Like this from Pat Forde:
Best Case: After a perfunctory punking of New Mexico State, the Jayhawks tell Wichita State, “Careful what you wish for.” Kansas beats down the uppity Shockers, putting them back in their place for the foreseeable future. In the Sweet 16, Bill Self’s hammer-it-in offense mauls Notre Dame inside to set up a date with Kentucky. Cocky after beating Kansas by 32 in November, the Wildcats aren’t ready for the challenge of a drastically improved team. Jayhawks don’t shoot 20 percent this time, battle admirably inside and Bill Self hands John Calipari another soul-crushing NCAA tournament defeat. Not finished there, Kansas marches into the Final Four and beats Wisconsin and Duke to win it all. Self signs 20-year contract extension and all underclassmen stay in school. Meanwhile, Iowa State loses early and Kim Anderson is still the coach at Missouri.

RE: I love KU basketball
@wrwlumpy I may actually make the trip since I am on this part of the world. Anyway, it has been fun. It has been great to have all of you on this board to make this season memorable. There are many great basketball concepts and observations that will stick for years to come. I hope we will keep this place warm. Thank you all. RCJH!

RE: Carlton Bragg to announce January 8th
I would like to take a moment here to thank the creator of this wonderful site and the posting culture that collectively fostered by the posters here. Just visited the other site on this same subject. OMG, all the bitter bickerings just turned me off. Cheers to Kubuckets!

RE: Do we root for Baylor tonight?
@Crimsonorblue22 I am happy with the result but I don’t like the taste. We must take care of our own business!

RE: ASSUMING THAT HEM IS WRONG AND THE SEASON ISN'T REALLY OVER...
I try to recall last year and compare to what we are at now. Last year, at 22-7, we lost Embiid and we have PG issue and also Wigs did not always bring his A game. This year, we “lost” Cliff at 22-6, we don’t have a PG issue, we have Ellis bringing his A games lately. Both years, Jamari is about the same, Seldon is not much an upgrade.
Therefore, position to position, I think we are better with Mason at 1 and better with Devonte as his backup. Don’t think Mason’s handle was better than Devonte now.
We still have Seldon at the 2. Slight upgrade.
At the 3, we have Oubre and Greene. Are they better than Wigs combined? This is a big question.
At the 4, we still have Ellis. A much improved Ellis.
Without Embiid and without Cliff, we have Jamari. Even at the 5.
So, looking at the above, I like the prospect of the current team better than the prospect of last year team as much was built around Embiid off late. I personally think we can do better than last year. RCJH!

RE: Cliff
@Crimsonorblue22 This is what troubles me. NCAA is not protecting its member schools. NCAA only punishes its member schools for something that they have no weapon against. It is ridiculous!

RE: Down go the Cyclones
I guess ISU knew now how does it feel to be somebody else’s Super Bowl! And, we have plenty of such experience. If we get thru NMS and WSU get thru IND, it will be their Super Bowl in 2+ decades. Thank goodness we are used to seeing those hungry eyes and eager bodies! RCJH!

Round of 32, Wichita State (29-4, 17-1 MVC), RPI 17
Starters
Darius Carter SR 6’7” 245 lbs 11.2 ppg
Tekele Cotton SR 6’3” 205 lbs 9.6 ppg (29.2% 3pt%)
Evan Wessel JR 6’4” 218 lbs 4.2 ppg (34.2% 3pt%)
Ron Baker JR 6’3” 222 lbs 15.0 ppg (39.4% 3pt% attempted most)
Fred VanVleet JR 6’0” 195 lbs 12.7 ppg (36.9% 3pt%) 5.3 apg
Bench
Rashard Kelly FR 6’7” 232 lbs 3.0 ppg (44.4% 3pt%)
Zach Brown FR 6’6” 213 lbs 2.9 ppg
Shaquille Morris FR 6’7” 261 lbs 4.9 ppg
WSU relies heavily on 4 Starters (Carter, Cotton, Baker and VanVleet). Mason and Selden will be busy guarding VanVleet and Baker. This game will feature the battle of the Guards.
Size wise, KU is taller and bigger. Ellis, Lucas and Taylor should attack the paint, pound the board so that the perimeter would be open for good 3pt looks for Oubre, Greene and Selden.
If Mason and Selden can contain their guards. The match up is favorable to KU.

