RE: Basketball Food Adventures
We like to cook fish. Normally crappie or redfish but tomorrow will be parmeson baked flounder.

RE: KENTUCKY - NOT A MARIST YEAR BUT, meh...
@wrwlumpy I root against UK every time they play simply because I want to see KU take over the lead for all times wins during Bill’s tenure as coach. Sooner the better in my opinion! Roy helped KU on the road to overtaking UNC for second place and Bill finished it off. Last time I checked, it is a realistic goal for KU (and Bill) if UK continues these up one year and down the next type seasons and the Jayhawks keep humming along like a relatively well oiled machine.

RE: BAYLOR BEARS - SATURDAY 3 P.M. CBS
@nuleafjhawk I told my wife when we started dating that I had two addictions. The first was KU basketball and the second was fishing. Luckily she and my children enjoy KU basketball and eating fish! We live in the southeast corner of the state (Pittsburg) so I routinely fish the local strip pits, ponds and lakes. I also fish the rivers and lakes in Missouri and Oklahoma since we are five miles from MO and fifteen miles from OK. My friends tease me and call me the “fish whisperer”. My parents started going to Galveston and Port A when I was in grade school since we had relatives in Houston. I have been going to Port A to fish at least twice a year for the last decade… Primarily I wade fish in Corpus Christi bay but occasionally go north to Rockport or south to the land cut. During the summer I try to go offshore at least once a trip. Next time you are in Port A, go into the Crazy Cajun. The KU flag hanging on the south wall was put up by my kids and I twelve years ago. My instagram account is henrymenghini. There are lots of good fish photos on there. If we are ever in the same area at the same time, I would definitely try to fish with you if at all possible. My next fishing trip to Port A will be some time in the first two weeks of February.

@nuleafjhawk Next time you see a Whataburger stop and try the A-1 burger. I go to Port Aransas at least twice a year to fish and when we get up early I still order it for breakfast!

RE: BAYLOR BEARS - SATURDAY 3 P.M. CBS
I have driven through Waco on I-35 dozens of times, but never stopped to do anything other than to eat at Whataburger. Very good medical school from what I have been told. Seem to recall from a Whataburger in store display that Waco is the birthplace of Dr. Pepper.

RE: Tourism ideas for my wife and I in Lawrence
@Lulufulu I moved to Lawrence in 1982 and left in 1991. The early to mid-eighties were very tolerant and still hippyish times in Lawrence. Of course it helped that the drinking age was 18. Quite an eye opening experience for a young man from a much smaller community and I enjoyed every second! The hill on home football game days was one huge party and so much fun. My group of friends brought a keg to every game.

RE: Tourism ideas for my wife and I in Lawrence
@VailHawk When the Oread Hotel was built, the Crossing and original Yellow Sub buildings were razed unfortunately. The Crossing is the only bar I have ever been to where you could have a beer with a goat!
-
RE: Tourism ideas for my wife and I in Lawrence
There is still a Yellow Sub a block east of the 23rd and Iowa intersection on the north side of the road. I do miss the eclectic and eccentric atmosphere of the original next to the Crossing. RIP.

I still enjoy visiting the Natural History Museum on campus. The Wheel or Louise’s West for pregame libations. Johnny’s for post-game reflection. Yellow Sub for either lunch or dinner is mandatory.

RE: Nice write about Diallo from Rustin Dodd
@Bill-Self There we go with another reference to UA involvement in the program. Did Coach wear the pull over with the prominently placed UA logo intentionally during the post game show as some sort of acknowledgement or pay back for help in bringing Cheick into the program? I wish I knew if it was just a coincidence or signified something more.

Pondering the meaning of UA display
Very interesting tidbit from watching the post game show. Self wore an UA pull over. The UA logo was prominently displayed on the left shoulder. He also appeared to intentionally draw attention to the logo by scratching his shoulder directly on the logo. Previously I thought coach always wore Adidas gear for the post game interview. But then maybe I just have not paid enough attention.

RE: PITTSBURG STATE GORILLAS
PSU’s BB coach, Kevin Muff, played for KSU and battled down low against Danny Manning.

RE: PITTSBURG STATE GORILLAS
There is no Pittsburgh in Kansas, but there is a Pittsburg. The most famous recent Pittsburg State alum is a second year receiver for the Arizona Cardinals named John Brown. Brannen Greene’s father also played basketball for the Gorillas.

RE: Poor SMU
Appeal, coach this season then retire. Then let Jank clean up the mess.

RE: Which Coach Other Than Self Could Have Gone .500, or Better, Down the Stretch with the Team Self Had Left Last Season?
I apologize for veering off the main topic, but I hope you will find this interesting. I asked the players last Friday what other college coach they would like to play for if they could no longer play for Coach Self. Wayne, Frank, Jamari and Landen all said Hoiberg. Devonte said Huggins with Hoiberg second.

RE: I GUESS DEVONTE IS WELL?
Not a farmer although I do have a degree in environmental studies from KU and am addicted to fishing! Devonte says his knee is fine and looking forward to the start of practice. The players are all off now and most of them were heading home this weekend. Coach has given them almost a month off now due to WUG. Landen said it is the longest break the players has been given in his four years. They all mentioned that it has been very difficult to adjust to the time difference going over and back still. Interestingly enough, Frank seemed to be the biggest “hit” with the campers. Came away very impressed with his drive and desire. I know there has been some debate about his professional BB prospects but I would not bet against this young man.

RE: I GUESS DEVONTE IS WELL?
It was at the All Area Fantasy Camp in Frontenac, KS. Had dinner with Devonte, Framk, Wayne, Jamari and Landen last night. Great group of kids who make me proud to be a Jayhawk.
