RE: An ugly topic: Bill Self’s health
@approxinfinity said in An ugly topic: Bill Self’s health:
“Self’s mastery of interviews speaks to an ability to navigate this world without a crutch. I’m sure he sees sobriety as an advantage and better existence and sticks close to it.”
Man, approx, this is so well said, and incredibly insightful. Makes me wonder if you have a Psych background… As we’ve seen recently with Huggins, even the most seasoned of coaches, with hours upon hours of interview experience, it is not hard to put your foot squarely in your own mouth in a matter of seconds. That split second of time where your brain takes a break, and you inadvertently blurt out something stupid, can do damage to your credibility, and reputation, for much longer. Avoiding these lapses in judgment, suggests someone who is sharp, and always thinking a couple of steps ahead. And although he may enjoy some downtime with an adult beverage, he’s not likely to succumb to overindulge too often. Especially during season, or peak basketball activity time periods (in season, recruiting, etc.).

RE: NBA Entrants & Returnees
@BShark Curious as to why you think leaving now better helps his chances of getting the all important 2nd contract? Because I definitely agree that that is the ultimate goal in the NBA. With that comes generational wealth, and possibly even a pension. But the NBA Draft history is LITTERED with examples of kids who came out too early, were exposed, and never reached that elusive goal. Whereas there are scores of examples of kids staying in college, developing their overall game, and sticking around, even as just role players. A more recent example I can think of, is Jalen Brunsen from Villanova. But also think a Nick Collision. Nick never sticks in the league that long if he doesn’t spend all that time in college… Just curious genuinely, as to your tea, I just happen to think the opposite.

RE: KU Game Schedule
So the games that are on ESPN & ESPN2, are those streamable? I ask because I was not able to watch MNF last night on my ESPN+ app. Live in KS, by the way

KU Game Schedule
I’ve recently cut the cord from cable. Although I don’t miss it a stitch, I am getting anxious about the upcoming bball season. Does anyone have an idea of the breakdown of games for this upcoming season, and the streaming options that are available for them? Will there be certain games that aren’t available to stream? Much appreciated

RE: Bill Self "growth stunter"
“The best players on this team are perimeter guys. That means interior guys are on the floor to play hard, grab rebounds and dunk lobs. That’s it. They get few or no post touches because that’s not the strength of this team. Last night, Big Dave got going because he was pursuing every rebound. That has to continue. He has to understand that most of his offense will come from putbacks, so he better get on the glass on both ends. Same for Mitch. Same for whoever else gets minutes at the 5.“

RE: Colorado game Canceled game thread
@wissox Lol! The things we sacrifice for a healthy marriage, eh?…. Here’s to hoping you ride it out with not too much discomfort. You’ll be back to your fighting weight in no time. Merry Christmas!

RE: Colorado game Canceled game thread
@approxinfinity This is the last I’ll comment on the matter, because it’s obvious we’re on opposite sides, and neither anything you or I say, is going to move either of us off our position… Our pediatrician, who shared that she herself and her husband are vaccinated and also won’t be vaxxing they’re kids, said to us that there is no long term data on how the vaccine will react with our bodies. And since young children will recover at a 99.9% clip, if they do catch Covid, why would we subject our young children to something that we don’t know or not, if there are long term effects. My 5 year old is still growing and developing, who’s to say that the vaccine might not stunt that growth and/or development? Only time will tell, but I’m not using my 2 young kids as guinea pigs, just cause Fauci and Biden say it’s my moral obligation. Fauci has changed his position so many times, he could field a whole baseball team. Who knows where or what he’ll prance out as truth in a few weeks. No thank you.

RE: Colorado game Canceled game thread
@wissox I’m highly skeptical of this, with all due respect. If masks were truly that effective, how to explain how Omnicron is spreading the most rapidly in the NE (NY primarily), where they have some of the strictest mask laws in the country… And by the way, I’m fully vaccinated, with my booster scheduled. Wife, same. 18 yr. old vaccinated. 17 yr. old, scheduled. I will not be vaccinating my young children **on the advice of my pediatrician **. I’m pro vaccination. I also think masks work, to a degree. But I don’t believe it’s my right to tell you what to do with your body. “My body, my choice “, right? Isn’t that the liberals battle cry? And I’m also a realist. I’m not going to freak out every time there is a Covid spike. Because Covid is here to stay. We can’t eliminate it (at least now), and there is no way humanly possible to prevent all people from getting it. No matter how much you beat your chest, and foam at the mouth… We have to learn how to manage it because it’s not going away anytime soon.

RE: Colorado game Canceled game thread
Guys/Gals, This is insane talk. The Omnicron variant, is highly contagious, but is far less deadly than the original strain. We’re going to get this strain, most likely, and it’s due primarily to it being the winter season, so people are indoors much more than spring/summer. The vaccinated are still catching this strain, but are much less affected by the symptoms. We should all be welcoming getting this strain, so we can get it over with, have immunity for the rest of the season, and move on. The tragedy, is the people calling the shots, are treating this like the original strain, and locking people down, for what amounts to not much more than a severe cold. If we’re supposed to trust the science, why are we not doing that as it pertains to our decision making. Look at the data, it’s all there.

RE: I didn't cuss once!
I agree here. Change it up. It’s painfully obvious that Dave is not a traditional, back to the basket, post player. So stop trying to force the issue. He’s got a pretty good motor, he’s strong and athletic (although WEAK around the rim), is a pretty good weak-side shot blocker, and is a good FT shooter.
Those are all complimentary traits, and not meant to be a focal point.