RE: We've Lost What's Made Us Successful
Nice take!
Maybe we are still trying to find our New Way to be Successful. I think last year we planned to build our team around a 3 (Wigs). But, as the season developed, we realized that we could build our team around Embiid. I am wondering if HCBS is still evaluating this year on who he should build his team around, a 3 (KO) or a 4.5 (CA). I think when his mind is set, a new Team will emerge and we will live or die with it. It may takes a bit longer this year due to inconsistency.
I am not sure if my observation is correct, i think Timberwolves is clearly building a Team around Wigs and with all the resources a NBA team has, we have lately seen a more consistent Wigs (Shooting % and Production). It took MIN about 30 games to do that.
Given the same criterias, we are 12 games in and we have 2 Options (KO and CA), I sure hope 1 of the 2 will emerge. The level of talents is not like Wigs and Embiid; so, it maybe time consuming for HCBS to do his job this time round. RCJH!

RE: Where Have All the Lurkers Gone?
@VailHawk Talk about the old site, it is sad to see what is happening there now. I remembered one of the reasons to have every users using their real names was meant to create meaningful, insightful and responsible KU basketball postings. If you cross over to the site now, on the topic about “Jayhawks go wild over Garrett’s goal”, i saw a religious debate in the postings.
-
RE: Where Have All the Lurkers Gone?
@cragarhawk Like our beloved Team, it is defined by its key players. Likewise, for KUBuckets or “The Other Site”, they are also defined by their key posters. Without being names specific, I am sure we all know the difference. RCJH!

RE: Next Up (9) KU 16-3, 5-1 Big 12, RPI 1 @ TCU 14-5, 1-5 Big 12, RPI 120
@Shanghai_RCJH Looking at the roster of TCU, I think the players to have good offensive stats will be Ellis and Mason. RCJH!
-
RE: Next Up: KSU 12-9, Big 12 5-3, RPI 77
Looking at the TCU game, I am guessing that HCBS was going to prepare a couple of players beyond the 8 man rotation in anticipation of ISU and beyond; considering that there may be minor bumps and bruises or flu.
It looked like the A Team was going to ramp up the lead so that we have cushion for B Team to get PT until Ellis got into foul trouble.
I think HCBS may do that again with KSU at the comfort of AFH.
We were lucky to get the W and provided good minutes beyond the 8.
Hope I am right and RCJH on Saturday!

RE: Recruiting
I think we can have only a Thon or a Zimm. So, I think Zimm is waiting to see if Thon can reclassify (Clearing House could be hurdle).
So, if both are keen on KU, one may choose to commit sooner than we thought. Don’t think PT is an issue for a true 5.
As both are footers, don’t see them drawing Cliff as example. I think they should be looking at JoJo, Tarik (starting for LA), Jeff, just to name a few.
Either Thon or Zimm, I am sure we will be just as happy.
Hope I am right. RCJH!

Baylor: 2 similar Fool's Gold Teams going at it
In case the Coaching staff is reading. I just did some numbers crunching to compare the 2 teams. I found that the 2 teams are very similar in their 3 Pt game.
Players----3 PT (%)----% of Team’s 3PT Attempts
Prince 39.8%—21.7%
Chery 38.4%—20.0%
O’Neale 42.3%—16.6%
Medford 38.9%—21.0%
31.6% of Shot Attempts are from 3 PT.
Average Team 3 PT Shooting % is 37.1%
Players—3 PT (%)—% of Team’s 3PT Attempts
Mason 44.1%—16.7%
Selden 43.0%—24.6%
Oubre 35.4%—16.0%
Greene 52.3%—16.0%
30.1% of Shot Attempts are from 3 PT.
Average Team 3 PT Shooting % is 40.9%.
So, if we have an ON day for trey, we win. If we have an OFF day for trey, they win. Maybe that was the reason for HCBS to talk up Inside Out after TTU.
My wish: 1st Play of the game is for everyone to set Ellis up for a Trey. Ellis makes it (that would be his 1,000). HCBS calls a Time Out. AFH goes crazy. Team amps up. Greene fires from all over the place during the game and we torch the Bears! RCJH!

