    • Self's Comments on Diallo Situation

      http://espn.go.com/ncb/story/_/id/14190304/kansas-jayhawks-coach-bill-self-critical-ncaa-handling-cheick-diallo-eligibility

This is crazy… The NCAA hasn’t even been to Our Savior and KU has been 6 times. They even invited the NCAA to come along!

Now they are still waiting on something the NCAA promised in SEPTEMBER!

KU has done a great job in keeping the NCAA in check through this, but the NCAA is playing more “investigator than collaborator” as Zenger put it.

In the article, they reference a 6 page letter from Zenger to the NCAA that ESPN has, but I don’t see it anywhere. Hopefully they will release it soon.

@drgnslayr That was one that i struggled with too… Danny was awesome, but Wilt was just unstoppable.

From a career perspective I think Vaughn has to be on the list too. I mean the guy was THE point guard on some of KU’s best all time teams

@Texas-Hawk-10 I’ve traveled back and forth from China for work a lot in the last 6 years (almost 2 times per year) and the worse part is coming home. It usually takes me a good week to get back on a decent sleep schedule. Some trips are worse than others especially if you can’t sleep on planes.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I’ve seen some posters on other sites compare Diallo to McKay from ISU. I think it will be fun to watch those two go at it twice or maybe 3 times this year.

I completely agree that Diallo needs to learn his angles in the post. I think if he really works at it he can probably get 2 or 3 buckets just off of sealing and getting a quick entry pass from the wing. A big part of his game too will be his quickness. He should be quicker than most of the 5s that will be guarding him. so i quick drop step as the pass is coming could be his go to move

I have a hard time arguing against any of these, but the only other guy I could think of that should be on this list is Jo Jo White and I’m not sure who I would take off the list… maybe gooden?

@BeddieKU23 I think that our inside players as a whole are good enough to get us to the final four. It will be Self’s job to figure out who is on and who is off given the night. I can see Jamari having a couple of double digit scoring games with his improved outside shot and decent driving ability he showed last year.

Out biggest problem will be back to the basket scoring. Thats where I hope Bragg and Mickelson can help out because Perry just has troubles scoring with his back to the basket over taller guys and good help defenders

I had the same thought. He seemed to be doing really well in Russia, his homeland, and making good money.

It would be pretty cool to see him be an important piece to a championship run… again!

    • RE: Diallo is Cleared! Now what?

I think that Perry Ellis just got a lot better. Now he is not our only threat in the post so teams wont be able to double team him as much and they can’t stick their footer on him at all times any more either.

People have said it all over this chat board, but having a rim protector with the new rules is crucial. With the dribble drive playing a larger roll and the new fouls, our guards should be able to relax a bit more knowing that they have a protector.

    • RE: Diallo- First Impression

      @HighEliteMajor

I think that Jamari is going to play the roll of Christian Moody: hustle, rebound, try to play defense and then step aside when the younger guys are ready.

I disagree with you on the rotation though. I think that Hunter should start with Diallo and Bragg coming next. I don’t remember the specific stats, but Diallo and Bragg together looked GREAT. Yes we did come out with a 15-1 run after the half, but when those two played together the energy was unbelievable. They really looked great together.

Hunter may have impressed me the most tonight. He hustled, went after rebounds and blocked shots. The main reason I have him stepping in to start with Ellis is i believe they complement each other the best. Hunter has some offense, can guard the best big and has some passing ability. Like someone said before, its not who starts, but who gets the most minutes. And I think the most minutes in the post (like most people on here) should go to Perry, Diallo, Bragg, Hunter, Traylor, Lucas in that order.

@Kcmatt7 the hypocrisy is with the NCAA Tournament. There is no way that the NCAA is going to punish all of these teams to the point of them missing the tourney… they would miss out on a TON of revenue with the best programs in the country not going to the tournament.

    • RE: Sleeping On Kansas Basketball In 2015-16 Would Be A Huge Mistake

@drgnslayr IF I remember correctly Cliff was supposed to have a great motor too… I look at Cheick and Cliff as on the same level especially since they are higher ranked recruits that were defensive specialists. Here are the reports on Cheick and Cliff respectively:

Cheick (from ESPN): Diallo has a terrific motor. He competes at a high level on both ends of the floor. He rebounds on both ends with two hands at rim level. He runs the floor with extra long strides where he finishes with power. Diallo simply attacks the opponent. He is capable of defending both post positions as well. Diallo is a finisher, rebounder and top notch shot blocker and defender. Call him an eraser or a rim protector, either is appropriate.