RE: Who is responsible?
Maybe HCBS saw UNLV looming at a home date and need a wake up call for his team before they feel too good about themselves.
-
RE: Who is responsible?
Maybe “Missing Devonte” was responsible. Take nothing away from Mason who was working hard to create his own shots in a night where most of his team mates seem to have disappeared. Maybe, the option of playing small was the missing part in term of matchup for that game. Maybe while Mason was driving we need a true PG to read the floor and send the ball to the next guy who is available at the best place and time to score.
-
RE: UNLV is NOT a trap game.
Ha ha! Don’t think you were all that wrong. Who would have guessed four of the guys decided to show up. I can only expect Mason shows up every game. Wayne showed up early was good. If CA were to make those misses, it would have been a rout.

RE: Carlton Bragg to announce January 8th
Something for Mr Bragg: “What is more than Playing Time?”
Before today’s game and a few games before that, KO’s playing time was under the microscope of the media. I think, today best illustrated what HCBS does here at KU. He develops players according to his system. And, when the two similar 5 Stars Mickey Ds met, the better prepared prevailed.
Yes. I think some can also say something about the UK game. But, in all fairness to HCBS, he hasn’t got enough time to work his magic with the team yet. And, UK has the benefits of overseas games prior.
My point here is Playing Times is important. But, Development Times is also important.
It would be fun to revisit the following numbers when the season is over.
If I am a KU recruit, I will look at how a Talent is developed at KU to affect the W-L inclusive of the performance at the Big Dance.
Rashad Vaughn Height 6-6, Weight 210 #8 Rivals Ranking
Season: 31.2 min, FG% 43.7%, 3P% 34.8%, FT% 60.3%, REB 4.3, AST 1.3, BLK 0.3, STL 0.4, PF 2.1, TO 2.3, PTS 17.3 (inclusive of today’s game)
Kelly Oubre Height 6-7, Weight 200 #6 Rivals Ranking
Season: 15.8 min, FG% 47.1%, 3P% 48.1%, FT% 69.2%, REB 4.2, AST 0.6, BLK 0.0, STL 0.7, PF 1.5, TO 1.1, PTS 7.3 (inclusive of today’s game)
Today’s Head to Head
KU 76: UNLV 61
KO: 35 MIN, 30% FG, 10 REB, 3 AST, 0 BLK, 1 STL, 2 PF, 12 PTS
RV: 27 MIN, 40% FG, 4 REB, 0 AST, 0 BLK, 0 STL, 1 PF, 10 PTS
I can’t help to asking who among the 2 is better prepared in today’s game. In HCBS I trust! RCJH

RE: possible future jayhawk
@jayballer54 I hope you are right. I tend to think this year haul will be good as well. What does a high school prospect looks at at this point of the season? I believe is whether a freshman got to start or play rotational minutes. In our case, although it may be taken a bit longer than Wigs and Jojo, all excepts Svi are playing good minutes for a Blue Blood school with a lot of national TV exposure. So, why not? RCJH!

RE: The Selden Factor
I am wondering about WS also. I lifted the stats of Wayne for all to discuss:
Year 13/14 14/15
MPG 29.2 30.3 (+)
FGM-FGA 3.5-7.9 3.1-8.8 (-)
FG% 43.7% 34.6% (-)

STL 0.7 0.7
PF 2.0 2.2 (-)
TO 1.9 1.8 (+)
PPG 9.7 8.9 (-)
(+) = Improved (-) = Falling Behind
Considering the falling point production and the improved assist, I think WS overall performance has not shown much improvement from last season.

ESPN: “Nino Williams likely out against KU.”
He is 2nd in PPG, 1st in REB for KSU and Best FT.
If the injury status holds, KSU just got younger and weaker at the glass.
However, we still need to be careful. Apart from @ OSU where they lost by 14, the rest of the games were all single digit games. In other words, they also know how to win close games.

RE: Next Up: @OSU 14-7, Big 12 4-5, RPI 41
Thanks Texas and OSU for an emotionally draining and physically exhausting game. I always think after an emotionally high game, a team will come out flat the next!
Looks like OSU still only has 3 main guns: Nash, Hickey Jr. and Forte III. And, HCBS said he looks at the team and he saw 8 starters. RCJH!

RE: Thunder steals the Thunder
@Crimsonorblue22 A scary image just appeared! Many many years ago, I was one of the little guys got tossed up at the north end of AFH to distract the opponents from making the free throws. I had no fear at all if there were nobody to catch me, i will still land on bodies. Wow, in that empty stadium, no way!
I was fortunate to be at KU when Brown and Danny were there. Yes, part of the 1988.