Cliff (from ESPN): Alexander is a big mobile post that is a terror on the glass. He snatches everything that comes off in his area with force and is not afraid to put his body on his opponent. He also was active and blocked shots in and out of his area. Alexander did a great job with screen and roll situations as well. He set wide screens and rolled hard to the rim which he dunked when he received the pocket pass. He also showed a nice hook over his left shoulder. Alexander ran the floor and played with good urgency at all times.

Both of these guys had strong motors, great rebounders, can defend, but have a limited offensive game. This is just one outlet (one that I don’t always agree with).

My point is this, I am not relying on Cheick to be the answer to all of our interior problems, I am relying on Cheick, Bragg, (improved) Mickelson, (improved) Perry, Landon and Mari to fix our problems from last year.

@drgnslayr That is a really good point to make about his size vs motor. Because when he was on the floor he would go hard until he got tired… then he would be sluggish.

Dont get me wrong, i am VERY excited to see Cheick dress in the crimson and blue. I just hope that he is not a one and done for both KU and Cheick’s sake. He won’t be an impact guy right away in the NBA, but I am probably wrong on that too.

@BeddieKU23 he really is. I mean he’s listed at 6’8" and I don’t think he lives up to that. He’s such a tweener. But he’s so athletic and works hard and will give us a good 10 minutes per game off the bench. For his future, if he truly worked hard all year at being a better dribbler, passer, shooter and overall bball IQ, I could see him getting some more minutes later in the year especially when we face a few of the smaller line ups

    • RE: Interesting, NEW Name surfaced for 2016

@drgnslayr I think Mitch Lightfoot looks pretty good. looks like he’s agressive and has some good basics of post moves. I am not impressed with Jayce Johnson. Not sure how tall he is (looks 6’9) but he has a hard time dunking and it looks like he just throws the ball up. Doesn’t look like that great of an athlete to me. Schnider Herard has a good looking stroke, but is it just me or does it seem like he has troubles palming the ball? Every dunk they showed was either a two hander or he had to gather the ball and swing it up for a one handed slam.

    • RE: Best game I have seen in years

This game is #1b for me, right up there with the Mizzou game. The part that I loved about the Mizzou game was how Self had Trob guarding Matt Pressey (who had no offensive game at the 3 spot) and couldn’t even play Withey because of Kim English playing the 4. I thought it was a brilliant piece of coaching.

I loved this game because of the toughness EVERYONE showed. Selden got over foul trouble and a dumb tech, Perry showed us all why we love him with his post moves over height, Landon/Mari showed us why they play, Mason guarded Heild better than anyone has and Devonte hit key shots.

The one thing I will question Self on is this: why play the 4-low with a tired Mason driving the ball at the end of the 1st and 2nd OT? We had plenty of time to get the ball to Perry in the post instead and he was automatic against Lattin and Spangler.

    • RE: Lagerald vs Svi

@jayhawkeyes I honestly don’t think we will see Lucas and Udoka on the floor together very much if not at all. These are two really good players that do not complement each other very well. Neither is very mobile (guarding a quick 4, having to switch a screen or defend screen and roll) and neither is that great of a passer (I haven’t seen Udoka play very much yet). Both of them could create their own shots down low, rebound and set a heck of a screen. But I just don’t see them playing together very often

The document I saw EJ on was the balance sheet . “as of December 2015”. (I’m not an accountant) but that is after he left KU, could that be a remaining balance for over 2 years? I doubt it, they would have written it off as a “bad loan” right?

    • RE: NCAA Corruption Investigation - Kansas Identified?

@Kcmatt7 The NCAA should ONLY be a governing body and a regulator to the P5. But right now they are making money off of all these athletes. That’s the problem. If any of these schools are punished, then it will have a negative effect on the NCAA bottom line.

I am 100% behind the P5 leaving the NCAA in the dust, but I do think there would need to be a separate governing body (that does not profit from the schools) to regulate.
